Abbey Park is a mostly walled park first opened to the public in 1882. The river Soar flows through the park and is full of life - ducks, swans etc. The ruins of Cavendish House can be seen which burnt down in the 1600s. Activities for families - so much space for games, football, cricket etc. There is a large play area for kids of all ages which includes a large paddling pool(which was dry last time I went). There is a small gauge railway there and you can have a ride on the back of one for not much money. There is also a small petting zoo including rabbits, goats and an aviary. Abbey Park has very extensive grounds and you can spend a good deal time here whatever the weather. It's close to the city centre and also B&Q Depot and an ideal place to swing into for a quick trip or a long afternoon walk. There are two car parks as I remember- one is free and one is a council run and therefore expensive money-making pay and display.

Watford needs and deserves a nice park and Cassiobury hits the spot. As well as the plethora of…read morefootball pitches (none seem that big mind), tennis courts, netball courts and cafes there is a really cute miniature railway that the kids will love. The path around the park will take you through some nicer parts and out to the Grand Union Canal where you can watch various people struggle with the locks. If you a right at the toe path you can also wander the 1km or so down to The Grove Hotel which is worth checking out. Every year the park is also host to Watford's Firework display which is free and of a generally high standard.

In the summer the paddling pools are open and the children can paddle in the pools or splash in the fountains. This area is well staffed an supervised by qualified people. The cafe in this area offers a selection of hot and cold food and drinks at reasonable prices. At the far side of the park is a shallow river/ stream that is teaming with fish. This is simply perfect for children's first fishing experience. There is a miniature train and a traditional play ground with swings and slides. It's a great place to take a picnic. I feel safe going on my own with my young children. The parking and pools are free with a small charge for the train.

I spent a lot of time here when I was a kid, so I tend to get warm and fuzzy about the place…read more The park is massive, especially when you factor in the farm area and the adjoining Valley Country Park. Its proximity to the motorway and sprawl of West Brom make the park even more impressive. There is a large kids play area, with some really cool rides and climbing frames. It gets really busy on sunny days. If you want something quieter, you can take a walk around the large duck pond or fishing lakes. There is an outdoor gym for grown ups, as well as a climbing wall and basketball courts. There is an impressive entrance gate and war memorial located towards the top of the park. The Sandwell Community Show is held on the nearby showground every August Bank Holiday. It is always a blast, full of good, clean family fun.

There is a huge lake, which is nice to walk round on a lovely summer's day, and plenty of green space so that you don't feel all crammed in like sardines. I kick a ball round here with a couple of friends once a month, and it's one of the nicest places in West Brom. Kids also have a large play area with swings and facilities suited for young small children. A great event every year is the bonfire display during guy forks night. It's super for families, free to get in, and lots of entertainment and food on the fields surrounding areas. I'd recommend visiting to anyone, if you can't make the fireworks and bonfire spectacular, then a stroll or footie game here is well worth it.

This is a really great place to go on a sunny day, or just a dry day if we can't manage any sun…read more It has three different play areas, one for older children with plenty of climbing at the top of the hill, a play area for little ones connected to a bit for slightly older children that has a big climbing frame and swings. It also has a lovely lake to take a short walk round. It's a brilliant place for bikes and scooters too. The paths are all suitable for pushchairs. The cafe is situated at the entrance to the park and has clean toilet facilities as well as stocking a wide range of the usual cafe snacks and ice creams. The food is pretty good if you forget to take a picnic. There's a lovely play and exploring area right outside the cafe near the picnic tables so you can sit and have a drink while keeping an eye on the children. There's also a spot from which you can feed the ducks on the lake nearby. If your children need even more to explore, there is a small area of woodland to run round on one side of the lake as well. It's a great way to spend a day. Plus, you can venture further afield if you really want to on sign posted walks.

The mocha I had was nice and hot - served by friendly staff. Me and a friend sat out on the balcony over looking the lake which was nice. There are four maintained walks around the Arrow Valley park which I hope to return to do in the near future when it starts to warm up again.
