Altmann & Kühne is a confectionary (candy shop) that has been open in Vienna since 1928. Co-founder Emil Altmann fled Austria in 1938 but regained control of his company in 1950. It's a place with a lot of history, and I knew I wanted to visit it when my friend and I were in Vienna for a few days earlier this month. The shop is tiny and charming. And the candies are beautiful. It really felt like stepping 100 years into the past. Unfortunately, the service at the shop was quite bad (despite the fact that the candies are incredibly expensive) and the shop was really warm in early September (I worried everything would melt!). Definitely a little pricey for souvenirs, but if you want something that feels very old Vienna, it's not a bad shop to stop at (very near St. Stephen's). The best part of the experience was definitely the historic charm and the shop's history. read more
