The service was good. However, they sold a Sauvignon Blanc that was only 30% Sauvignon Blanc, and 70% of another, more intense, varietal that had been aged in wood barrels. Obviously a different taste than expected. I ordered the wok salmon, the chef depended way too much on some version of soy sauce. I couldn't eat all the food I had ordered, I plan to take the rest for dinner back at my hotel, so I asked for take away box. They had no take away containers, they had run out the day before. They didn't offer a few items from the menu, but we were able to get the mussels, artichoke pasta and ink noodles. Our unanimous favorite were the mussels. There was a delicious curry flavor. Great find just out of the old town walls along the Rio Guadalquivir in Cordoba. The restaurant offers a few vegan and many vegetarian dishes along with fish and others non-plant based items. We started with a glass of local red wine and also a bottle of very good simply tap water. On a side note, Cordoba has WONDERFUL tasting tap water which is a first for any Spain city we have travelled to in the past 7 months! Starter was an arugula salad with gorgonzola and pine nuts. The cheese was served warm and was very good. My husband chose the salmon served wrapped in banana leaves with vegetables all in a bamboo steam pot. The salmon was a very generous portion and he said it was very moist and delicious. I enjoyed my pasta with artichokes, truffle oil, arugula and pine nuts. The setting was very nice and so colorful. The tableware was beautiful. Our server was friendly and greeted us promptly and with a smile. Delicious meal! Came here on a Monday night around 9pm. One of the last seatings at dinner due to a busy lunch time and some items were not on the menu. It looked like they turned away some patrons even though there was seating available. Highlights: the Ox tail carpaccio was super. The duck was tough like Córdoba leather on this evening, but the owner/host took care of it/us. The fish was simmered in olive oil and served with a bit of couscous and vegetables. And I thought next to the Ox tail, the lamb skewers were tender and well prepared as well! I guess the lunch was busy, because the two desserts that looked the most unique/ interesting Pear tiramisu and their Amaltea special cake, we're both sold out. Maybe next time! read more

Moscas!!!! F-ing flies were dive bombing the whole lunch. Who lets that go on? Food could have been magnificent, but the flies! Decor was outstandingly late 60s early 70s I asked the waiter about the winged disease vectors and he shrugged and explained that being so close to the river there was nothing he could do. read more

One star experience at this restaurant. Came here today with my wife after a long day of walking seduced by the high Yelp star rating. Problem #1: First thing I noticed after walking in is about 15-20 flies (the insect) roaming around the eating area. Serving staff seems not to care that they are about to serve food with flies flying around. Problem #2: We we're hungry so we were willing to try to ignore the flies in the name of eating quick. My wife ordered the octopus and I the Iberian steak. The server quickly tells us they are out of both dishes. However, what he didn't notice is that I heard him take an order for the octopus for a nearby table 5secs ago!! When my wife asks: "what dishes do you have available?"...the server gave us a smirk and said "tell me what you want and I'll tell you if we have it". So on top of being out of food on the menu, I have to endure the server attitude when I'm trying to order. I was so mad we stood up and left the restaurant after the servers comment. Really the only reason to eat here is if you are looking to eat a meal surrounded by flies. read more

We walked in on a Saturday without reservations and got lucky as the last couple to get a table. Everyone else wasn't turned away and asked to make reservations for the following night. Tip: Make reservations!!! Food was phenomenal! Especially when we got tired of the usual Cordoba Morrocan restaurants so this place was a much needed food adventure. Each dish is unique and brings with it surprising flavors. We had the roasted aubergine salad which was incredibly fresh and flavorful. Hubby ordered the smoked cod which I ate half of. I had the tandoori lamb (which to be honest wasn't marinated in tandoori spices) but was perfectly seasoned and cooked. We really enjoyed our meal. The lamb is halal btw!!! Only down side was lack of service by the server who had this unnecessary air about him, like he was above waiting tables and rather be chit chatting with the lady behind the bar. If I'm ever in Cordoba, I would go back to try the other interesting dishes on the menu and hope the wait staff has been replaced by more gracious staff! read more

Preface: One of the previous reviews by an Asian reviewer mentioning racism is totally counter to our experience. My wife and I are Asian and felt very welcomed by the waitress at this restaurant on our two visits. Perhaps the reviewer's group failed to make a reservation and were put behind a party with a reservation. Or perhaps they were unlucky to encounter a grumpy waiter. Language and cultural differences can often make for misunderstandings. Review: After two weeks in Spain, we were ready for an alternative to tapas. We found this place for lunch and ate here two days in a row. The food is delicious, fresh, and imaginative with lots of choices for non-meat eating diners. Examples of dishes that we enjoyed include: Hummus with pita bread and purple salad, Green Winter Salad with celery, apples, and cranberries, Pasta with artichokes, arugula, and pine nuts, and Cus-cus with sauteed vegetables. The restaurant is located along the river, just past the Roman Bridge. The décor is bright, colorful, and tasteful. The young waitress was genuinely friendly and attentive and made us feel welcome. This was one of the best dining experiences in our 3 week trip to Spain. The only disappointment was that we were told they do not make their dishes for take out when we wanted to order one of their dishes to take back to the hotel with us. Very nice change from the regular touristy traps! Had a Gluten Free Menu and fresh, local and organic selection of fruits and vegetables! The waitress was quite helpful in describing and detailing the menu and once she heard of allergies, got us the full Gluten Free Menu as well. It's funny since I just read some more of their reviews and a previous Asian reviewer said they felt like they were discriminated against. The place is colorful and cute. The background music is not loud which makes it perfect for a dinner tranquilo. Windows are open to a street with not many cars, therefore calm. The food tastes very good (I recommend the fish tartar with avocado). The staff is nice and speaks English (rare in Spain!), they are using some organic ingredients and promote a circle of local producers who grow organic (rare in Spain too! I don't say it, the waitress says it). Racism is probably prevalent here. My group (Asian) walked in and requested a table and was told they can only seat half our party. After we agreed and decided to split up, they started setting the table and another party came in and they were seated by this restaurant. We never felt so looked down upon so we decided to go to another restaurant. Las piconeras which was down the alley was really tasty and they were really accommodating as well. If you have a big party, I would avoid this place or if you are of different descent so as to avoid preferential treatment. read more

Disgusting. Full of bugs!!! I showed the waitress all the bugs marching across our table onto our plates and she just shrugged and said that they are "close to the river." We asked for the check and said we could not eat or drink the food that by that point was crawling with small flies... and floating dead in the water and expensive wine. The waitress just gave us the check. No care that we were throwing away money on food and drink covered with bugs. There were hundreds of gnats clinging to the ceiling just above us. Be warned! They leave their doors and windows flung wide open to the swarming bugs without even screens while the surrounding restaurants have windows and doors sealed up against them. By the way, I went to this restaurant because I'm a vegetarian and read that they have a special veggie menu. Consuming a swarm of crawling and dead floating flies is not my idea of vegetarian cuisine. read more

an excellent find in Cordoba, not a town known for vegetarian restaurants. when we walked in, late in the evening of course, it was busy with only one waiter. we didnt have a great feeling about this but our waiter was efficient and fast, and we had our food without much of a wait. especially pleasing was the fact that i could eat vegan and my boyfriend could have whatever meaty thing he wanted that night. the food was delicious, artfully composed, and generously served. extra cute is all the mis-matched chinaware, serving vessels and dining ware. all in all a lovely little place, down along the river front in amazing cordoba. thank you all at amaltea! read more

Wow. Such a great healthy option for tapas. Amaltea is situated opposite the river in a tree lined street. Small. It elegant. We ordered anchovies with leeks in a tomato broth. Good but a bit salty. At first, I assumed that this was catered more towards the vegetarian market; however, I was pleasantly surprised to find that they have such flavourful and unusual (in the good way) non-veg options also. Absolutely fantastic, the whole experience, from the decor, atmosphere, friendly waitress, and the food which was fabulous, and unusual. A few more euros needed than the normal tapas bars but well worth it.
