There's a large area to walk around, and you're even able to feed the ducks, which my daughter absolutely loved. She had so much fun on the jungle gyms, slides, and all the playground features available. If you're visiting the Central Coast Zoo, I highly recommend taking the kids to the park afterward to burn off some energy. You can easily make it a full day--visit the zoo, head to the park, feed the ducks, and just immerse yourself in nature. It was a beautiful day and hands down the perfect after-zoo activity. Next time, I'll definitely remember to bring snacks!

The backdrop of the grand Atascadero City Hall add some visual gravitas to the expansive area. The main attractions are the roomy expanse of well-manicured lawns, the statuary and large fountain. I understand various events take place here throughout the year, though I'm not sure where everyone parks? It seems a great spot for a rose garden in at least one section, much as at the Santa Barbara Mission with its large garden in front. I wouldn't agree that there's nothing interesting here. In our era of increasingly cramped neighborhoods and living spaces, the park offers visual green space and a good sized area to stroll around the perimeter. Since it's mostly flat, it could a great spot for tossing a Frisbee or a ball. And the stately fountain is of the type you don't see in every city any longer.

This is the place people take their horrible dogs because they can't control them in public. It's too bad because my dog loves to play and go into the pool. We knew it was drizzling, but hadn't had a message that the party was called off, so we headed up to Templeton Park to meet up with the rest of the family. At first the park looked empty, then we spied a group gathered in the picturesque gazebo in the center of the park. We parked close and walked over to discover our far flung family gathered for a festive birthday. The gazebo! Of course! Great shelter from the rain and room for at least thirty people to mill around. The kids were lining up for pin the tail on Pikachu as we arrived, then they took turns battering a pinata till the candy cascaded to the cement. As the rain came and went, the kids could run in and out of the shelter while we grownups congregated on folding camp chairs or just stood around chatting. We welcomed the rain and were so happy we got to safely enjoy an outdoor event!
