I recently upgraded the shocks and struts on my 2010 BMW 328i RWD to Koni FSD's by another shop. I drove it for a while but the steering never seemed right, despite getting an alignment from another place. I read some positive reviews for Al Tech so I decided to try them out for another alignment in hope of solving the steering issue. The first time I went to Al Tech, it was in the afternoon with little notice beforehand. They accommodated me despite my short notice, but they were understandably busy when I arrived. Anyway, I got the alignment done, handed a before-and-after report, and got back on the road. However, I still felt something was off despite being unable to put my finger on it, so I went back and spoke to one of their mechanics Jim. Jim explained to me that the numbers are all within spec, but I still wasn't happy with the way it drove and asked Jim to come for a test drive with me. Despite being very busy, Jim agreed. After a short test drive, Jim figured out the problem, which he referred to as "memory steering". In short, if you do a u-turn to the right, the car would pull to the right afterwards. If you do a u-turn to the left, it would pull to the left afterwards. He said that's an indication of something else going on other than the alignment, and he asked me to go back another day so they can investigate (it was 6pm by that time). I made an appointment and went back another day. Jim promptly put my car on the hoist, disconnected the tie rods, and checked the struts to see if they were spinning freely. Turns out the passenger side one was spinning freely as expected, but the driver side one wasn't. It would take a great deal of effort to make it spin and was basically very "sticky". He was sure that's the source of the memory steering issue. After dissembling the struts, he found a critical component (a dome-shaped washer) was installed upside down by the shop that upgraded my struts! That prevented the strut mount from spinning freely. After he re-installed it the correct way and put everything together, they did another alignment and this time, the car felt perfect on the road. It was driving straight like an arrow and I was able to enjoy the Ultimate Driving Machine the way it's intended. Best of all, Pat and Jim charged a very modest fee for their most excellent service. Don't let the appearance of the shop fool you (I almost did, having the first impression of it being kind of run-down). It's the substance that counts! I had a great experience at Al Tech and felt Pat and Jim genuinely cared for their customers such as myself. Jim was especially patient with me and explained everything very clearly. He brought me into the shop to show me the sticky strut and made sure I understood the root of the issue. That was greatly appreciated. Thank you Al Tech. Everyone needs a go to mechanic and I've got one! Any make or model, Altech at 384 Olivewood Road in Etobicoke is my go to. They have looked after my families variety of vehicles for years and the quality and customer service is amazing. They had me hooked when after asking them to check my brakes, came back with, "your brakes are fine. We'll check them again at your next oil change." They even retrofitted my Porsche convertible top from automatic to manual saving me thousands in repairs. Maybe that's why they are so busy. Trust me, you won't be disappointed. read more

I have been taking my older model porsche cayenne to altech for approx 8 years now. Honest honest service. Can't say enough good things. Just great guys. Being a chick they don't talk down to me or give me the run around which is what I have come to expect elsewhere. They do great work and they're always upfront about what needs to be done and what can wait which I appreciate. I am now taking my Subaru WRX STI to them after being hosed by Marino's Subaru on the Queensway. Marino's quoted almost $3600 for brakes for a 4 yr old vehicle. I called Altech they took me the same day and my bill was far far less for comparable parts and this is always what they do - good and honest service. read more

I found Altech through a Google search where I asked for 'best alignment toronto' and came across a bunch of forums where car owners shared info about their brand or model. Lots of good word about Altech's work and the prices. I went twice for an alignment and both times there was an improvement, but neither time was my steering wheel straightened. The car was only test-driven afterwards and I was told that it's best they could do, which I was okay with 'cause it's an old car and the suspension could have some parts replaced to improve things. Each visit I waited around while the friends or regulars had their cars serviced or hung out in the garage talking and smoking. On my third visit, when I got the front struts replaced, I sat and waited for at least a half hour before seeing the parts delivery guy walk in with my struts. I had made an appointment in person the week before and was on time, but no one bothered to have the parts on hand. Maybe they get lots of no-shows, but someone could have told me to come back and I could have gone for coffee or run an errand and come back. When I asked about replacing my car's front struts, I was given one price, but no options for different quality parts. Turns out the cheap Monroe struts they picked for me were garbage and little more than a year later I had to replace them already along with the strut mounts, ruined by the cheap Monroe's failing. I wished they had bothered to find and quote for OEM 'cause I would have spent a little more for better quality parts. I think they saw a guy with an old car and didn't care and didn't think I did and just found what was easiest. A friend of a friend who I referred to them had a great experience. She was buying a car off Craigslist that had low mileage that seemed too good to be true and Altech inspected the car and gave her feedback on it so she could make an informed purchase. Last I heard, she's been happy with the car and has them service it. I decided not to go back, because I don't think they're very interested in my car and I don't like feeling like I'm an annoyance to a company I'm giving money to. read more

I've been to this shop now numerous times, and each time I need any maintenance/repair on my vehicle, they are able to accommodate me, and each time for a very reasonable price. Excellent shop for stock and lowered cars! Pat was very knowledgable, and you can tell he loves what he does. I was there for an alignment on a lowered car and was kept in the loop throughout the entire process. I was there for longer than I expected due to additional rear camber work but I would rather them take their time to do quality work, than rush to get me out faster. Last year I backed my old car into a fence post in a narrow laneway, ramming my tire and putting my alignment out. I limped the car to Altech after scouring auto forums for a cheap, trustworthy garage to get an alignment. They got me in within an hour (as I needed to get to work) and did the front end for $60. Considering my old car had rusted bolts they had to torch, and something bent so they had to shift the alignment so I couldn't turn all the way to the left to get me on the road, I was really appreciative that they still only charged me the 60! The whole time they were really friendly, and explained what was happening, I work a trade myself, so it's good to know that there are other honest, hardworking people out there. I'm crazy about my car, picky about who works on it, and I want things done perfectly. I'm glad to have found Pat at Altech, because he gave me the alignment I was looking for. I went in knowing how I wanted the car aligned, and he took the time to discuss it with me, suggest why I might not want it that way for the winter, and showed me on the suspension where he had room to adjust, and where he was limited due to suspension design and rusty parts. He then a great job with the alignment - virtually identical on both sides, within spec but biased the way I wanted for my personal preferences, the kind of personal service you rarely get. He also got the car to 0.00 degrees thrust angle which is perfect, and most other places can't be bothered to take the time to get it that good. At the same time, someone else took care of a customer who just wanted to get a standard alignment done, and go get a coffee while they took care of his car. The fact that they can handle a picky pain-in-the-butt like me, and an average car owner at the same time, is a very good sign. I won't go anywhere else for an alignment, and I'm recommending them highly to everyone else in the local car club that I'm a member of. read more

Felt like i got ripped off. i read some good stuff online about these guys so i decided to go to them to get alignment for 60$ when i went there for my booked appointment they said i barely needed any alignment it was near perfect but still i told them to fix the rear which was about 1 degree off and they assured me the front was okay. They told me its going to be a bit more work because u would have to unbolt the camber arms to adjust which is literally one bolt (posted link below post picture of camber arms), i said no problem. 1 hours later they come out and slapped me with 150$ and told me they did all around alignment when i just told them i only needed back done which barely needed adjustments. His excuse was oh we spent more time and we fixed your lugnut stud which i didnt even tell them to fix infact i told them to leave it and he said he already "fixed it" he just re threaded the stud didnt even replace it. Paying 2.5 times what every one else paid is crazy and you dont just fix stuff with out asking and charge for it. I do NOT trust these guys they do a good job on alignment, but seems like they also take advantage when they can. also they gave me a copy of the numbers and behind it was written in pen 70$. Have been coming here for past 8 years. From bringing my modded vw's to my family haulers never had a problem with any alignments done here. Usually done on time with appointments, but understandable that busy shops can't stick to a schedule all the time. Being constantly busy is a good sign that the job is done well. read more
