This review is not written out of frustration, but to help other homeowners understand the importance of confirming inspections and reviewing venting whenever gas appliances are installed or modified. The City has advised us to file a formal consumer complaint regarding the unsafe and non-compliant conditions Always Plumbing left at our property. We don't expect perfection - we understand that mistakes can happen, and when they're minor, they're completely understandable. As tradespeople ourselves, we know how complex projects can be and remain willing to work collaboratively with others in the industry. However, when major mistakes occur that compromise safety, accountability and full resolution at the company's expense is the only fair and appropriate outcome. In October 2024, my husband and I hired Always Plumbing & Heating in Edmonton to install a garage heater. During the estimate, my husband explained to them that a previous home inspection had flagged a gas leak in the system. Regardless, the estimator stated the price would be lower than usual because the existing venting and piping could be reused. In September 2025, while reviewing the installation, I discovered that the reused B-vent in the garage attic was severely corroded, joined with duct tape, and not properly sealed at the roof flashing. The installation also lacked high-altitude derating, and the appliance connection was damaged due to the use of over-length screws compromising the gas-tight seal. I reported these findings to Always Plumbing on September 16, 2025. After several emails, the company confirmed it had pulled the permit for the job, which was still open and required inspection. This was the first time we were informed that homeowners were responsible for booking the inspection with the City. To resolve the matter fairly, I proposed that we cover the cost of new materials while Always Plumbing provided the labour at no charge, since the permit was already active and no additional cost to them would be incurred. Operations Manager Rob Shaw declined, initially offering a free furnace inspection instead. When I refused, he said he would "work out a great discount." and make sure "the best" guys would complete the remaining work. The estimate provided was $1,000 (including a $150 discount). For comparison, Weiss Johnson Mechanical gave us a verbal estimate of $1,000, which included the cost of pulling a new permit. This confirmed that Always Plumbing's "discount" offer was equivalent to the regular market rate. Following this, I contacted the City of Edmonton and requested a formal inspection under Always Plumbing's existing permit. The inspection failed, citing the following deficiencies (see attached report): - Rusted and disconnected B-vent requiring full replacement. - Damage to vent connection from screws. - Appliance not derated for altitude. The City inspector noted that these deficiencies should have been identified and corrected by the contractor at the time of installation. After receiving the inspection report, we requested that Always Plumbing correct the work at no cost, given that the issues were present and visible from the start. Instead, an employee emailed us accusing us of being "rude" and "trying to get something for free." Considering the verified safety deficiencies and the company's stated commitment to customer trust and workmanship, this response was disappointing. The General Manager, Lindsay Tait, responded professionally, and we had hoped to work with her toward a resolution; however, as of mid-October 2025, we have not received any written path forward or resolution. read more

Installation of a garage heater was fine, however it was not the brand or unit that I paid for. It appears to be a commercial unit that they installed in my home because I can't find any information on it. It broke almost immediately and I've been waiting for them to fix it for months - in which time they haven't called me and haven't returned my phone calls. I'm considering legal options. read more

I've been using Always Heating and Plumbing for several years now for our home and for 4 rental units. The techs have always been polite and professional and service has been excellent until now. We recently had some plumbing issues. The tub hotwater had severely reduced flow. Had the tech in to troubleshoot. In the end because the facet tap was apart I thought we should have the cartridge replaced (even though it didn't really need it). He trouble shooted some (with me assisting by turning on and off the mains water); I'm not sure exactly what he did so I contacted the main reception twice with the receptionist taking details and letting me know that he would get the message to call me back to verify what he actually did. Its been at least a week now with no response to either message. I refuse to call anymore. (If I had money for them, I'm sure they would have returned my call. In the end he wasnt able to do anything to help me and politely said goodbye with a $383 bill. When I call a plumber out, I expect them to be able to help and do things that I can't or don't have experience in, they are the professionals. It took me 30 min after to find out what I could do to try and sort out my problem (there were several ways that weren't attempted or mentioned). But I can't attempt them because I was trying to contact the plumber to see what he was able to determine. So the tech gets 3/5 stars (Chris) and Always... get 1/5 stars. Used these guys in the past to replace a sump pump and was a great experience. So I thought I'd give them repeat business by using them for Spring AC maintenance annually. Was scheduled for 8am and told they would call when they are on their way. Waited until 11am no call, no technician, absolutely nothing. It's funny how often they informed me of their "Diamond Club" package though.Called them to see what was going on and said I wasn't in their system for today even though they had sent me confirmation. Poor services, negligence and scammers. Warning to public. Do not call this company if you have emergencies because they will take big advantage of you. You will end up paying for things that are not broken or defectives. Or even replace something that can be easily repaired. Or probably both. 1. I called this company for furnace emergency. A guy from Ukraine showed up and said " i need to replace the igniter ". I was fine with that. After replacing it, the heating system did not work well. He came up with 3 more things that i had to replace in his opinion and gave me a quotation for $ 1700. Otherwise i needed to replace the furnace. I called another company and the new agent showed me how the igniter was not placed properly so the furnace could not function well. All he did, clean the pipes and reposition the igniter. Since then no more problem at all and everything is back to normal. I paid $ 475 for the second agent after i paid a similar number to this company. 2. The same Ukrainian guy has suggested to replace my water heater just because the igniter was not working. He claimed that the cost of fixing the igniter would be very close to the price of installing a new water heater. Later i realized that this was false and pure scam. Moreover, Nathan who came in later with another guy to take my old water heater out of my house, hit my front door wall and caused a damage. He promised to fix it. He never did. In summary, Poor experience. Bad services. Totally non trustful. Liars. Sell you stuff you do not need. Quote you for unnecessary things. Negligent. We had our garage heater installed last fall. When it was installed they asked us if we wanted to pay a monthly fee to have our HVAC, Water Heater, Garage Heater, etc inspected a two times a year. We said yes and started paying monthly. Evey time Always Plumbing would call us to set up an appointment, they would call us a few days before the appointment to tell us either the tech called in sick or they weren't available anymore. This happened to us 4 times. I will be canceling my monthly plan and won't be calling this company again, we will go with someone else from now on. read more

Needed an AC installed and since we had used them previously with no problem asked them to to do the installation. This time, NOT A PLEASANT EXPERIENCE AT ALL. The technicians had no clue about the codes for the electrical routing re heating ducts and proximity to gas lines. Their subcontractors were terrible to contact and just about as clueless. I had heard good things about this company so when my Hot Water tank went I called them. They messed up the technician's arrival time but that was no issue really-mistakes happen. The tech arrived and confirmed my tank had failed and also that the tank itself was under warranty. My only cost would be the labor to replace it. This is where things went south and I am disgusted with this company. The tech went and called the office to get a quote for just the labor. He came back and was actually apologetic-the quote was 1700 for labor only! 1700 to disconnect 2 copper lines, 1 gas line, and a vent tube and take it away. The unit is wide open, easily accessible, and at most the tech agreed, a 2-hour job. There was zero justification for this price but an attempt at extortion to try and take advantage of someone in a precarious situation. I shudder to think of the people they have robbed with this type of pricing-and that price did not include the 100 dollar service fee for diagnosis. I called around and got other quotes that were at their highest half of what Always wanted, and the lowest was 400. Ridiculous and disgusting example of greed at its finest. I have the quote, I am not mistaken nor exaggerating. Stay away from this company, the techs are great but the bosses/office are just plain thieves. To put in perspective the replacement only took 2 hours-if I had used Always at their rate they are billing two technicians out for 400 an hour. I doubt the techs make that. This is one of those companies that needs to go out of business. I contacted Always about a new gas line installation. They came to my house, everybody was smiles and shaking hands - I was told that a quotation would be a day or two away. And not a peep. I followed up 3 days later and they wouldn't even return my call. Wasted my personal time and put me a week behind on my construction. And I was dealing with the fellow that claimed to be the owner too. So think about this - if they won't honour a commitment and refuse to even return your calls, what happens if you pay these people to do work for you and something goes wrong? We called them out for no hot water. They were supposed to come at 1pm but showed up at 4 pm knowing they had no parts and would have to call a wholesale in and charge us more for that and charged us twice for after hours call . He told me a new tank wasn't available as it was special order then said he needed to replace pilot assembly so went to wholesale got that , called us hours later and said no it's the gas valve - charged us for both parts ! And both call out fees ,Also asked if we now wanted to replace tank or gas valve at 730 at night - miraculously a tank was now available when at 4pm he said he'd after order one .They misdiagnosed which part and charged us a small fortune- worst of all I still need a new tank and would have happily paid for that if he said a tank was available at the start! read more

My bathroom toilet had been noisy for over a month. I was in denial. I kept thinking the muffled groaning sound was from my neighbor's toilet downstairs. But alas, my day of reckoning came. I was rudely awakened at 4am from the annoying realization, that my toilet was the problem! I couldn't deny the sound any longer! The noise was NOT stopping! Frantically, I researched the closest plumbers that specifically mentioned toilets. This company was available 24/7. I considered calling them at 4am. But I procrastinated so long, I figured a few hours wouldn't make a difference. I turned the water off and silenced the toilet with a dinosaur comb and a hair tie. True story. I called them around 7am and made arrangements for 3:30-5pm. At around 10am, a lady called to tell me there had been a cancellation and could she send someone over. I was at work but my boyfriend was at home until noon. My cellphone is linked to the door buzzer at the condo. I explained that I could buzz the plumber in on my cell, but that I was actually at work and not at home. My boyfriend could let the plumber in and I could pay the bill over the phone. The lady noted this information and promptly sent someone over. The plumber, Brandon, had assessed the problem, called me to approve the service, bought the necessary part and finished installing by noon. After leaving my condo, he called for my credit card information. It took a while for him to call, but he apologized that he had gotten delayed. Soon after, I received an email with the invoice. Everything seemed pretty straightforward to me. The only downer is that this all came at a price. If you research online, you can self diagnose many toilet problems and how to fix them. However, at this point I was not interested in causing a domino effect of more issues. I wanted an expert to come deal with the problem. It cost $89 to have the problem assessed. I was informed of this fee when I first booked the appointment. The missing part, a flush valve, cost $117. Less expensive flush valves (as low as $8) can be found at home improvement stores. However, I did save some money. Before I contacted them, I had signed up online for their email and received a $50 off coupon for any service repair. If I remember correctly, I was told the minimum service had to cost over $150. In the end, I paid $163.80 including tax. I appreciated the fast, friendly, professional and efficient service. When I came home I was happy with the results. My toilet has been quiet ever since. If you have any plumbing issues, don't delay! Give this place a call! read more

Prince arrived and took an hour telling me why he could NOT install a hot water tank, why the taps were NOT fixable, why it might be TOO difficult to replace the humidifier and why he did NOT want to flush the on demand hot water heater. He arrived with a electronic clipboard and no tools, even though I was committed to repairs not just an estimate. My water has been turned off for 2 days because of a hot water tap leaking into the bathtub. The other items on the "to do list", was to get better value and have the call worthwhile. The desk agents were extremely polite and well focused but Prince was asked to leave because he did not want to work anyway. He took photos without my permission, had no tools, and never took his jacket off in one hour. Our BBB complaint (no response/contact from the company since May 19 and today is June 3, 2023.) Complaint Details The plumbing for our reno is not done and has a huge mistake and terrible concrete. Still need to install valves on the manifold at each outlet (5 in all) as per estimate. I've requested an appt with no response. Jessica said that manager Lindsey will call me back with a date and regarding compensation. The toilet pipe was installed underground and cemented in 2.5" further right along the wall than it was supposed to be as per the design provided to Craig (estimate) and Robert (technician). R's own center marks on the cement show his understanding of where it should have been. We were invoiced for the full job and paid it post city inspection before we realized. This mistake means that the 48" vanity and an 18" storage unit cannot fit along the wall beside the bath and toilet. We had to alter our design and give up the 18" unit and are so disappointed and would like a substantial refund. Cement work done so roughly that raised points will bust through flooring. It's uneven. When Chris came he said a grinder would have to be rented or pour gypcrete and that this is not in their scope. The concrete was not finished with a trowel but with a 2x4. We would like compensation for the material and labour needed to fix this. I contacted AP&H about these mistakes May 15 and I've followed up daily with no resolution. The lack of communication is very frustrating... Lindsey sent out Chris May 19 who addressed all other deficiencies not listed here. I had asked L to refund our last pmt of over $2216.55 until the job was finished/there was compensation. She said she could provide an idea of compensation by May 17. It's May 23 and I follow up daily. She emailed May 19 eve saying she was authorized to refund $770. She did not reply to my email or calls. I requested May 19 and 2 subsequent times that the owner call me. We were invoiced $12.95 for shop supplies - should not have been. Paid $5136.55. Quoted $5122.95. We feel sick over this and are so disappointed with the work and lack of communication to resolve this quickly. Currently we have an unfinished job and the company has $4300 and is not communicating. This is not right. I would not recommend this company. It's been a fairly challenging process with them the entire go of the project re scheduling and communication but this complete lack of communication when there's such a huge mistake and when they've taken our money is shocking. First appointment, beginning of fall, turned my furnace on for the first time since spring and my pilot light wouldn't stay lit. Called Always and they were there the next day. The part was a little pricey, but my furnace is old, so I wasn't really surprised. Their call-out rate is fair and all in all I was happy everything. Last night I realized that my furnace hadn't come on and the house was a little chilly. After looking at the thermostat, I noticed that the heat was supposed to be on but nothing was happening even though the pilot light was burning strong. So this morning, I called them about 9am and they were able to have a technician at my house around 11:30am. It was a quick and easy fix with an electrical connection and the entire appointment took less than half an hour! The service has been punctual, friendly, and professional both on the phone and at my home. There were a few glitches with my first appointment due to their new system, but now that they've got the bugs fixed, it works like a charm. Text messages that confirm your appointment and let you know your technician is on the way, as well as sending you a photo of your technician. I love this feature! it definitely makes me feel a little better about letting a stranger into my home. I will definitely be using them in the future, as well as recommending them to my friends and family. Their pricing has been fair, the staff are knowledgeable and very nice, and the service is speedy. read more

My hot water tank decided to call it quits on a Wednesday morning. Shortly thereafter, Always was booked and fitting me into their schedule for the following day. I received a call letting me know they were on their way and Brad arrived right at the scheduled time. He and his co-worker (sorry, I didn't catch his name) were efficient, professional and very pleasant. They had the old tank out and the new tank installed in about an hour. Do not be misled by their "Five-Star Customer Service" charade. It's all bluster. Three days of being given the runaround, very poor communication, shoddy contractor craftsmanship, damaged equipment installed, contractors showing up at the door without us being informed, appointment times changed and set without consulting or informing us - and we still do not have a shower we can use without leaks. Three contractor visits, one who took off his mask inside our house and left a mess in a different room than he was working in. Was told this would be a one day fix Absolutely unacceptable, unprofessional service. The worst I have experienced. Hope they answer our emails or phone message soon. UPDATE: They did respond to the emails. Too bad they didn't actually READ the emails. They tried to book book the wrong type of contractor - a plumber to fix an issue I raised with an improperly-sealed-wall. I had to stop them and correct them over the phone and ask them to please read the emails I sent. Now it is going to be 3+ more days until we have a shower that doesn't leak. Every single point of contact with this company has communicated poorly and dropped the ball in some way or another. Do not engage. read more

They installed 2 furnaces, a new AC unit, 2 low water toilet replacements, hot water heater, 2 humidifiers and 2 new thermostats. There was supposed to be a $400 rebate from the manufacturer (Carrier), but after signing the install completion 3 separate times, Always said the rebate never came. Apparently they get the rebate from Carrier and send it to me. After 8 calls they said they can't find anything about the rebate. The air conditioner worked initially, but the following year it wouldn't work. Always checked and found it lost all the a/c gas, so refilled it again. Worked for a couple days, then not needed that year. The following year, it wouldn't work again, so after 3 service calls, the technician say it was a burned o ring in the connection at the back of the outside unit. He said he didn't have the part, so would order the part from Calgary. I waited 4 weeks, called the service desk in Edmonton, she said she would check with the tech and get back to me. After waiting a week, still no callback so I called the service desk, and she said she would check with the tech AGAIN and get back to me. Still waiting. Oct 15, 2020 In the call from the service manager below, she mentioned she would look into things and let me know the next day. First of all, I think the excuse of Covid delaying products from the manufacturers is BS. Most companies are bending over backward to keep the business they have. Also, it has been about 2 months since they said they would get an O ring from Calgary, and nothing to date. Secondly, she said she would get back to me the next day. Well it's almost 2 weeks and still no answer when they will come out to finish the job. Also she said they would get after Carrier Manufacturing to check on my rebate. Nothing in 2 weeks. I think this company is completing their jobs because of their front line workers. As for the office staff, I have made no less than 10 calls to check on things, and they never get back to me. I don't think things will ever improve until Glen gets his ass in gear and takes control of the office staff. Get a process consultant in there and go through the processes. Get your staff trained, not just the cutesy little quips on answering the phone, but real training to teach people to respect the customer and get back to them one way or another within 24 hours. I know whereof I speak, because before I retired I was in charge of a large section of about 200 workers, with an annual budget of over 25 million. They were very professional and took the time to explain things in great detail, and even helped with an inproperly installed blower motor by another company working with the home builder. My second experience was the installation of a garburetor and it was exactly the same as the first. On time, polite, professional, and great work. We had our hot water tank fail in March and because of the good reviews that I read online, I chose to call Always Plumbing & Heating to help us. It was one of the two best-rated plumbing companies in all of Edmonton. Right from the phone call, I should have trusted my instincts and chose the other company. The person I spoke to sounded like a young careless out-sourced call center rep who sounded bored and not interested in helping me. She wouldn't talk loudly enough on the phone for me to hear her. Surprisingly it turned out that she was the service manager. I described my situation, explained that we have in-floor heating in our basement and a larger size hot water tank and needed help because it had sprung a leak underneath. She sent out their "top guy" in dealing with in-floor heating systems. He came out, had a quick look at our hot water tank and told us we needed a new one. It was at that point that we asked about tankless water heaters because we had heard they were good and would save us money and up the value of our home. He recommended a Navien 240E and assured us that it would do the job and provide both direct hot water to all our taps and in-floor heating to our basement floor. He gave us a rough price of about $5000 including installation and said that there's a $1000 rebate that we would receive for choosing an energy efficient alternative to a hot water tank. It was only a little more than just getting a hot water tank, so we were excited and chose to go with it. The regret came quickly as it took a lot longer than was promised to finish the job, and there were constant issues. We were told that we would need to run an outdoor exhaust vent for the new Navien and that it would be small and not an eyesore. That was a lie. It's huge and ugly and if we had known, we probably wouldn't have gone with a tankless heater at all. He kept forgetting things, like to reconnect the house grounding cables to the pipes, and he didn't have all the equipment he needed to finish the job properly so he had to come back something like four times to do everything as he was constantly promising he would do. He promised to look at other problems that we were mentioning, instead of just to tell us that it's not something their company does. He kept saying he did something a certain way, and that it wasn't the best way, but that he'd be back to correct it. He never came back. We had to call again and again. By the end we just wanted him gone and started to consider having another company come and finish the job for us properly. He left a bunch of plastic piping all over our driveway which we had to take away to dispose of ourselves. Thanks for that waste of time. It took the company several visits just to take away the faulty old hot water tank after repeated requests to complete the work that they had originally promised. After all was said and done, we can't run two showers at the same time because the Navien tankless heater can't handle the hot water demand. We also have a bathtub that does not provide hot water with the hot water tap on at full. We have to open the hot water tap halfway to get hot water. Otherwise it's lukewarm at full. We complained to the service manager. She sent someone else out to come and evaluate the problem, they made a suggestion of installing an interim hot water tank that wouldn't be too expensive and that it would effectively solve our problem. We would have been okay with spending a little more to do everything right. They came back with a quote for about $4000 for this interim hot water tank that "wouldn't be too expensive". We respectfully declined their offer and decided to just bite the bullet and keep our crappy new tankless hot water system. We now take turns taking showers in the morning, when before we used to use two showers simultaneously, it takes half as long to fill up our bath tub, and any natural gas savings that we may have had because of the tankless water heater is offset by the extra water that we need to run just to actually get hot water at the taps. We've said goodbye to washing our hands with hot water, because it takes over a full minute to get hot water at every tap in the house. To make matters worse, I've been trying to contact their customer service to inquire on the status of our $1000 Navien rebate refund and they simply refuse to return my emails. I'm ignored, which is an insult. It says to us that they've had enough dealing with us, that they're biting the bullet and are ignoring our complaints because there's nothing they can do, or that there's a problem with this particular customer somehow, when really we're the ones that were lied to, we paid over $5000 for a service that they promised would be to a certain quality and standard, and we were told that they would do everything to make us happy customers and that their online ratings and reviews were very important to them. My parents had a plumbing emergency the Friday before Christmas. After phoning four plumbing businesses and receiving no answer first thing in the morning they consulted Yelp and found Always. Scheduled an appointment at 1:30 - 3:30 PM. Went for lunch and returned home around 1:20 PM. Had a bunch of missed calls saying the technician came to my house already and left. My appointment was apparantly at 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM even though I had an email confirmation stating 1:30 - 3:30? Operator then tried to blame me for not being home? I called them out to fix a plumbing issue and after spending a bunch of money they didn't fix the problem, they would come back and look free of charge but any work would cost me. Love this company. Have used their services a few times over the past few years in different areas of my home. Their automated notification system texts well ahead of their estimated time of arrival. The two techs who I've had experience with were professional yet personable. My fav is Lloyd. Clearly outlines the scope of work and charges for same. I would rate zero stars if I could. Got a diamond club membership from them and was told I could cancel at anytime if I wasn't happy. Stayed with them for about six months and decided in September I no longer wanted the membership. Called to cancel and lady on phone said no problem and I didn't have to do anything and they would handle it. Called two weeks later to make sure it was cancelled and another lady tells me I need it in writing. Ok fair enough. I ask for the form to be sent by email so I could fill it out which I did and emailed back the same day. Called 4 days later and they said they still had not processed it and I would have to wait. I told them there was only 3 days left until it auto renewed and I would be out another months subscription. They told me they would check with their accounts people and call me back in 30 minutes. I waited an hour and a half and still no call so I called them again. If you're keeping track that's 4 phone calls to try and cancel. Lady tells me the accounts person has gone home now and they can't send me any confirmation other than something she could write saying I am no longer a member. Is it official and from their accounts department? No because she doesn't work in that department! Got off the phone and immediately cancelled my credit card. Pretty difficult to cancel if you ask me, Run away from these scammers and choose a more professional company that knows how to treat their customers with a little respect. read more
