As another reviewer indicated almost five years ago, they will harass you to no end for an email address at checkout. During a recent visit, the cashier I photographed was so insistent and persistent, that we had to leave the item on the counter and walk out. We couldn't just purchase something. The cashier demanded we give our email address. Saying "no" once, twice or twenty times won't matter. It's harassment! If the culture here comes from corporate Hot Topic as a driver for marketing purposes, it's quite extreme. You're literally losing sales and customers.

Example, I paid under $10 for a Promo copy of Elvis Costello Blood and Chocolate in very nice, VG+/E condition. Good Jazz selections as well. They also had a nice selection of bootlegs which you don't see very often. They sell books and clothing which for me usually means it's not a serious store, but Main Steet Beat is the exception. Great staff well laid out and popular, the store has a nice vibe plus Nyack is a fun town to visit with great restaurants and a rich history.

As I browsed this store which at the time had 3 or 4 customers including myself and my friend, I took 4 photos - one of my friend and 3 photos of cute dish towels and coffee mugs with funny sayings on them, I didn't touch these items or rearrange them in any way. When we initially entered the store the sales women were very welcoming and friendly but all of a sudden the mood of one salesperson shifted dramatically. I was walking in a very narrow area and the employee who is an older woman with large framed eyeglasses came way too close to me (neither of us wearing face masks) and said in a stern, unfriendly tone of voice "can I help you?" I immediately felt uncomfortable because of her tone and too close physical proximity to me . I smiled and said no. Then, again in a stern tone of voice she said "any questions about anything?" Again I said no . Then, again with the same stern voice and close physical Proximity she said with the same tone " Any questions about anything you are taking photos of?" In an irritated tone of voice she said next time ask to take photos and looking down at the phone in my Hand she ordered me to "and turn off your camera" I was speechless and never experienced any treatment like this before in any store or establishment . If she said in a neutral tone or dare I say friendly tone of voice - we have a no photo without permission policy or I'm sorry but please no photos - I would have apologized - I saw no signs posted in the store warning of this policy that was obviously very important to this person . On my way home, I found myself feeling very unsettled . This really ended my visit to the shops in Nyack on a very sour note! I decided that I would contact the manager or owner of Maria Luisa boutique to share my unpleasant encounter with their sales person. As I found their information on the internet I came to discover it was the store owner herself -Maria Luisa who treated me so poorly!! Needless to say , I will never return to this boutique! "

I noticed those reviews mention the obvious reasons they didn't accept the return like no receipt, past return window, & final sale items. Those people just don't like to be told no lol. The employees were decent. I was glad they had my exchange item in stock because that's rare now a days so I'm happy with their selection. Prices are hit or miss. You'll find some good deals but usually the quality of those items are poor. The good brands are a little overpriced. You can find them cheaper elsewhere but I felt like I got a good deal on a decent brand item which is rare there. Overall was pleased after being skeptical at first.
