Everything went well! The food, the drinks and the service! The service is outstanding! The manager is fantastic, he was on top of everything and nowadays that's something you don't see when you're dining out. He really made our girls night out special!! Truly a lovely place!! read more

Food delicious and traditional, service delicious excellent every one is very nice and very attentive

We had a reservation for 2. The location presents with a dimly lit, intimate ambience but kind of loud music. It's a little hard to carry a conversation without speaking loudly so everything you say will likely be heard by the tables surrounding you. Both the food and drink menu had a nice selection. Very cultural. They just opened and got part of our drink order incorrect but it was no big deal. Would likely return. read more

Amado - Cocktail menu - Mexican Near Me - Burlingame, California

I went to Amado on a Friday night! The food and cocktails were incredible and the ambience was fun and lively. Our favorites were the halibut ceviche and shrimp tacos. Will definitely be back! read more

Excellent food. Excellent vibes. Excellent service. Loved the ceviche and the shrimp tacos the most! Highly recommend!

We had a 5:15pm reservation on a Saturday during opening week at Amado's. There was a small hiccup when they couldn't find our reservation, but they were able to seat us right away so we moved on without much fuss. Service got going pretty quickly once we were seated. To start (shared): Baja-style fish taco + tuna tostadas     *    Fish taco: Perfectly battered (can't remember the fish, but it worked), and the tortilla tasted fresh and handmade. The aïoli needed a bit more salt and maybe some heat. Pico de gallo could've used more citrus.     *    Tostadas: Overall really good. Loved the salsa macha on the tuna. A little heavy on the aïoli and could've used a brighter citrus finish. Spoon ordered: Pescado zarandeado Beautifully cooked fish with a super flavorful adobo. Solid dish. That said, at $36, it really should come with rice and/or beans. Having to order rice on the side felt a little off. Fork ordered: Carnes en su jugo First time trying this, and wasn't expecting the broth situation, but it made sense once it hit the table. Good mix of textures and flavors. Portion was a bit small, didn't quite feel fully satisfied, but still enjoyable. Atmosphere & overall vibe: Lively and energetic, and it already feels like it's going to be a popular spot for group dinners or first dates. In the summer, opening the windows will give it that indoor-outdoor feel even without true outdoor seating. One downside, the hallway to the restrooms has a noticeable mildew smell, even though the restrooms themselves are nicely done. Final thoughts: Definitely worth trying, especially as they continue to refine the menu. We struggled to decide between 3 & 4 stars. We went with four stars because we have faith there's more to see from this place. read more

I hate leaving a bad Yelp review but this is actually my first and I want to share an honest experience. I was really excited to try this place especially for the mole. I've been craving a good one ever since visiting Mexico City and having unforgettable meals at Pujol so I came in with high hopes. We had a reservation at 7:30 PM and arrived a little early around 7:15 PM. We were seated in a small waiting area and decided to order drinks while we waited. What threw me off was that another couple who arrived after us got seated right away. I double checked with the hostess to make sure we weren't skipped and she initially thought we were on the waitlist even though we had a reservation. We were eventually seated at 7:27 PM at a high top table near the entrance even though there were several open tables closer to the main dining area near the kitchen. From there the pacing of the meal felt off. I actually have timestamps because I was confused by how long things were taking. Our starter came out at 7:37 PM but our drinks didn't arrive until 7:40 PM which felt backwards since drinks usually come first or at least with the starter. The biggest delay was the main. Our Mole Rosa with rice beans and tortillas didn't arrive until 8:03 PM which is over 35 minutes after we were seated. For a single entrée that felt like a long wait especially with no updates or check ins. We were just sitting there wondering if our order had been forgotten. What was also frustrating was that our server had recommended the mole as enough to share between us but when it arrived it only came with two tortillas. It didn't really feel like a shareable portion as described which made the long wait even more disappointing. Overall the service was disappointing. There were no check ins no acknowledgment of the delays and no apologies. I understand they may have just recently opened but it still felt like a miss especially when I was really looking forward to loving this place. read more

We ordered guacamole and chips, corn app, arrechera plate, stuffed chile, fish taco, shrimp taco and a large Cesar salad and for dessert the chocolate tamal and 3 alcoholic beverages and 2 jamaicas. The guacamole was one avocado mashed, no lime or kick. The corn app was yummy. The chips were not fried equally so some were dripping oil or chewy, others were crispy and thick like I enjoy them. The arrechera was tender, but had fatty chunks in it. The bean portion was microscopic and the 2 tortillas were not enough for the steak. The chile was good and tasty. The fish and shrimp tacos were ok, bland. The Cesar salad was big enough for two but the dressing was olive oil not Cesar dressing. The croutons were perfect, but it was missing the grated cheese. Maybe I got the green salad, but they called it a Cesar, which is what I ordered. To top it off we tried the chocolate tamal. It was the most disappointing. The plain and dry tamal with dry chocolate just didn't blend well. The masa &/or chocolate needed to be sweetened. For about $70 pp for Mexican food was not great! A lot of people work there but for a high end Mexican restaurant, they need better organization/training. Otherwise it feels and looks like a regular taqueria. It was very noisy from talking to background music that sounded like Mexican music but hard to make out. I won't be returning to amado's for Mexican food! read more

Great atmosphere and specialty drinks. Delicious chips and guacamole, and some of the dishes are great like the chicken enchiladas and the tuna tostada. looking forward to trying more of the menu, been back twice already read more

Had a great time going into Amado! My friends and I came in on a Thursday evening for my girlfriend's birthday and had a great time! After the World Cup final (7/19) headed to Burlingame Ave to wander and decide where to eat. I live in SF but was with friend who lives in the area. We sorta fell into this place. It was early and we were happy with drinks and apps so sat in the bar area. We shared guac (great chips), ceviche and a taco. Plus Margaritas. The guac and ceviche was excellent. The taco OK. Margaritas were excellent and they offer to spice them up a little. Service was excellent. Nice ambiance. If I lived in the neighborhood, this would be a frequent "go to" spot. read more

Review based on food. Which is obviously subjective. Me and my husband didn't like anything we tried. Margarita sucked. Caesar salad was too oily and lacked flavor. The steak taco was super fatty and tasteless. It just wasn't our vibe and we won't be back. read more

Love the food here! The best! Some of the best food I've had in Burlingame and the drinks are great also

It's a beautiful restaurant. I would come back for the ambiance. The food was nice. Small portions. I think it's a start, but maybe it's lacking variety. I'd come back in a few months to see if there are additions to the menu. I appreciate the sustainability and that it's a women-led restaurant. read more

Excellent food, great service, fun vibe. Guava Mojito, Fish Tacos and Enchiladas were big hits!

Five of us from our Spanish class had lunch there today and we loved every aspect. The servers were professional and complied with our request to speak Spanish with us. Such a beautiful restaurant and we enjoyed every dish: equites (corn Kernels with Mexican cheese), and empanadas - delicious. Our other dishes were the trio of small burritos, Swiss enchiladas , tacos and ahi tostadas. Definitely what is labeled under full plates, such as the enchiladas. are bigger portions. We then shared one order of delicious churros. We intend to return soon and feel we were treated exceptionally well by all staff. I was happy to find my favorite drink, carajillo, on their menu. Hard to find in the Bay Area. read more

The ambience was beautiful. The food was great. The drinks were like 8/10. My server was extremely attentive to us, well several servers actually. This was the first restaurant I've been to where there wasn't a lull between courses. I would give the service 10/10. Will definitely be back. read more

Rude manager, doesn't take feedback well, over priced food, semi-authentic, a few vegetarian options, service feels like they don't like working there, long faces, the 1 start for their margarita. Avoid overpriced "Mexican food" places like this, they just care about the esthetic not the quality and value of food items. read more

About time a Mexican restaurant that makes their own masa what a difference when this happens. I have seen it in L.A. But not like this in the Bay Area. Can't wait too try there menu on Friday especially there mole. Service was great. Luis at the bar was mixing the drinks like a pro. And Sway was amazing bringing us different styles of tacos. Loved the ones with the prawns and freshly made tortillas with their own unique textures. This restaurant has a great ambiance the bar is very well made! The DJ has the right combination. Mixing different styles that worked really well. Let's see what happens next! read more

Amado - Mexican Near Me - Burlingame, California

Three of us went on a Thursday night. We were seated 50 mins past our 7:30 reservation and it was another 15 mins before anyone filled our water glasses. We were eager to try the food so stayed. I was surprised no one offered us a drink or a basket of chips or something while we waited. The waitress helpfully flagged that the sauce on the chiles en Nogada was either room temperature (I would be fine with) or cold. I then ordered the "scallops cooked in lime juice." Because other seafood was labeled ceviche and the scallops were not, I was surprised when I got a small plate of cold scallops. I also didn't realize it was an appetizer. I was served this before my family had their entrees. My husband ordered the skirt steak which I was very tasty but the first few pieces looked surprisingly rare and my vegetarian daughter had the potato tacos which she said were good but spicy. The ambiance was very loud, but better once we were seated. If they iron out their system so they honor reservations it will be a big improvement. read more

Great food, great service, definitely a great add to the Burlingame community, highly recommend everyone try. read more

This is not authentic Mexican food. The food has very little flavor. When my husband and I go out to eat, we don't mind paying more for good-quality food, but this place is extremely overpriced for what you get. In my opinion, the owner does not seem to understand authentic Mexican cuisine. Unfortunately, I would rate this experience 0 out of 10. read more

Amazing food! Best @carne en su jugo"... it was delicious, the best flavor and good quantities.

Had an amazing birthday celebration at Amado last night. All of the food was amazing and flavorful. The Mangoneada was our hands down favorite, totally different from any other cocktail that you find out there, not sweet or juicy just pure taste. The carnitas tacos were amazing, must must order every visit. The Mole Rosa was also very unique and yummy. Ask for Juliana's table she was fabulous, all of her recommendations were incredible. Gabe was one of the co-owners and was so attentive and made sure we had an awesome celebration topped off with birthday sparklers. Will definitely come back. read more

Quick recap: Margarita ($16) good Guacamole, salsa and chips ($17) very good Cochinita Pibil ($34) good Enchiladas de mole ($38 !) very good, mole is excellent. Read more below if you're interested in the mole. Churros ($12) only fair, don't bother Service was very good, once the server noticed we were there. It took longer than it should have for anyone to acknowledge us, bring water, etc. But after that they were very attentive and friendly. Décor and ambiance are very nice. We dined on June 7. I have been hesitant to write a review. I know the restaurant is new and still trying to find their stride. But I thought others might want to know about the mole. What is offered on the menu is a plate of just mole, a sauce, for $28. I was surprised when I read the menu and specifically asked the server if there was a protein included. Mole is usually served with chicken or turkey, sometimes pork. He said no, just the sauce and tortillas. He said something to the effect that it is very rich and this is how "we" eat it in Mexico. I am Mexican, I have eaten at many restaurants in Mexico City and Oaxaca (and in many private homes). I have never seen a plate of just mole - no protein - on a menu. If this were a tasting menu like Pujol in Mexico City where a small serving of mole with a unique tortilla is one of the many courses, then yes. But this is not Pujol. (Note: In Mexico, there are enmoladas, which are basically "empty" enchiladas of mole served as a side dish, usually with carne asada. That is not what is on this menu.) The server said that I could order the Enchiladas Suizas ($28) with mole instead of the green sauce. He did not tell me that there would be an upcharge of $10 for the mole. So, for $38 I got two chicken enchiladas on a plate. Nothing else. I did ask for a side of fried plantains, which were good. The enchiladas were very good, but not worth $38. I will again say the mole was excellent, but you should know that if you order what is on the menu, you will get a plate of sauce and tortillas. read more

I was very excited to try Amado from the moment the signage went up, and renovations began on what was previously Flights, on the corner of Burlingame Ave and California. I was even more excited when I found out Amado was under the same ownership as Limon, a true staple in the Bay Area food scene. I've visited twice -- once on opening night and again two weeks later. The interior is beautiful, the staff is kind and attentive, and the drinks are some of the best in the area. We've tried a few different cocktails and loved every single one. Unfortunately, the food was a different story. Every dish I tried was disappointing in both portion size and flavor. To make matters worse, many of the menu descriptions are vague at best, making it difficult to know what you're actually getting or how much of it will arrive at the table. I also noticed the owner responding to reviews, mentioning that this is still a soft opening and that things are continuing to improve. This contradicts what the staff told me on my first visit -- they were clear that this was the final menu and that portions and prices would remain the same after the soft opening concluded. The potential is clearly there. I echo many of the other reviews here. I hope they can take this feedback and make the necessary changes to better meet their customers' expectations. read more

Was so anxious to try this new and long awaited restaurant that we came to the 2nd night of their soft opening. We sat at the bar and were incredibly pleased with the drinks, food and service. And of course the ambiance gets massive points as well. Love this new addition to Burlingame!!! read more

Yay for Burlingame that people have a hip spot to go. I won't be one of them. It didn't hit for me. Except for the enchiladas seizes, everything was lackluster. And for a fraction of that price, with a more generous portion, including rice and beans, maybe more tortillas, I could easily have gone to a taqueria and gotten just as, if not more, tasty version of the dish. The caesar was a gloppy mess, no sparkle or zing, barely anchovy in sight. The "empanadas" greasy and flat. The beet mole had terrific flavors but not served with anything, and a bird's eye portion, more focused on presentation that anything. The potato tacos were nothing I'd ever write home about. One bite of each dish was too many. I was excited to check it out, having read the hype, which is what it is. The place on a Saturday night was hopping, not a single seat empty. In the pouring rain, by 4:50, there was a massive line out the door, which they hadn't opened the door, not even for their bar or lounge area, which seemed inhospitable to me. But maybe that's just me being finicky. The customer service was on point, welcoming and friendly. The interior is stunning, warm and convivial, gorgeous lighting with a color drenched bar. There's parking lots in the area, which at peak times is tough. Portion sizes, are laughably tiny and prices absurdly inflated. read more

Beautiful decor. Good service. Appetizer was a bit dry and served with only two chips. I don't remember the name of the appetizer, but it was the first one on the list on the menu. Our server did bring a few more chips. The Carnitas taco and the fish taco were tasty, but nothing special. My dining partner did enjoy the red mole. We both ordered beers and they were cold and satisfying. read more

Amado - Cute bar - Mexican Near Me - Burlingame, California

I've been to Amado three times already just to give different dishes and drinks a try. As I've read through reviews and have also heard through people in the community they are very overpriced for the amount and quality of food you get. About 15-20% overpriced. Small portions with nice ceramic plates where they try to make the food look foofy by dressing up a regular run of the mill taco with a handmade tortilla. I was also excited for the tuna tostada because everyone knows that's the marquee dish from contramar in Mexico City. It looked beautiful but it wasn't as tasty and I think it was because the sauce wasn't as good. The fish wasn't also sliced properly. I also had the ribeye which was $80. They don't even charge me that at a prime steakhouse and it's nothing close to the quality. I want to continue to give Amado a chance to recoup itself because it's early and they just opened. What I would be really disappointed in is if the ownership and management didn't take this review seriously because I can tell you for a fact that this is the sentiment amongst the majority of the community in the area with the first impressions in the first few weeks. Ultimately my biggest fear from this review is management giving me another one of their canned/standard yelp reviews in response to this critical feedback because that just means they don't actually want to listen and improve. Anyways, I really hope for improvement and for ownership to take the feedback seriously because there's potential to be a great place with longevity. read more
