It has come to my attention that my star rating from way back in 2007 may be a bit outmoded. True, but you have to understand that the rating system then was not as defined as it is today. Regardless, in rereading my review, I still stand by what I originally wrote; although, I would probably not use the word shabby and use vintage instead. It's still a good haircut place and the guys working are quite skilled at what they're doing. Moreover, Amazon Barber is a great neighborhood business and stands as one of the remaining businesses that has survived the ongoing gentrification of Crocker Amazon. Support local. read more

Was driving around on a Monday looking to get a hair cut. Was pleased to find Amazon Barber open. Walked in and was seated right away. Doc asked what I wanted done and I replied High and Tight. Very pleased with this old school Barber. Will be back for sure. Doc provides a cell number to text to and I will book a Monday in the near future for sure. read more

Love this place. My barber was out of town and I needed an emergency cut as I was heading out on vacation. Vladimir took me in without hassle and gave me a clean ass fade. I've been going to him since. The shop itself is coo, genuine people and dope ass barbers. Highly recommend read more

best barbershop. i usually call in advance to book an appointment, i recommend Angel who's been my barber for 4 years and has never given me a bad haircut! But every barber there has talent and they can all joke around as well which is a huge plus! read more

My dad brought me to this barbershop when I was a kid. I actually got my first haircut there and continued going to this barber shop until I got drafted into the Army in 1967. At the time, there were 4 guys. Bennie and Joe were my favorites as they were older guys I can see the other two guys, but for the life of me, I cannot remember their names. We grew up in the Amazon District and there were such great stores and shops there. Angelo's House of Music was a gathering place for SF musicians during the hippie days. But the Amazon Barbershop kept up with the times, going from haircuts with clippers to razor cuts to sissor cuts. I know it's all new guys there, but last time I was home, I drove by and was so happy to see that the shop is still there. Manly, first class. read more

It was a decent/alright haircut but for how much I spent the barber went really quickly. Most barbers I've had take longer and put more effort in read more

I've gotten my hair cut here a few times just based off the convenience. I will say Angel is my preferred barber at this shop if you decide to go there. The reasons I give this less stars is they are very apprehensive on using straight razors which is a clear indication of skill level. I've gotten my hair cut all over the US and know how to spot a real barber and the amateurs. I'm mostly not even dissatisfied with the skill level because that is what it is. But the service they handle clients is what urged me to leave this review. I literally called to get a haircut and I ask if angel is available, the guy on the phone says, "No, he'll be in tomorrow" I went to ask what time and he just hung up the phone. Then I call back and he was just extremely unhelpful in me setting an appointment for tomorrow after he had already hung up on me. To me as a customer this just shows they don't want my business which has inclined me to never get a haircut here again. Angel I hope you get the pleasure of reading this because you always helped me get my haircut on time but your team has just eliminated one of your clients. And I always tip you generously. Thank you fellow colleagues for that one. Step up your customer service skills as a business. Very sloppy. read more

I have never written a bad review in my life because I do not want to negatively impact a business, even though I have had bad experiences with some businesses before. But this was the absolute worst haircut I have ever had in my life. I have been looking for a new barber and thought I would try this place. I asked for a low fade and, a trim on top, and to just trim the hair that goes over my forehead right over my eyebrows. I was sat where I couldn't see the mirror. So, I had no idea what was going with the haircut. But I thought I would just trust the barber. Biggest mistake ever. He ended up giving me a SKIN FADE halfway to my scalp. And then worst of all he cut the hair that covers my forehead, that I said to just trim so that it reaches right above the eyebrows, in a straight line in the middle of my forehead Literally an EDGAR haircut. Absolutely no care. I could have just a grabbed a pair of scissors and done that with one snip. It's so bad I'll have to wear a hat for at least three weeks. I'll be lucky to have a job with how bad this haircut is. I absolutely feel bad having to write this, and absolutely wish I didn't. Especially since because of this review being descriptive, he will probably know who wrote this. But I have no mal intentions, just wanting to share what I experienced to prevent someone else from getting the absolute worst haircut ever. Paid 45$ to get a haircut where I could have just grabbed some clippers, shave the bottom part of my hair, gar a ruler line up and line up the scissors with the same result. If you are employed or looking for a new barber, you should avoid in all honesty. read more

Interesting I agree with everything in Dan B. 's review but I give them 4 stars instead of two. This is the epitome of an old school barber shop. All my boys have had their first haircut there and I've been going there since I moved into the neighborhood. It's a neighborhood institution. A great place for a basic cut, they even try to deal with my oldest son's desire to keep his hair longish. They are open from 7am 4pm weekdays, Saturdays are super busy and to be avoided if at all possible. If you must come in for a Saturday cut, come in early... read more

My regular barber has been having issues being closed when they were supposed to be open and I was long overdue for a haircut so I found this place on Yelp. Showed up at 11am on a Tuesday and there was just one guy in the chair so I only had to wait about 10 min. My haircut was done quickly and perfectly. This will be my new go to spot for future trims! read more

I didn't know exactly what Hairstyle I was looking for or what would look good on me until angel gave me a a cut and trimmed my hair to the perfect length. There are very few good old-fashioned barber shops left in San Francisco. This is one of them. The guys that cut hair there , Marty and Val, are barbers, plain and simple. They're not hair stylists. I was looking for a barber shop after the one I had gone to for years closed due to increasing rents, when I first walked in this shop. The hair cuts are good, the neighborhood is full of characters and the prices are fair. If you looking for an old school barber shop, try this place out. read more

I've been going to Amazon barbershop getting cuts from Val for about 3 years. Its cool seeing the friendship and bonds that you see other customers have with their barber. I've met a few people here that have been getting their cut here since they were kids. Highly recommend this place. read more

Amazon Barbershop - Barbers Near Me - San Francisco, California

I drive past this place often and it looks like an old school barber which I prefer. I decided to stop in on my lunch break. Luckily there was no wait and my haircut was started immediately. A 4 on top with a 2 on the sides seems like a pretty basic haircut for a barber. I walked out with all sorts of lengths and the back seems to be cut with a #1 and the side cowlick appears to have been avoided. Pretty sure I could have done a better job myself. read more

Good old fashioned barbershop. your typical neighborhood barbershop with all the talk between customers and barber. Marty has done a good when I got a cut from him. Val sucked and always left holes on my hair not cool. I tried him twice and same results and seems he is always in a hurry. does look like a community of people gather here and it cracks me up when they check out ever lady that passes by. read more

How did this place get all those stars? Perhaps the worst haircut I've ever gotten. The barber didn't do as I asked, he left uneven steps on the sides and didn't let me see what he had done before I got put of the chair. He seemed in a hurry even though there was nobody waiting. read more

I made an appointment with a Barber named Chad. Based off the customer he had just before me, I knew I was gonna walk out of here feeling good. I got a little style in my hair, so it's not just a buzz fade. This dude pulled out the scissors, the razor blade, and the rest. I was like okay... I'm about to find out. He listened to exactly what I was asking for, and even better made sure it was cool after it was done. Then he asks me if I wanted to line-up my goatee, usually I decline, but then he showed me some pics of his work, so I went for it. All said it done, he threw on some pomade and was explaining the product to me. Since I'm a regular user of pomade, I was interested. So far I'm loving my new cut, the pomade is great! I won't tell you what it is, but if you want to try a really good pomade, gotta see Chad! Definitely recommend Chad. All the other barbers are cool too. read more

Just moved to the neighborhood from the Mission. The hardest thing for a dude go find in a new neighborhood is a good barber. On a trip to the hardware store, I see this old school looking shop. A few days later, I walked out with a cheap, solid haircut. Perfect, just perfect. read more

Nice to have a barber that does walk-ins now a days and not have to wait 2 days for an appointment. Clean fade. About $22 a cut.

Lousy rushed haircut and generally garbage attitude. Seemed really annoyed that I DARED to interrupt their day by asking for a haircut. Thank god the neighborhood his changing and janky ghetto places like this will be gone soon. "Hey what are those big craters in the wall?" "Bullet holes." read more

Great place. go and see DOC or walk in. They have good barbers and they make you feel welcomed.

If you are ever in the area, this is the pace to get your fade or any haircut that you may be looking to sport. I have been going here for some months now and I am pleased with the results that I always come away with, I come out looking like a new man every time, straight "rags to riches." The ambiance is that of an old time barbershop with a neighborhood flare, lots of memorabilia and a big screen tv that has always got something popping on it. The barbers in there are always down to chop it up and are always playing music. Great place to get cut up! Be sure to check them out if you are ever in that neck of the woods! read more

I just got done wit my first session wit the homie Vic. He took care of me as s walk in and I really appreciate that. I got an fade wit a hard part that I been looking for in a min. These guys know wtf they are doing. I'll keep going here while I live in the city. read more

These guys can only do tapers. That's about it. He forgot to cut pieces of hair and I noticed it when I looked in a mirror at Walgreens. Went back to have it cut. He was very nice about fixing it. I went home and took a shower and found that the back of my head hadn't been cut correctly either. Now I'll have to go to work looking like an idiot and I'll have to spend more money getting the back cut because this barber has no idea how to cut hair. read more

I really want to find a barbar that cuts hair the way I want them. I told the dude one thing and he gave me something completely different. I told him since it looks nothing like the way I wanted it just cut it short but keep it natural don't do lineup. He gave me a freaking line up and refused to trim my beard cause he had to go pick up somebody. I was nice enough to give him a too.. read more

I agree w/ Marcos J.. I don't know who cut me, but it may have been Val. He seemed like he was in a hurry to get back to his web surfing as there were no other customers in the shop. Not a complicated cut, 0 on the sides and trim the top....both ended up uneven. I'll give it a 2nd chance w/ Marty next time. $18 + $2 tip = $20 for 3 weeks of bad hair. If I got a better fade, I would have given it 2$, not 3$ read more

loved this place when i lived in sf very old school they have a kramer portrait in the back and every time a fine morra passed by they would stop what they were doing and look out the window with drool down marty and val's chin, also when the firetruck passed by geneva marty would put his firefighter hat and salute them!!!! classic stuff read more
