It has come to my attention that my star rating from way back in 2007 may be a bit outmoded. True, but you have to understand that the rating system then was not as defined as it is today. Regardless, in rereading my review, I still stand by what I originally wrote; although, I would probably not use the word shabby and use vintage instead. My dad brought me to this barbershop when I was a kid. I actually got my first haircut there and continued going to this barber shop until I got drafted into the Army in 1967. At the time, there were 4 guys. Bennie and Joe were my favorites as they were older guys I can see the other two guys, but for the life of me, I cannot remember their names. We grew up in the Amazon District and there were such great stores and shops there. Angelo's House of Music was a gathering place for SF musicians during the hippie days. But the Amazon Barbershop kept up with the times, going from haircuts with clippers to razor cuts to sissor cuts. I have never written a bad review in my life because I do not want to negatively impact a business, even though I have had bad experiences with some businesses before. But this was the absolute worst haircut I have ever had in my life. I have been looking for a new barber and thought I would try this place. I asked for a low fade and, a trim on top, and to just trim the hair that goes over my forehead right over my eyebrows. I was sat where I couldn't see the mirror. So, I had no idea what was going with the haircut. But I thought I would just trust the barber. Biggest mistake ever. He ended up giving me a SKIN FADE halfway to my scalp. And then worst of all he cut the hair that covers my forehead, that I said to just trim so that it reaches right above the eyebrows, in a straight line in the middle of my forehead Literally an EDGAR haircut. Absolutely no care. I could have just a grabbed a pair of scissors and done that with one snip. It's so bad I'll have to wear a hat for at least three weeks. I'll be lucky to have a job with how bad this haircut is. I absolutely feel bad having to write this, and absolutely wish I didn't. Especially since because of this review being descriptive, he will probably know who wrote this. But I have no mal intentions, just wanting to share what I experienced to prevent someone else from getting the absolute worst haircut ever. Paid 45$ to get a haircut where I could have just grabbed some clippers, shave the bottom part of my hair, gar a ruler line up and line up the scissors with the same result. I've gotten my hair cut here a few times just based off the convenience. I will say Angel is my preferred barber at this shop if you decide to go there. The reasons I give this less stars is they are very apprehensive on using straight razors which is a clear indication of skill level. I've gotten my hair cut all over the US and know how to spot a real barber and the amateurs. I'm mostly not even dissatisfied with the skill level because that is what it is. But the service they handle clients is what urged me to leave this review. I literally called to get a haircut and I ask if angel is available, the guy on the phone says, "No, he'll be in tomorrow" I went to ask what time and he just hung up the phone. Then I call back and he was just extremely unhelpful in me setting an appointment for tomorrow after he had already hung up on me. To me as a customer this just shows they don't want my business which has inclined me to never get a haircut here again. Angel I hope you get the pleasure of reading this because you always helped me get my haircut on time but your team has just eliminated one of your clients. And I always tip you generously. My regular barber has been having issues being closed when they were supposed to be open and I was long overdue for a haircut so I found this place on Yelp. Showed up at 11am on a Tuesday and there was just one guy in the chair so I only had to wait about 10 min. My haircut was done quickly and perfectly. Interesting I agree with everything in Dan B. 's review but I give them 4 stars instead of two. This is the epitome of an old school barber shop. All my boys have had their first haircut there and I've been going there since I moved into the neighborhood. It's a neighborhood institution. A great place for a basic cut, they even try to deal with my oldest son's desire to keep his hair longish. I drive past this place often and it looks like an old school barber which I prefer. I decided to stop in on my lunch break. Luckily there was no wait and my haircut was started immediately. A 4 on top with a 2 on the sides seems like a pretty basic haircut for a barber. I made an appointment with a Barber named Chad. Based off the customer he had just before me, I knew I was gonna walk out of here feeling good. I got a little style in my hair, so it's not just a buzz fade. This dude pulled out the scissors, the razor blade, and the rest. I was like okay... I'm about to find out. He listened to exactly what I was asking for, and even better made sure it was cool after it was done. Then he asks me if I wanted to line-up my goatee, usually I decline, but then he showed me some pics of his work, so I went for it. All said it done, he threw on some pomade and was explaining the product to me. Since I'm a regular user of pomade, I was interested. So far I'm loving my new cut, the pomade is great! I won't tell you what it is, but if you want to try a really good pomade, gotta see Chad! Definitely recommend Chad. All the other barbers are cool too. read more

If you are ever in the area, this is the pace to get your fade or any haircut that you may be looking to sport. I have been going here for some months now and I am pleased with the results that I always come away with, I come out looking like a new man every time, straight "rags to riches." The ambiance is that of an old time barbershop with a neighborhood flare, lots of memorabilia and a big screen tv that has always got something popping on it. These guys can only do tapers. That's about it. He forgot to cut pieces of hair and I noticed it when I looked in a mirror at Walgreens. Went back to have it cut. He was very nice about fixing it. I went home and took a shower and found that the back of my head hadn't been cut correctly either.
