Finding Dr. Alter has been the best thing since I moved to Florida. In 2013, my back took a bad hit when a drunk driver ran a stop sign and t-boned my car. I had a very bad experience with Dr. Ryan Alter. He seemed more interested in how much money I could pay than with helping ease my neck pain and headaches. He was overtly hostile about the fact that I had Medicare and Medicare supplement and informed me that that was not enough to cover treatment at HIS office. Alter said he has 80 patients a day who want to see him so he can pick and choose which patients he wants. It seemed to me that massive arrogance motivated his comment: 'All the lousy chiropractors will take what they can get from Medicaid and not charge you extra.' Alter casually wiped my questions and concerns and questions off his shoes and ushered me right out the door of the consultation room after I told him that I live on a small fixed income and couldn't afford a lot more monthly than my 3 insurances pay. The office help was initially very friendly, but informed me that the doctor only told them to quote me the cost of decompression therapy sessions totaling $2,150. I asked if I had chiropractic only what would be my share of costs? Haley told me that she could not answer my question because Dr. Alter had not told her to. Haley mentioned that a Medicare audit had cost them a LOT of money. so apparently this is the reason Medicare patients are treated disrespectfully in this office. Ostensibly Medicare coverage means patients are "slumming" and not worth their time or energy. All sweetness on was gone. When I asked if there were other chiropractors that accepted Medicare, again, there was no answer nor any attempt to be helpful. It's about money, money, money at Alter chiropractic. I would not recommend any Medicare patients seek treatment there unless they are independently wealthy. Apparently Alter is too elitist for mere ordinary patients without BIG BUCKS. Having never seen a chiropractor since I was in my teens, I had no idea what doctor to choose and what might be available in regards to treatment options. He was very clear that pain relief would take time which I understood so I never expected miracles after a few visits.
