The place was crowded with tourists (Surprise, surprise) but it doesn't matter. The staff were helpful and proactive at cutting the line down. After much deliberation, I ended up picking some Butter Fudge up just for the beautiful silver and blue tin. I can't wait to drop back in to collect more darling tins, foreign candies and souveneirs for home.

But imagine my absolute surprise when I spied a shelf stocked with American candy, cereals, and snacks...including my favorite: Cheetos. Not even 48 hour prior, I was telling my husband that I would go to obscene lengths to have a bag of Cheetos, so strong was my craving for the vile snack food. The only bad point is that you can spend more of your pennies than you expected here sometimes, but it is generally a great place to be and a diamond in Kingston.

I don't even understand how these people get licence to run such shops. Honestly I am still shaken for the kind of attitude I just witnessed. I run an office and often get sweets for colleagues. Buttered brazils, strawberry Fizz Wizzes, humbugs of various stripes, liquorice is all its awful guises (I hated it) including the packet of sherbert with a liquorice stick inside like a small firework. Those flying-saucer sherbets in different art-deco colours; aniseeed balls, pear drops, barley sugar, sarsparilla, sherbert lemons. A treasure trove. Interestingly, most are still made in Scotland and the North of England. It's a labour of love by the owner, Judith Burnett, to keep each jar stocked. How lucky we are that she does.

The last decade when going back I've never found good ones in a pick n mix or in the bags at the grocery stores, I was only able to find cheaper versions and then I stumbled across Hardy's in London! Wow they have the most delicious Bon Bon's in every flavor you can possibly think of! I needed them to last a while so I bought a pre mixed bag for around 3 pound that had toffee, apple, blue berry, vimto, lemon, strawberry...you name the flavor and they had it! The other cool thing about this shop for UK residents is that they have all the "American" candy along with Flips pretzels, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and other goodies. To me I obviously have this stuff everyday but my local friend was just as excited about the American candy and treats as I was with the bon bon's, we definitely walked out with a sugar high!
