Drove 1 1/2 hours to get some oranges (main store closed) on a Saturday in an attempt to support this business. There was hardly any fruit available and zero citrus products other than orange juice. Big Al's is one of Fort Pierces oldest orange farms. The place has an old fashioned ambiance. Big Al passed away in 1987 and the farm is now owned by his son Jeff Schorner. For 42 years the farm has been hand picking citrus and boxing it up for shipment. King's Highway used to be filled with citrus farms. Florida produces 56 percent of the nations orange supply. Outside the big red barn is the Red Barn Grill where they serve breakfast and lunch. They have eggs, sandwiches, wraps, salads, Mexican food and a specialty called the Sunshine Shake made with ice cream and fresh squeezed orange juice. You can eat your meal on their picnic tables. There are two windows for ordering, one of which is marked grill. I wanted to order a sunshine shake and this is not a grilled item so I went to the other window. The lady at the window heard what I wanted but told me I was at the wrong window. No problem, I walked to the other window and she walked up to the front on the inside. When I got up there there was another young lady who was busy making shakes for other people. She asked the woman who had just spoken to me to help me and she said no. The shake lady again said please help her, I'll give you the code. She replied no to helping me again. By that time I was steaming. I don't mind waiting but this lady was RUDE. I apologized for inconveniencing them with my business and left. It's a shame because this is a cute place but I won't be back. read more

Very old Florida vibe of roadside fruit stand with lots of atmosphere!!! You cannot, I repeat, cannot bypass the Sunshine Shake!!! It's drinking an orange orchard!!! Reminiscent of an Orange sherbet in a cup. I also had their burger and it was very good! What a great break from cutting across the Florida Turnpike to connect to I-95 or vice versa. Just love coming to this place for lunch when I'm in the area. Great lunch food at reasonable prices. Wonderful setting considering it's right on king's highway. Always plenty of seating. Mostly locals come here. Everything is cooked to order so there's a little wait as can be expected. I appreciate that they don't add on tips as most counter places are doing. We stopped here for an early lunch while driving from Vero Beach to West Palm Beach after doing a quick Yelp search for a local spot not far off the highway. Al's is an adorable roadside stop that serves traditional breakfast and lunch and also a pretty good selection of Spanish food. Seating is entirely outdoors with some tables under cover. This is a great spot to stop if you are driving with restless children, they have a cute outdoor play area where your kids can get some energy out. The BLT wrap I ordered was basic but good. Great size for the price and was freshly made. The fresh orange juice was great and the sweet tea was worth a refill before hitting the road again. read more

This is a cute little country style establishment. They have a different menu in the afternoon. We stopped here to get one of their orange shakes and while we were waiting I went around taking pictures of their fresh fruit and freshly squeezed oranges. Delicious breakfast & lunch but they are only open 8am-2:30pm Monday-Saturday & closed Sunday. My husband always orders the Breakfast burrito which seems to be their most popular item, the home fries served with breakfast are excellent & the orange juice is outstanding, just a little pricey. Around $6 for 1/2 gallon. I just recently had their Sunshine Shake for the first time & I crave it almost everyday now, it's absolutely DELICIOUS! It was around $6-$7 for what I'd consider a medium size (their only size) but I will definitely buy it again because it's worth every cent. I called in my order twice this year before picking it up & both times it was wrong, maybe they were super busy those days because it can get busy there with their short hours, but I checked the order before going home & they fixed it fast so it's ok. The staff seems a little young & overwhelmed. The gift shop offers citrus tours, local honey, hard scoop ice cream, free OJ samples & a cute little spot for kids to play. The food was mediocre. My husband had the burrito, and I had the cheeseburger with Fries. My husband said the burrito tasted cold, like it was still frozen. They did Not microwave at High heat And it was super soggy not because of the sauce or cheese. My cheeseburger tasted like cardboard, and my fries tasted old and stale. They looked and tasted like they had been sitting under the lantern for a couple of hours. read more

Wanted to try this place for a long time BUT they are not open on the weekend nor are they open for dinner. Finally made it there a few weeks ago. Very reasonable, super friendly service, and the food was quite good. They have specials every day (they don't have a website but do a google/yahoo search and you will find their menu) and my mother had the special of the day, a sausage sandwich. Very much akin to what she enjoyed up north...sausage on a roll with onions and peppers. I had a steak taco salad and it was delish...and huge! :) I didn't notice at first but they have a large play area for children next to the main building...it appears to be fun and educational...teaching the kids about orange groves, etc. I must admit the main reason I loved this place was for the nostalgia...the town I grew up in had a summer hot dog/hamburger/ice cream place very similar to this called Uncle Teddy's...walk up to the window to order, receive your order at another window, eat at a picnic table. As a child, when you are finished eating at a restaurant and must sit still and wait for the adults to finish, a place like this where you can leave the table and run around outside..well...it's a gold mine. :) read more

This place has no clue about customer service. They are rude as rude gets. Has all kinds of excuses as to why they lost our order ticket and instead of apologizing and just making the food quickly. After we sat there waiting over 30 minutes for our food, and being told that it was almost ready. Only to find out that they had lost out ticket and the food was never made. They were defensive, gave us our money, and told my husband to leave. After we had already spend even more money their stupid store next door. Had to call several times to get a hold of a manager. If i could give less stars i would, I have consistently going to Red Barn for two years because I work in the commercial buildings behind this establishment. If you're looking for low quality food and service then you've found your place. I cant even begin to remember every time I've had a messed up order or more recently I've been threatened with an up charge because i wanted extra sour cream or green sauce with my order, which there is nothing in the menu specifying up charge but either way the customer comes first? Right? They advertise authentic Mexican food also which is a joke. Its one of those places where you would put up with lower than normal quality food and from time to time wait in the window for service like you're not even there. read more

Very cool spot. Great play area for the kids with many games and activities. All of the food was made fresh, so it does take a bit longer, but well worth the wait. We ordered everything from tacos to fried fish, and all of it was great. They also had fresh fruit, local honey, and many dessert options including ice cream which we'll try next time! read more

What a great find!!! 1st I want to tell you about the SWEET Lady in the shop that makes dog biscuits(not for sale yet ha ha) my little 5lb 7oz poodle doesn't like dog treats, until he tried hers now he he knows where I put them and stands on the floor and paws at the counter until I go over and get him one, how funny. The folks that work there are really great and we love the place. The Sunshine Shake is the best thing I ever put in my mouth, I feel like doing what that dog on the old cartoons did when someone gave him a dog biscuit mmm mmm mm mm mm mm mmm ahhhhhh! I will not be returning to this establishment. On my most resent visit the girl who took my order was very rude, and condescending. She seemed annoyed that I had a question about the menu and quickly snapped an answer at me. Also again they were out of Mexican food, I'm actually starting to question if the Mexican food actually exists. Other patrons mentioned the overflowing trash bins and said something to the girl who took my order and her response was an eye roll and sigh, not exactly something you expect when someone is simply trying to let you know about the state of your establishment. When there for breakfast on my way to the keys from Vero Beach. Cool little place next to a farm. The girl at the counter was welcoming and friendly. Now most of the breakfast menu had either bacon or sausage which is standard for American or Mexican food.
