I placed two orders of a little over $10 each so barely paid anything for the items above. Well, if you don't count the cost of the DashPass or the CC I have. That's right, girl math! I think the groceries from DM are fine. It's kinda like grocery outlet, Sometimes you gotta look at the expiration date. But you normally have a week or two to consume anything with an expiration date. Unless it's specified otherwise on the item before you order. The produce is typically in pretty good condition. Tho I found this location offered less variety than the one in Concord. Parking was easy as it's in a shopping plaza. It was pouring that night, so hard to see. When I told him the order was under my wife's name, he got upset because I didn't have a screenshot of the order. Instead of just explaining the policy, he got frustrated, stormed off, and sat at a desk in the back while I was calling my wife to confirm the order. Thankfully another employee stepped in and helped me out. The Filipino guy who helped was really friendly and professional and got everything taken care of. I understand that employees may need to verify orders, but the way it was handled was unnecessary and not very professional. He seems to have some anger issues. Hoping this was just a one-off experience because we've otherwise had good experiences here.

And that's the thing: their locations are strategic to a fault. Molly Stone's consistently positions itself where it can be the only traditional grocery option. San Bruno, Sausalito--places where if you search "grocery store near me," Molly Stone's is often the only real answer. They don't compete head-to-head with Nugget, Safeway, or Trader Joe's the way those stores compete with each other. They quietly monopolize convenience. From a business standpoint? Smart. From a consumer standpoint? Complicated. I did some research after a recent visit, and the pricing model is what really made things click. There was an article describing a product sold to Nugget, Trader Joe's, Safeway, and Molly Stone's at the same wholesale cost--around $7. Safeway sold it for ~$12. Nugget for ~$14. Molly Stone's? $22. That's not a premium--it's a statement. At that margin, the value proposition has to be airtight: exceptional staffing, elevated quality, and an experience that clearly justifies the price.
