Many of you know my life revolves around sports and today was not any diffferent. Do any of you know the saying, "FEEELING YOU!!!!" Well this is how Vic "The Brick" Jacobs [see photo] starts his radio program... I met him at the Laker/Clipper game in the Lexus Club at Staples Center. He is a naturalist...all health...guro kind of guy. A great radio personality. When my bf told me that Vic "The Brick" Jacobs was the guy all dressed up in crazy Laker gear my reply was, "are you sure that is him?" Yes that was him and I have the photo to prove it. A year ago, KLAC was the most entertaining and informative LA sports show on the air. Some of the best shows on that station included the always controversial yet entertaining Jim Rome Show. An up and coming PMS show that combined both humor and opinion to make a truly unique show on the radio waves, unlike anything you'd ever heard. In the evenings JT The Brick and Tom Looney held down the fort and kept you laughing and up to date with any sports stories or score happening that evening. However, the best show on KLAC came at noon...the Loose Cannons with Steve Hartman/Mychal Thompson/and Vic the Brick. These guys literally made my day go by faster and I always looked forward to their show. They constantly talked about the Lakers, the Dodgers, and UCLA/USC. As a former Laker, Mychal Thompson brought a wealth of knowledge, experience, and wisdom to the show. Being a local sports anchor, Steve Hartman added an abundance of sports figures, a good amount of sanity, and a distinct air of pessimism to the show. And finally, the Loose Cannons would not be the Loose Cannons without Vic the Brick Jacobs. His love for the Lakers and Dodgers is unquestionable, and along with that passion he brought a great deal of enthusiasm, insanity, and comedy to the show. Truly, the Loose Cannons made traffic seem less congested and they always made me laugh and tune in as soon as it hit 12. So much for good memories.... Unfortunately, ESPN took over Lakers coverage and along with that change FOX Sports acquired KLAC. This has almost single-handedly destroyed the station and their fame. Since the beginning of this year, KLAC has undergone an atrocious remodeling. For starters, Petros Money are still on the air, but they almost purposely talk college football and pro football for 70% of the 4hrs they're on the air. I'm sure they were instructed to push football by the stations directors, but its become shameful how much time and how many segments they dedicate to football. The other 15% is dedicated to their weekly segments such as Lance Romance, Vance Finance, Wednesday Night Film Fight, etc. The other 15% is dedicated to the two most important teams in SoCal, the Dodgers and Lakers. Although I enjoy some parts of their show, I do not care for 3hrs of football talk. During the Dodgers NLCS run this year, they almost avoided talking about them. When the Lakers played their first game after winning a championship, they spent 3 segments talking college football before talking about the Lakers for a few minutes. I appreciate Petros and Money, but Fox Sports now controls their content, and that I have a problem with. They have also replaced JT the Brick and Tom Looney with Tony Bruno, a horrendous sports talk show host who's failed to attract a following or any listeners on multiple occasions in the past. Tony Bruno is not only unoriginal, but he is also boring and annoying. He shows very little enthusiasm for sports and he has no radio chemistry. Although JT and Looney are still with the station, they were moved to the 11PM-3AM slot, so its unfortunate that I nor many other people can listen to them. Its a shame!! Finally, the show formerly known as the Loose Cannons. As a shell of its former self, the new show is called Hartman and Myers and it is the complete opposite of the magic that Mychal, Steve, and Vic once shared. After Mychal Thompson left, Fox sports decided to exile Vic to the stations other location in Los Angeles, away from Hartman. Sadly, Vic has now been reduced to an update man, and his tone during the 2 minute updates he airs during an 8hr span indicate his frustration and sadness. To replace these giants of sports talk, Fox has inserted Chris Myers, a monotone and conservative talking head who banters on about NASCAR, pro football, and his circle of friends. He along with Steve Hartman now dedicate 75% of their show to college football, pro football, NASCAR, and politics. The other 20% are pointless interviews who aren't relevant in Southern California. Although one got used to Hartman after so many years, no one is there to counterbalance his pessimism, and we subjected to a horrendous show put on by 2 men who have absolutely no chemistry nor enthusiasm. Chris Myers is not a sports talk radio host, he is in essence a network talking head with limited sports knowledge and an antithesis of charisma. In summary, KLAC has become a radio station that while it still has some good shows: Petros and Money, Jim Rome, and Dan Patrick...however during the ride home and for most of the day the listener is forced to put up with people who have no charisma, very little talent, and an agenda to fulfill. I love DP Dan Patrick, The Loose Cannons, and Petros and Money (PMS) . I have stopped listening to FM radio ever since I started listening to AM 570 KLAC. I love this station because it is the official Lakers station and there is always a Laker interview. Listen to games here if you are driving on the road. This station has kept me from going crazy on my way home from work, stuck in LA traffic. read more

Pretty pathetic radio station. There's a reason they don't have any way to contact them on their website to give feedback. They probably got sick of hearing it. They have two boys, with the emotional maturity of 12-year-olds, hosting Dodger Talk, and the production quality makes me wonder if it really is a Jr. High School running the show. Inane interview questions... even on the radio, you can hear the player furrowing his brow at the stupidity of their comments during interviews. And I could barely hear the player because of the terrible sound quality. On a station with Dodgers advertising dollars. In Los Angeles. What's the excuse? And the attempts of certain characters to act like some sort of Jim Rome character are just embarrassing. Just this morning, even for the few moments I happened to have it on, I heard these turds Vassegh and Cates bellowing, "You don't have what it takes!!!" in response to a recording of Josh Reddick saying he didn't like getting booed when he was struggling at the plate his first month with the Dodgers last summer. Yeah, these small-time goober radio hosts shouting (not to his face, of course) to a man who's earned millions of dollars playing major league baseball since he was 22 years old, now a member of the American League champions, that he doesn't have what it takes. DAIR SO KEWL!~!!! ZOMG!! I WNAT TO BE LIKE VASSEGH AND CATES!!!! AM570 hasn't updated their website in YEARS either. And there's only about five pages on their site. It says Vin Scully is returning for 2014! Yay! I understand that terrestrial radio is the bottom of mass media, and the sideshow geeks on stations like AM570 are generally those who can't cut it anywhere else in media. But, it reflects poorly on the Dodgers, such a great organization, to be associated with such a particularly sad station. read more

After becoming a westcoast flagship for Fox, the station hasn't changed too much. Tony Bruno is out and J.T. and Looney are in, and they do just fine. Looney could have his own show and succeed, but he's a trooper to play sidekick to the star. But the Loose Cannons gave way to Steve Hartman and Fox's Chris Myers, who it seems was brought here to give the show a national name and to avail us of auto racing minutiae. The show was flat the first weeks, so they made Vic the Brick more involved, and he makes it better by the humor, but it still falls flat. The problem is Myers. He cannot finish a sentence. He is the only person I know who interrupts himself and should apologize mid sentence for doing so. We listeners, if we have any sense of public speaking, cringe. Hartman doesn't mention it, but I wish sometimes he'd ask him "What were you saying about so and so, you didn't finish the thought?" The auto racing news isn't better than talking baseball, is it, Fox? Please let Chris Myers go on assignment and do something else with the midday slot. KLAC has a lot of history for the city of Los Angles. It was the home of Chick Hearn and the Lakers but not for long. I would have given this station a five not that long ago but the recent changes have made me give a three for good reason. Before the changes occurred I had read on a Lakers forum that the Lakers radio broadcast would move to ESPN radio. I heard that and knew that somone from KLAC would have to leave and of course that meant that the infamous Loose Cannons would be broken up (Mychal Thompson). Little did I know how much things would change once KLAC became Foxsports radio, and here are the pro's and con's. Cons: Dear God what the hell did they do to the Loose Cannons? Are the stiff suits at Fox so damn clueless as to totally destroy their top show and replace it with a half ass show? Vic was gone and Mychal as well and instead we got Chris Myers and oh my what an utter bore. Chris Myers is a total broadcasting square with an awful monotone voice. He plays by the books and is a total bore since he does not have an aggressive bone in his body in comparison to the much vocal old Cannons. Why pick the complete antithesis as a replacement and hence killing the very point of why people listen to the damn show. Phil and Chris do have their moments but its mainly Phil that makes it interesting with his rants and I wait for a firm rebuttal but I am quickly reminded that Chris would not dare do such a thing. I love when Chris is absent since his replacement is usually far better then he is but for the most part I just change the dial and hope that the creeps who made this choice get fired. Pros: DP and Rome are still around which are overall ok but I am really surprised that PMS survived the switch. Once I found out about the switch I thought for sure PMS would go due to their antics and maybe even a bit too lefty for Fox but good for them that now everyone can hear them. PMS is now in my opinion the best show on KLAC, they are funny and the non-sports material is always hilarious so good for them on the new success! One more pro is that the garbage of a show Tony Bruno is gone and now replaced with something a little better. JT the Brick is ok in comparison to bunk Bruno so at least that is another positive but again this does not make up for the horrible decision of killing the Cannons. So yes, I still listen to KLAC but mainly for PMS and at times Rome and DP. I hope that they get rid of Myers and put someone that can at least can bring back the feel of the old Cannons or reinsert Vic and less Myers but I think thats doubtful. read more

Love, love, love the sports talk shows on this station, 570 KLAC AM. I pod cast when I cannot listen to PMS live. I wish San Francisco Sports Radio would take a lesson from these guys.
