Our girl is a virtual student at Altus. She enjoys it, is learning a lot, gets great help when needed from super teacher Amanda Smartwood.

I notice that most reviews are written by parents of younger kids. Believe me, the one thing I…read morecould have done better was find this place earlier! My son is now a sophomore in high school and the demands of HS have been high. He pulled through alright last year, with countless hours of ME chasing him about the house, getting him off the video games, etc. He usually (eventually) got his work done, but I had to be home ALL afternoon EVERY afternoon, because if I left, he wouldn't do it. My son had been meeting with Chase over the summer. Since he didn't have school, he didn't really have practice implementing the ideas that he and Chase came up with, so I wasn't sure how things were going to go. Kids have been back to school for one week. I've been gone every afternoon. My son has NO missing assignments! Yesterday, when I got home, he was sitting at the kitchen table, finishing his Chemistry. He'd already done his math. UNBELIEVABLE! If this continues, which I don't see why it wouldn't, I may get some freedom back in my afternoons. The thought is exhilarating!

Thank you!

The teachers always have fun activities planned, and send pictures and videos throughout the day! Somewhat recently they came under new ownership. Honestly I have no idea who the previous owner was, I don't think I ever saw or met them. But Sabriya is there every day, and you can definitely tell the difference. They've redone all the classrooms, they constantly have fun events planned (like a giant blow-up slide and ball pit for graduations, water days every Friday in July, reptile presentations and Kona ice, a Disney party with activities, snacks, and prizes for all the kids, etc.), and they've even added a food / lunch service (we didn't opt in to that, but the menu options looked good). They've also put in more security cameras and made other improvements. Everything looks completely different now, and they're still adding more! They also offer parents nights out, where they have dinner and fun activities planned for the kids so the parents can get away for a night. We never opted in for any of these either, but I thought it was pretty cool seeing the different themed nights they had planned. Overall, we couldn't have asked for a better daycare experience. Shoutout to all of our daughter's favorite teachers, especially Ms. Alma, Ms. Jamie, Ms. Diana, Ms. Jennifer, and Ms. Thelma (and many others)!

I am writing this review with the utmost gratitude for Golden Poppy Preschool and Daycare. Golden…read morePoppy and all the staff has honestly been such a blessing for my little girl! She has attended this daycare for the past 7months and she has loved all her teachers she has come across. This was my daughter's first daycare so it was daunting at first with the fear of not knowing how she would react to seeing new faces, but it only took a couple of weeks for her to acclimate to her new surroundings. Her teachers made it such an easy smooth transition into daycare. Ms. Deneve from the Starfish class was very caring and sensitive to her daily needs. She also helped and encouraged my daughter to crawl as she was late in her milestones. I love the fact that I would get daily updates through their app so I know when she would have a change, feeding, circle time, playtime, snacks, art time, nap time, etc. I really loved and enjoyed the multiple daily photo updates to help put my mind at ease. When she transitioned to the bigger class with Ms. Sam and Jen from Sea Turtles, she flourished, became more active, and had more motivation to walk as she was seeing her other friends do it. Her next class was with Ms. Jaydin and Vanessa and although she only spent a short amount of time there, we know she was very well taken care of, and they were very responsive to her needs. I cannot thank you all enough for taking care of this little Lily girl. Thank you to the manager Ms. Monique for being so great and supportive throughout the whole process. We loved the "Parent's Night Out" that they offer every other week to give parents some time for reconnection. She will miss spending those times with Ms. Monique and Ms. Teresa. We would like to give a special thanks to the owner Ms. Sabriya for always being so understanding and accommodating when Lily was sick and I couldn't pick her up right away. She took care of Lily in her office until I could finally get her. Sometimes she stayed late to care for her after hours as well. Which brings me to wonderful Ms. Kyilee and Ms. Sam who were always willing to stay after hours to watch Lily when I was stuck at work. I cannot put into words just how grateful I am for your endless support since moving down to SD with this little girl. My situation was unconventional in that I was a sole parent 5 days out of the week and this whole team of amazing caregivers/teachers had exceeded my expectations on what I could have ever imagined daycare to be. Thank you all from the deepest reaches of my heart!!!

Let me start by saying, this review is long overdue and our child is only in Pre-K!…read more The Evans School is more than a school, it's a family. At the core of this family is The Evan's School's "21 values." These 21 values serve as the foundation for the children's development. While most kids who attend a private school in La Jolla come from hard-working established families, the goal is aimed at developing the children into good-hearted and kind human beings.   Every morning starts with the pledge of allegiance and The Evans Pledge, " I promise myself today, to feel, to think, to speak and to act, only in accord with those things which are good and true and beautiful." How's that to start your day? ;) In a discussion with a group of well-educated parents whose children also attend Evan's, the question came up about investing in your child's development in earlier vs. later years. Everyone agreed that it's all about investing in the foundation of learning now in the younger years. This sets the stage for learning and gives them the tools they need to breeze through junior high school, high school and college if they choose to attend. Several Evans Alumni go on and attend prestigious colleges and many go straight to entrepreneurial endeavors or perhaps lives of service in the military. Regardless of what the student ends up doing later in life, the foundation for learning and The Evans values are engrained in each and every student so that they go on to become GOOD HUMANS.  If you're still reading and this resonates with you, then I suggest you set up a private tour of the school. That being said, I'm writing this during the COVID-19 pandemic and the kids are currently staying home. Unlike other schools, The Evans School immediately shifted gears and went to online learning leveraging Zoom and other software platforms so the kids could resume the much-needed structure and environment that they crave. I'm not going to lie, this was also much needed for our own sanity having at least one child attending school Monday - Friday.  I could not possibly give The Evans School a high enough rating. It's the type of place that creates raving fans and most importantly good humans. Alumni now send their children to the school. They continually honor grandparents and our military. It's not for everyone as it is more traditional in a world that seems to have abandoned more traditional values. I personally chose a path of service as a firefighter/paramedic and entrepreneur. My wife and I will continue to do whatever it takes to send our son to this amazing school because our priority is developing a strong foundation in learning while simultaneously instilling the values that create extraordinary humans.
