Dr Dan is the best of the best. He takes time with each patient and answers every question. All the office staff is knowledgeable and helpful. They accept Medicare and most other insurances. I have been a patient for nearly 30 years and have referred many friends to his office. Every few years I need new orthotics and if the old ones are salvageable, he repairs them. Thank You for taking good care of me and my family. My father, sister, children, mother and father-in-law are all patients. read more

I wish all doctors were as kind, knowledgeable and caring as is Dr. Altchuler. I came to see him after a fall resulting in a broken bone in my foot. He not only gives you far more time than you'd expect from a doctor these days, that time is filled with clear, sound intelligence and a great deal of compassion. In every visit I've had with him, he went above & beyond - including analyzing foot x-rays (via text message) I had taken in the UK while my foot was healing. Yes, the office is filled with doggies. They bark when you arrive, but ultimately are quiet big furry babies. If you have problems with dogs, take that into consideration. But I had no problem whatsoever. The office staff and his assistants are efficient and respectful. If you want a big, shiny ultra modern Doctor's office, this isn't the place. It's the coziest doctor's office I've ever seen in LA/Santa Monica. But the advice is sound, the follow-up is superb and he truly cares about his patients. If anyone I loved needed a foot doctor, I would (gently) march them to Dr. Dan. They'll ultimately leave dancing in the aisles. read more

I've heard great things about Dr Dan and the dogs. He wasn't available so I saw a different doctor. After a short exam for plantar fasciitis, I was prescribed 10-12 physical therapy sessions from a different provider, and then to return for "shockwave therapy". Shockwave sessions cost $225 per foot, and not covered by insurance. Dr said I would need both feet, and three sessions. Before committing to $1350 I sought a second opinion from a Dr Oswell near Cedars. After X-rays, they also recommended shockwave therapy. No PT needed. Though also not covered, the cost was $150/session including both feet. That's $75 v $225 per foot. So for $450 I would receive the same treatment offered by Dr Dan's office for $1350. Santa Monica vs WeHo real estate cost difference? I love dogs too, but that's a lot of kibble difference in fees. Caveat emptor! read more

Exceptional doctor: very knowledgeable, caring, personable and generous with his time. He takes the time to listen, evaluate and explain. Office and staff are also warm and friendly and very well organized. This office had the best Covid protocol of any I've experienced. I read more

Dr. Altchuler is fantastic. He is truthful and I am grateful of his advise of my problem. I went to see him because my knee was hurting after walking even a short distance. I thought orthotics would help but he said no. He showed me two stretches that he thought would really help. I love the dogs!! read more

Dr. Dan is great. I have been going to him for over over 15 years and he has helped me deal with the horrible feet that I inherited from my mother's side of the family. I trust him completely and can't recommend him more highly. read more

I was referred to Dr. Altchuler for a work-related injury (auto accident) nearly 20 years ago. My first contact with Dr. Altchuler, I found him to be very professional and very concerned with my medical condition. Dr. Altchuler began his corrective measures by identifying why I was having foot pain. Dr. Altchuler prescribed orthotic inserts to correct the issues he observed. I was somewhat skeptical that the orthotic inserts would relieve my pain. Because of his genuine concern and presentation on the benefits of using the orthotic inserts I followed his directions. By following his directions, I began to feel the benefits of his treatment. During my time with Dr. Altchuler, I began to feel pain in other areas. Over the next several years Dr. Altchuler identified a bone spurs on my right ankle, left ankle and left heel. Each one of the identified bone spurs required surgery to relieve the pain. Dr. Altchuler performed each of the three surgeries. Preparing for each of the three surgeries was stress-free with no concerns. Prior to each surgery Dr. Altchuler took the time to address any concerns I may have had. Over ten years have passed since my last visit with Dr. Altchuler. My most recent contact with Dr. Altchuler occurred when I noticed a bump on my left foot at the base of my toes. Over a period of time, the bump grew. As the bump grew I noticed my toes were going numb. I called the office of Dr. Altchuler and scheduled an appointment. After consultation with Dr. Altchuler, I had surgery number four. My recent visit with Dr. Altchuler found Dr. Altchuler and the office staff as friendly and concerned about my issue as they had in the past. I appreciate that Dr. Altchuler does not keep a line of separation between us. He does not keep a cold unemotional doctor-patient relationship. He is very friendly and concerned about my issues. The office staff is as caring and friendly as Dr. Altchuler. I would have no concern problem recommending Dr. Altchuler for any medical needs that fall under his area of expertise. read more

I was referred to Dr. Dan by a friend and love going to his office. The office is located on 15th off Wishire across from the UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica. He is on the 10th floor of a large medical building. There is a covered parking garage attached to the building but the rates are pretty pricey so I park in the city lot that you can enter on 14th street just behind the building and walk the short distance over. Well worth it for $1.00 per hour! The receptionist is always courteous and friendly. She is great at explaining bills and calling to remind you of appointments. If you don't like dogs, you probably will not like this office. Dr. Dan and his wife train and show multiple dogs who just hang around the office area. I personally love seeing them and they occasionally might come up to me if I beg them, but they really are quiet and well behaved and stay pretty much out of the way. I always love seeing them! Dr. Dan is really knowledgeable and friendly. He has a very laid back attitude and likes to spend time chatting with his patients. Never seems to be in a hurry at all. He watched my gait as I walked and let me know why I was having pain in my hips and knees as my feet twist a little when I walk. I had orthotics made for me at the office and asked him about them. He didn't push it at all. I like the no hard sell kind of feel that I get there. Dr. Dan is really great about trying to save you money where he can as well. I needed a product that he could have ordered for me but said it is expensive and directed me to a product that I could use in place of that. Again, he could have ordered it for me and charged me whatever but said I could get it cheaper elsewhere. Nice to feel like he is looking out for my best interest! The orthotics fit great and he has had me back in to check them twice before the warranty expires so I could have them replaced if need be. I will definitely be back and would highly recommend Dr. Dan to anyone needing to find a great podiatrist in the area. read more

My experience with podiatrists is limited I'll admit, but Dr. Dan was great and my feet are better for it. From the moment I walked in to the waiting room to the end of my appointment I was treated like a guest. Everyone was so welcoming and helpful. They take my insurance which is a plus and the ladies in the front were so sweet! Thanks Dr. Dan! read more

A friend of mine referred me to Dr. Altchuler because the therapy I was receiving was not working. My insurance didn't cover me seeing Dr. Altchuler for a second opinion. Out of desperation I called Dr. Altchuler hoping he would spend a few minutes with me over the phone and provide me some ideas and suggestions. He called me promptly, after I left a message explaining what I needed. He spent not a few minutes, but nearly 30 minutes discussing my problem and then volunteered to review my MRIs when they came in, for free, no strings attached and no push to come into his office and become a patient. He was simply helping me out of the goodness of his heart. Once I got the MRIs he then spent 30 minutes opening the MRI disc photos and spent another 30 minutes reviewing them with me and giving me his professional opinion and suggestions. He explained what he felt would work and why, in a very clear way with actionable suggestions. He also explained why the treatments I am currently receiving are not working. I have only met 1 or 2 other medical professionals who have been so generous with their time, especially for someone they don't even know. I can't thank him enough. I am just blown away by his generosity and professionalism. read more

I have been going to Dr. Alschuler for the past 2-3 years for ankle tendonitis at the referral of a few doctors. His diagnosis and subsequent discussion and followup PT were great.. He spent a lot of time with me on my activities, shoe fits, eg very comprehensive and caring Because of very high arches, he fitted me about 4 months for new orthodics which have been great. He and his staff were great about it and they took the time to watch me walk, talk with me, take an imprint and he even gave me his home number to call over the holidays after I was wearing them in case I had any problems-which I did not. Recently, he fitted me for athletic orthodics and again, could not be happier. he was clear, informative and very professional and also very nice and enjoyable to speak with. Recommend without hesitation. read more

Best podiatrist ever! Helps when I make everything worse because I eat until the last minute... Friendly staff, & great doctor.

Doctor Dan is wonderful. There isn't a doctor out there more skilled and as important, as kind. He is professional and concerned and actually really cares about his patients even when he isn't in the office. He goes that extra mile to make certain I am cared for. I had an injury over a holiday and he stayed in contact the whole time. I feel so lucky to have Dr, Dan taking care of me. The office staff is lovely as well. I could not recommend anyone more. read more

If zero stars were an option, I would choose that. Dr. Altchuler was extremely rude and unprofessional. I went in with heel pain and from the moment I said hello, he was condescending and insulting to the point where I was in shock and could barely speak. I had to finally ask for stretches/exercises and only then did he reluctantly show me one offered no other useful information to help my foot heal. He told me how my foot should function and very happily pointed out how my foot is out of alignment. The office is also quite dirty and he has his 5 dogs there and throws dog treats all around on the floor while fitting you for Orthotics. I prefer that my doctors are warm caretakers who are professional and knowledgeable and work in a sanitary environment. Therefore, I have switched to a new podiatrist for better care. read more

My 6yr. old daughter sat in the exam room with me while one of Dr. Dan's assistants (older female, wears thick glasses) started to do the preliminary exam on her and told my daughter to take her sweater off so she could get her blood pressure (not sure why blood pressure is needed for orthotics?), my daughter didn't want to so the assistant went to GRAB her arm saying "Well I'm going to roll up your sleeves then". My daughter pulled her arm away and the assistant, WORD for WORD, said "You're going to be a little shit!". I asked the assistant if she said what she just said and she replied "Yes, I did." I took my daughter out of there right away, stopped by another exam room on the way out to tell Dr. Dan what happened, and the assistant came running up trying to play it off as a joke. What did Dr. Dan do/say? NOTHING!!! Remember, you are ALWAYS judged by the company you keep. By the way, Did I mention this was one of the filthiest doctors offices I have ever seen? read more

Dan Altchuler has been my podiatrist for the past twelve years. I had been advised that orthotic correction would help with my skeletal alignment and ease back pain. Dr. Altchuler diagnosed my situation quickly by watching me walk, and created customized orthotic shoe inserts that have been consistently helpful to me. Annual visits have contributed to the success of the inserts, as they do need adjustment and occasional replacement. I look forward to these visits because of Dr. Altchuler's easy-going demeanor, sincere concern and tenacity in solving problems. With a friendly and professional staff, the clinic is well run and efficient. I recommend Dr. Altchuler whole-heartedly. read more

My wife and I have been patients of Dr. Dan and his staff for many many years. We have had nothing but wonderful service and treated with the utmost respect and care. They have outfitted me with all my orthodic needs for over 10 years and saved my knees. On our most recent visit they tweaked my newest orthodics and they feel great. Also they always have their working dogs there...which is a big plus as my wife and I are huge animal lovers. Kudos to Dr, Dan and his entire staff...always friendly caring and respectful. Not the usual stuffy West Side Dr's experience...Very real and down to earth!! read more
