My previous tax consultant of 20 years passed away in late summer of 2025. I started searching for another tax consultant in Hawaii and I came across Wicklund Financial Services. All the reviews were positive and glowing. I also found other services too. I settled on trying Wicklund Financial Services and have never regretted it. I was concerned because my tax returns involve California, Maryland and Hawaii tax returns. I was concerned that they wouldn't be able to help me. Working with Reyn Wicklund, it was clear he understood how to prepare my tax return. He asked all the right questions and uploading all the documents via Tax Dome securely made things so much easier and faster. It also helped me to organize my tax documents as Tax Dome guides you through the various documents needed as well as give you the opportunity to add additional documents outside of the usual categories. By the way, I don't live in Hawaii. I live in Maryland, but that didn't matter. Reyn was able to complete my tax return remotely in a very timely manner without any problems. I will continue to use Wicklund Financial Services. Reyn is extremely knowledgeable, responds quickly to questions and concerns, keeps you updated on the progress of your tax return and is a pleasure to work with. After engaging with the CPA in a face to face setting early year and meting with one other…read morecompetitive CPA firm, we decided to move our business to Reyn Wicklund, even though the referral was to his father who started the business many years prior. Sadly he was no longer actively running it so we got the hand off to the kid. It started with some up front dialogue on getting started; jump on his portal for communications, uploads etc, add then to approving him for access banking, GET taxes and some other areas. All the typical new CPA working so fun prep steps. Then comes the long long gap of communications. To be exact zero replies on multiple emails requesting support and guidance on his own portal. When monthly GET was due we had no trust it was being handled, as it was not. So we paid it ourselves then emailing, reaching out but again Reyn decided to do it last minute without telling us. So now we've paid twice. Weeks months pass and more zero contact we are running our business not thinking about it which is sole purpose of this relationship from start as an owner my plate is overflowing with to do's, until another month the two and more lack of transparency lack of replies to countless messages about credit cards Quickbooks and so on. Terrible management. Now knee deep into mid year and no trust this guy has done a single thing for us (as had not) since double paying our GET. Sadly we are now back to square one and bookkeeping backed up so so much more. It's sad to feel this was so frustrated with a CPA. Especially of which was referred from a local and respected banker back in the day who knew his father personally. I suggest stay far from this CPA. Sometimes hard work and building a business from scratch you respect your clients you communicate with your valuable clients, not ignore them. Pick up a phone Reyn make a phone call. Reply when a letter has been written to you. Take responsibility. Well that's where entitlement comes in in our eyes with Reyn. He likely has no idea what it takes to build something from scratch and all the hard work to do so. If he did he'd know the importance of transparency and good communications.

I am so disappointed I feel like I should share my experience so others don't go through the same…read morestress working with this business. I reached out to schedule an appointment with Mark using his online scheduling portal because I was starting a small LLC at the middle to end of last year and needed help. He called me promptly at the scheduled time and had helpful advice so I let him know I would like to work together and that I would like to hire him to do my business/personal taxes. He sent me a link to establish my account in the client portal and I started to upload my documents. 1. Red flag number one. He told me that I need to file my GE tax in December and all I needed to do was to email his staff and they would take care of it. Sounded easy enough. The time comes and I email his staff with Mark cc'd well before the deadline. I never received any reply or confirmation. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they may be busy, so I waited a few days and then scheduled another phone appointment. Again, he called promptly, but did not have an explanation why my email was ignored. However, he was kind enough to file the taxes right on the phone. I thought all was well and taken care of. 2. Ref flag number two. I did have some questions about my business that he said he didn't know the answer to and recommended I ask other CPAs or HR Block for confirmation. That's reasonable and I appreciate the honesty in his response, however, I asked him how he would like me to close the loop and he said to email him. So I spent weeks seeking out other tax professional advice to make sure things will be filed correctly and I emailed him a few times with my findings to make sure we were on the same page and again, never received a reply so I eventually scheduled a phone appointment. 3. Red flag number three I had made a few separate phone appointments with him the rest of the year to make sure things were on track for taxes and I mentioned each time in the appointment scheduling that is what my visit was for. On several of those meetings, he called mostly on time but was met with the response "oh I guess I should have looked at your files ahead of time" which made me feel uncomfortable that he was not clear what was going on with my situation. He confirmed at the phone appointment he would be doing my taxes and I made sure to have everything uploaded promptly early 2024 well before the deadline. I emailed him again in January to make sure things were in order. This time I finally received a reply, but he made a mention about S Corp filing deadline that does not apply to my situation and really made me feel uneasy. He then stated that they were working on the taxes and that sometimes it takes a while so it's good I submitted everything early. He said not to worry and they would email me when everything was done. 4. Red flag number four I was planning to travel in March and so I scheduled one last phone appointment at the end of February to have him go through everything. Again, he made a comment on the phone that he had not looked at my documents and so most of the meeting was him going through what I had uploaded. He said everything seemed to be there. Looking back, he never asked me in detail about my business office or phone line or anything that could count as a deduction and because I was just starting out I honestly didn't even know about those things. I asked him to provide a specific timeline about my taxes and when I could expect them to be done and how he expect payment. He said they should be done the last week of March and that he will send an email when they are done to be picked up or a copy will be available on the portal. I asked him how I should follow up in case I don't receive a reply because at this point his phone appointments were completely booked through the end of April. He said, again, to email him. 5. Red flag number five Not unexpectedly, I did not receive any communication from his office at the end of March. I waited a few days out of courtesy and then emailed him asking for an update. To which I never received a reply. And still haven't. I ended up asking another company frantically to help me with my taxes to meet the deadline. I have always paid my taxes on time and this was a huge source of stress. The lack of communication is extremely frustrating and unprofessional. As a new business owner without prior experience with tax law, it's so important to have a reliable CPA. I felt that I did everything I could to be communicative and proactive but was met with poor to no responses, vague answers and no results. He never discussed clear timelines or expectations. Had I just left him at his word that things would be done, my taxes would never have been filed and I would have been hit with penalties. It's a shame because he is a nice guy, but I found this unacceptable.
