My review, in fairness, will consist of good and bad.
The facility is a newer facility and is one of the cleanest nursing homes I've been in.
My loved one first entered ACSCare for rehab and was in poor health. Her therapies consisted of occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech & memory care. All of the therapists, those full time and those who filled in were great.
The care then moved from rehab to long term care. Some of the nurses and techs were extraordinary and you could tell they were committed to the needs of their residents. Others are not as committed. However, you probably get this anywhere you go. BUT, the facility lost both social workers in December and hired two new ones. Could never catch one of them for find out why/when our loved one would begin restorative care, be seen by the doctor, and have a plan of care meeting, all of which were to begin after 30 days. Actually plan of care meeting was supposed to be two weeks after going long term care. Five weeks later I caught Jessica. Six weeks later still nothing.
Our experiences with administration left a lot of room for improvement. Every room has a sign at the door that says, "Welcome to Amarillo Center for Skilled Care. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the administrator, Todd Gudgell, 24/7 at 806-517-9234." Don't hold your breath for a call back from Todd. He NEVER returned my call.
Then there is Jennifer, the Director of Nursing, with whom none of us had a pleasant experience with. Our very first impression of her was that she did not like dealing with families, especially those she thought were going to be more involved with their loved one's stay. She says she is direct. No, she is rude, abrupt and abrasive.
The interactions with the front offices, particularly Michelle, were mixed. She ranged from caring to inconvenienced, and never ever returned a phone call. You would have to physically go into the facility and show up at her door, which sometimes took more than one trip because her door might be closed.
Many times I would go in and try to catch someone with social services, director of nursing, assistant director of nursing, or administration with a question and no one would be there, the door would be closed, or be told they would check on something and get back to me. I would ask if I needed to leave my number, they would say they had it in the file, never a call. read more
