Ahoy! There's a new…read moreconfectioner in (Greenwich) town ... and it's Mr Simms. Not a brand new enterprise as there are other Mr Simms' dotted around the country and not the largest (I have popped in to one in Windsor that was larger) but none-the-less a quality addition to the Greenwich scene. Only small really, you'll enter the shop and the centre of the room is a vacant space for perusing and queueing while the two side walls and behind the counter are lined floor to ceiling with chocolate, fudge, boiled sweets, lollies, marshmallows - really every variety of sweet you can think of and too many differing flavours of each to mention here. I picked up 2 Wham bars (they had 4 flavours in all), a bag of Raspberry and Kiwi boiled sweets and other such delights. I decided against a giant bubblegum flavoured cable and rued that decision later. As great a satisfaction as it is to buy bags of sugary wonderment for taste alone there was also a great feeling of nostalgia as I slowly made my way around gazing at all that was on show, being as wide-eyed as I'd ever been and just imagining how they all tasted. The only disappointment coming from the realisation that I can't take it all with me and I must choose a small selection and be content with that. Which I was, dentists aren't cheap y'know. With disappointment seen off, it was time to make some choices. The whole time I was in there, the soundtrack to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was playing. Mr Simms gets my vote over other similar sweet havens, like Cyber Candy, as they provide a superior quality of sweet and are also cheaper. A lot cheaper. I Love Mr Simms. Can't wait until my next visit. I'll be making enquiries about some sort of loyalty card scheme with them. Will update if the news is positive. FYSR, Ian

For a tiny place, we were here a while because there's a lot to choose from. Counter service was courteous and prices aren't anything to complain about either. Will be back and recommended to satisfy your sweet tooth.

When I was younger and lived in the UK I absolutely loved Bon Bon's, especially the lemon ones…read more Now I didn't just like any Bon Bon's I enjoyed the traditional ones, none of the imitation brands. The last decade when going back I've never found good ones in a pick n mix or in the bags at the grocery stores, I was only able to find cheaper versions and then I stumbled across Hardy's in London! Wow they have the most delicious Bon Bon's in every flavor you can possibly think of! I needed them to last a while so I bought a pre mixed bag for around 3 pound that had toffee, apple, blue berry, vimto, lemon, strawberry...you name the flavor and they had it! The other cool thing about this shop for UK residents is that they have all the "American" candy along with Flips pretzels, peanut butter, marshmallow fluff and other goodies. To me I obviously have this stuff everyday but my local friend was just as excited about the American candy and treats as I was with the bon bon's, we definitely walked out with a sugar high!

Like the original branch in Hove, this Sweet Boutique is beautifully designed with floor to ceiling glass and plastic jars filled with colourful and tempting treats. There's cherry lips, rhubarb and custards and sherbert dips for nostalgics and all kinds of new and delicious flavours for sweet addicts. They also sell cute accessories for bakers and yummy mummies from recipe cards and skull and cross bone cupcake cases to retro playing cards.

Many sweet shops advertise their candies as gift ideas, but Sweet Boutique is really the only sweet…read moreshop / gift store. The packaged candy is a mixture of retro and modern; golden nugget gum, candy 'sticks' and that dipping powder with the sugar wand were some of the old favourites. The pick and mix items are all behind the counter, meaning the shopkeeper has to pour things out for you individually. This isn't my favourite method of picking candy. I like a tiny bit of a bunch of things, and I'd feel guilty about making someone open so many different containers...However, I suppose the set up is their idea. The gift items include mixed candies in stylish bundles, along with several candy-shaped non-edible items: magnets, candles, erasers etc that look like cakes and donuts. My friend and I went with some almond nougat and sugar mice to help us shop until dinner time.
