I took my wedding dress to Joan for alterations in November 2023. My wedding day was March 23, 2024. I went to pick up my wedding dress at the beginning of March 2024 and she had cut the base of the dress (see pictures). The dress did not zip up all of the way and she knew that was an issue from the beginning, but she never did anything to fix that. She kept tugging at the dress, trying to squeeze me into it, to no avail. She also made a comment at an earlier fitting that I should order blackseed oil to suppress my appetite. Joan did not understand why I was so upset after seeing the dress. I was literally shaking from being so upset, so I left the shop with my ruined dress in hand. I returned a few days later to ask for a refund. Joan requires that you pay up-front for the alterations. She refunded me $125. The cost of the dress was not an issue because I bought it for $1 from an online flash sale. Joan ruined the most important piece of clothing I would have ever worn. Because of her negligence, I had to wear the dress that I planned on wearing to the wedding reception as my wedding dress. read more

I told her my job as a flight attendant and she called me a "sky waitress", which is the most ignorant belif about my job. Only on the perfect days ma'am. But that's a whole different point. I told her my dress was resale. She told me "she doesn't believe in wearing clothes that someone else wore" I told her I didn't have money to purchase a new dress and she said "yes you did!" Also I got bullied with her religion. I told her it wasn't a good fit for us to work together. She told me "her time wasn't free" and then refused to let me pay her for the "consultation". Ms. Joan was my angel. I cannot recommend her more highly! My mother bought a wedding dress for me that I saw when I was 20. Needless to say, I am not the same size or weight I was when I was 20. I searched for someone to do alterations. I could have gone with one of the big brand wedding warehouses who staff tons of people. I instead found Ms. Joan after some research. She couldn't have been nicer. She not only converted a zipper back dress to a corset, she matched the fabric perfectly and added hidden bustles so I can dance in my dress. I couldn't be happier with the alterations she did. To make matters better she is such a kind person. She always inquired after my family and my fiance. When I came to her and I was having a rough day, she gave good advice. Ms. Joan is more than an amazing seamstress. She's a true friend. I can't say enough nice things about her. Trust her. Joan altered a 3 piece suit for me. My fathers suit was big all over, however we have the same body type, and I had the idea to see if I could get it tailored to fit. Joan took on the project and did it in less than a week, with outstanding results. I was worried about the jacket, and shoulders, but everything came out amazaing. She had to do major alterations on all of the 3 pieces, but especially the pants, as my Dad was a little bigger than I remembered at one point apparently. Her talent and time management allowed me to wear my Fathers suit to his funeral service, which, to me was a priceless gift. Thank you Ms Joan! All in all I can't say enough about her work. I originally posted my bad experience with Joan on google, but she replied with a fabrication about masks. Which is odd because I wore mine and she kept pulling hers under her chin- which for me personally was uncomfortable because I have a compromised immune system. Luckily I'm already used to disappointment from her. Perhaps she was confusing me with a different unsatisfied customer. I don't know. It rubbed me the wrong way so I'll go into more detail here on yelp. When I got there she put a partition up so I can change for the pinning. She said, oh no, there are two girls coming to the door. Should I let them in??? I was in the middle of changing, not able to see what's going on so I said, "umm, I'd rather not since I don't have any pants on lol" She opened the door and they all started talking. I guess they knew one of them and she brought a friend, and they were all talking. Two younger girls. She asked one how far long she is, something along those lines. The girl was confused and told her she isn't pregnant. Joan swore up and down that "there is a baby in this room!" She came in to pin my pieces, and one item I did not bring the shoes I'd wear with it. My mistake. I totally get that. She treated me like an idiot for it and her tone seemed uncalled for. There were a couple other times in that session she used an unnecessary and quite rude tone with me, and here's the thing, even if I were the dumbest person shes ever met it's still not ok to treat someone the way she did. Anyway, she made me leave the pants with her and I came back when the other pants were supposed to be ready. They weren't. She said she'd get them all done at the same time which is not what we agreed. I was understanding, and when I finally did pick up my stuff and brought it home she completely forget alterations on an item. When I called her about it she was super defensive about it but said she'd fix it. I really shouldn't have but she made me pay up front which I've never experienced before and I didn't want to fight over a refund. I let her know I have an appt, but can pick them up after. She said she'd call. I asked if an hour and a half would be ok, she told me to go shopping and have lunch after then she'd call around that timing. She didn't. I called her. She said it's ready like I should have known. When I got there she said, "how was the appt?? You pregnant?? Did you find out you're pregnant?? You did right??" ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. Just wow. Stunned, I told her it's was a lash fill and she laughed and said oh hahah ya just gotta laugh... Joan wtf is wrong with you? Seriously? You don't know me! I could be barren, I could have any number of traumas or issues and Everyone knows you don't ask someone if they are pregnant. Joan Should feel utter shame for the way she behaves, especially masquerading as a respectful, religious person. AND her work was shoddy and there were threads and strings all over my items. I had to take one article to someone else to fix what she did. AND ofc after all this she made up that mask story completely. read more

I needed a shirt hemmed last minute, i was planning on going to my usual place i go to for all alterations but by the time i can pick up the shirt they had already closed and was just looking elsewhere just to see who else would be able to on short notice, i called this place not long before they closed and simply tried explaining what i was trying to do and she barely let me finish and with a not so great attitude or even friendly reaction says "ok that's gonna be a rush", i just simply said ok thanks and hung up. That is fine im fully aware it would have to be rushed possibly but i think she could have handle it a little calmer and at least let me finish talking and explaining the situation. read more
