I remembered Curie Elementary from a few years ago when my own son attended an autism socialization program after school, I really liked the campus and the area. I was really impressed with how Ms. Hunter setup her classroom and how the children had bonded to her, especially after finding out the short amount of time she's been there. She's very personable and funny, imo kids on the spectrum respond to that. It seems like a great school, and it might be a great fit for my cousin's son, the only thing that bothers me is that the teacher that would be a awesome fit for him won't be there in the fall, she got laid off. If she were staying I would definitely recommend this school to my cousin without hesitation. I think Joshua would love it here! Teachers have been great although there are one or two that are just average. The seminar program is excellent too, although your child must test into that. The PE teacher that they added a couple years ago has been a great help too; he really gets kids excited about PE. They also have before school & after school programs available. The school is in the middle of a huge renovation that will add a two story classroom building and remodel all of the existing classrooms. If you can get into Spreckels then I highly recommend the school for your child.

He has some social anxieties as well and the small size of the classes gave him a safe space to participate and rebuild some of his social skills. He has been very happy in his classes. However, to provide a further update since I wrote that last review, Jan Dunning, Founder and Principal, Haile Brooke, Vice Principal, and all of the staff and teachers, including Emmy Ibrahimovic, have impressed me even more. My son is going through a time of self-adjustment, and it was decided he would take a temporary leave of absence from in-person attendance. Within two days off this decision, my son's amazing educational team at CCA was on the ball, making sure he has everything he needs to continue with his school work, including ongoing Zoom lessons with his teachers, during his absence from the campus. I cannot tell you the relief we have knowing that our son's top rate CCA education will continue during these next few months, when he is not able to attend school in person. I continue to take great comfort in the fact that my son's education, happiness and future are tied in so many ways to our CCA family.

The teachers care so much about the students. One of the focus areas at "The MET" is their Learning Through Internships program. All of the kids do internships every Tuesday and Thursday instead of attending classes. This gives them the opportunity to learn about career choices, and practice work ethic, professionalism and other work skills. Another benefit of The MET is that they highly encourage the kids to take college classes, and the high school is located on the Mesa College campus. The kids have the opportunity to take as many free college classes as they want before graduating. And they are given the time in their schedules to do so if they'd like to. My sophomores have already taken four college classes and will ramp up their pace in the next two years. If you're looking for a small, tight-knit school that is very welcoming, this is a great option. However, it's not at the expense of academics. My kids are learning a lot and the program is just as rigorous, if not more so, than your "typical" high school. In fact, at The MET, the teachers will make sure your child understands the material, not just passes or fails.

When viewing the campus map online it appeared much larger and much more confusing than it actually was. The PA Center was immediately to my left as I pulled onto campus, very easy to find and parking was extremely close too! I also viewed the theater seating chart online to pick my seat. I really loved that it showed me which seats would have a blocked view, encouraging me to pick another one. The theater seemed much larger online than it actually was. So when I chose a front row seat, I had no idea I would be "kick up my feet onto the stage" close. It was still a great seat and I could see the entire performance. The acoustics were good as was the lighting. They could definitely use another bathroom, one is not enough!

If other students call your child a racial slur nothing is done. To not hold children accountable for their actions is enabling them to continue the deplorable behavior. In addition the school is saying they agree and encourage the behavior by doing nothing to punish or prevent this behavior.

At one time when my son was younger, it was a science magnet school but I don't think it is anymore. My brothers and I are all alumni of Silver Gate so of course, there will be a soft spot in my heart for this school. I haven't been to Silver Gate in a while but I dropped my neighbor's daughter off there for school not too long ago. The campus is still the same. The big auditorium next to the cafeteria; the large play field sandwiched right in the middle of the school. The Kindergarten located right above it all and the very convenient drive-thru alley that goes right down the side of the school. That alley is perfectly adapted for parents to just cruise down and drop their kids off at the end. No hassles with traffic or crosswalks or school cops! Simple and clean. As for the academics of Silver Gate, I think the school is just a few points behind nearby Sunset View Elementary School when it comes to test scores. I read that it is among the few public elementary schools in California to receive a distinguished GreatSchools Rating of 9 out of 10. I also know there is a lot of community spirit around the school. The parents are very supportive and turn out in large numbers for school events.Silver Gate Elementary School hosted a inaugural Holiday Tree Sale on Dec. 4 of last year to raise money for the Silver Gate Foundation. The Silver Gate website is full of notices for jog-a-thons, bake sales, restaurant fund-raisers, and silent auctions-all to raise money and benefit the school. With the School Choices program that San Diego Unified allows parents to take part in, there is absolutely no reason that any parent should shy away from placing their children in the best possible educational environment. Even if you are not as prosperous economically as some of the fine folks whose kids go to Silver Gate, it is not a snobby school by any means of the imagination. 5 YELP STARS (and not just cuz I went there!)

You and your kids will feel an immediate sense of community and school pride. The education is way better than I expected from the public school system. The parental fundraising provides an enhanced computer, science, PE program, plus a brand new sports field. The after-school activities are varied (Spanish, sports, STEM, etc). There is also after-school "Character Builders" program hosted by YMCA until 6pm. My one and only complaint is that the 7:40am is too early of a start for my family-this originally had me more interested in Sunset View for the 9am start time, but now that we feel the love of Silver Gate, we would never switch schools.
