The students really get immersed in the education by hands on experiencing it with art, literature, science, and music. The Pre-K assessment is overkill. They make parents wait in a small library, take your student for…read morean hour-long assessment that over the phone was described by Admissions Director Megan Jones as to see how they interact with other students. Come to find out (after several emails requesting to know more about their request for a SECOND assessment), they are very critical of your child. Preschool Director Betsey Vallery states in her email to me: "[Student] was very interested in the items in our classroom and such a sweet little boy. He did have difficulty following teacher one-step instructions and redirection. For example, when the teacher called [Student] to small group to draw, he ran around the carpet area. The teacher came alongside him and told him to please use his walking feet and modeled her walking feet. This gentle redirection is usually very successful as it's 1:1 in this assessment setting, but he continued to run." [Student] had just turned four only three days prior to the assessment. He's extremely responsive with adult direction, and I find this commentary completely inappropriate. As a former teacher myself, this is not even something that should be a concern. In addition, she states that [Student] didn't know how to write name, draw a self portrait, count to 10 or identify shapes, all of which he's been able to do for more than a year. I wasn't there in the assessment, but I do wonder about the effectiveness of the teacher to inspire participation. I felt that this was not an age-appropriate Pre-K. They want students that already know what they need to know for kindergarten so they don't have to do their jobs in teaching them.

Admin is quick to help and answer any questions or concerns. I wouldnt hesitate if you are searching for a private school home.

As a result, I have made the decision to withdraw my daughter from Howard School and enroll her in another school. I am extremely dissatisfied with the lack of organization and professionalism demonstrated by the administration. Based on our experience, I would not choose this School again and would not recommend it to other parents. I not consider the Howard School like Magnet level, nothing good in this school

They've done a great job of adequately challenging my kids. Some teachers are great proactive communicators, others not so much, but all have been great at responding to emails whenever I've needed anything. They also make sure the kids have adequate physical activity, though some of my friend's kids have had teachers who take away PE privileges when classes are unruly during teaching time which I disagree with strongly. The only things I'd change are I think a second language should be part of specials for all kids and I think SCPS food choice could be healthier with less junk food extras for sale. The carline could also be better and the fence around the property is rusty and in need of being replaced. PTA is also pretty active which is wonderful!

Problem solved at annunciation Catholic academy. The teachers are very attentive the lesson plans even in pre k are light years ahead of public schools. My child will attend this school until she ages out. Anyone that has hesitations about public school check this school out. Annunciation has gone above and beyond for my daughter and I as said she has food restrictions and they make every effort to make sure her diet is met!

First- let me say that the director and the staff has always been very nice and receptive to our…read moreneeds. The turnover is incredibly high but that is to be expected with such low pay. My issue is not with the staff but with "the owners" (as everyone calls them). "The owners" allowed the school to place a placard at the check in podium, advertising part time rates. This prompted me to ask if I could enroll my son part time as I was changing jobs. This was warmly received and there were no issues. After I found out I was expecting, I asked about part time rates for my baby. They didn't offer infant care at the time so I found alternate childcare while my daughter was an infant. Because I liked the facility and they offered part-time rates I was excited to get to enroll my daughter the one-year-old room. We were informed that if a spot was open come time for my daughter to be enrolled, she would be permitted to attend part time because my son was already enrolled although they discontinued part time rates. My daughter began attending this school on October 3. On February 20 we were notified that we had until the end of the week to either enroll our children full-time or to find alternate childcare as they had families interested in enrolling their children full-time and needed my children's spot. The owners agreed to give us an additional week to find alternate childcare but I do not feel as if this was an appropriate way to handle a family who had been Enrolled for over two years and never had a late payment. This school views your child as a paycheck. The worst part about this all was that this was done eight days before my son's fourth birthday and six months before he would have began pre-k. These are the only other children my children have ever known. You cannot imagine what it was like to explain to my son that he was not permitted to continue to go to the only school and play with the only friends he has ever known.
