The Firehouse Theatre - Billy Elliot: The Musical

The Firehouse Theatre

Farmer's Branch

I had a great first time experience in the theater for Mama Mia! Before being invited to attend…read morewith friends, I didn't know this little gem existed. First, a firehouse converted into a theater? Fun! Second, a lively, comical production performed by local actors/musicians? Yes! A well communicated process for accessing bathrooms and concessions? Score Added bonus of comfy soft blankets offered to take to your seat? Warm experience! If you have an opportunity to visit this little theater, I would jump at it. It really is a little affordable gem for weekend theater distractions!

I've lived in Farmers Branch for 2 years & drive by this place every day. Finally decided to come…read morefor opening night of Sweeney Todd since I'd never seen the story before. The parking is a bit of a challenge - the closest spots are all no parking so you basically have to park across the street (but it all says no after hours parking & those businesses close at 10). The lobby is cute & they even have merch & snacks and there was even a themed drink for the show (which was tasty). The theater isn't very big so all the seats are good seats. They're not kidding about it getting cold in the theater - I'm glad I wore long sleeves and brought a jacket & scarf - and they have a whole shelf of blankets when you walk in. So the show started on time & things were going great - I was really enjoying the show - but then someone on the cast was injured backstage & the show, quite literally, could not go on ("break a leg" was not lucky at the theater). They offered everyone tickets to another show so that was nice. I sincerely hope the beggar woman is ok! So it was a more drama filled night than I anticipated but I enjoyed the show! I was a little concerned about parking because if the show had finished it may have been easily 10:30 before it was over so I might park somewhere else next time. While I won't come back for another showing of Sweeney Todd, I will come back for another show. It was a great little local date night!

Stone Cottage Theatre - Overlooking the theater.

Came here on Valentines day to see the play "Slave Letters: The Lives of Slaves in Their Own Words"…read more If you haven't checked out this performance, you ought to check it out! The performance by the cast is worthy of a Tony award! This review is more about the Stone Cottage Theater which is part of the Addison Conference and Theater Center. It is a small building that is one of Addison's historic structures that has been renovated and I believe can hold up-to 55 people. The check-in lady was really friendly and offered us free chocolate and roses for valentines. You can also buy snacks and drinks at the check-in desk before the show or during intermission. The Good: ------------- Very intimate setting, small crowd, lighting effects are great for a small theater production. There is a parking lot close by if you get early. You can also park by the street nearby if the main parking lot is full. Can do Better: ------------------- The plastic cushion-less seats are a back breaker for those long theatrical performances. My butt and back were hurting after being seated for almost 2 hours watching the above reference play. They may need to get cushioned seats! Also, the signage pointing to this small cottage may need to be a little bigger. Wife and I were not sure where the Stone Cottage building was since there are two theaters in the same location. There is small sign by a rock, but this can be overlooked.

This is my favorite theater in the Dallas area! It is located near the Water Tower Theater, but it…read moreliterally is a stone cottage! I really like the intimate setting where you can almost touch the performers! Drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are available for whatever price you are willing to donate. Tonight we saw A Bur-Less-Q Nutcracker. It was hilarious! The jokes are always funny and a bit racy. Unfortunately, I was not able to get a pickle-on-a-stick (they ran out before they got to me). This spot is definitely worth coming to over and over!
