Everything you hear about this place is true.....it is authentic Hungarian deliciousness. Nothing fancy, but sooo good. There were people in front of us we heard talking and had come here from Southern California after having heard about it, so it MUST be good. The dumplings were my fave. Pierogies were my second fave. They tasted so incredibly fresh and homemade. The sauces on each thing in the sampler platter....OMG....I dipped the bread into all of the juices and it was soooo delectable. I could only finish like 1/4 of it and I enjoyed some very nice leftovers later on in the day. This place is the definition of a hidden gem! Eat in or take out. If you eat in it has a bit of a cafeteria feel- Go to the counter, tell them what to fill your plate with. Find a seat. The counter staff are cheerful and warm. Don't door dash this one. The way this little restaurant smells is part of the experience! It closes at 2 pm, but perfect to get to go. Pick it up for dinner. The to go containers are foil pans, so it's perfect to pick up in the afternoon and heat up in the oven. Don't sleep on this one. This place is a true gem! I didnt think id find any authentic food in Barberton but this is it, probably the best restaurant in town! I had the lunch special which is $7.99 and is an entree with 2 sides. I had chicken paprikas and green beans, mashed potatoes. My husband had the chicken paprikas also with sauerkraut and spicy sausage (yes, the sausage could be a side!). We were so happy with our meals. The price was amazing for what you got. The workers have always been friendly. Parking is usually plentiful on the street near the place. You can eat there but we always take it togo. Today, my husband and I tried this place for the first time. We do not live locally and wanted to try the food after all the great reviews. It was a pain to get there with all the construction BUT it was well worth it!!! We both skipped breakfast to try the sampler. The food is delicious and given to you with a friendly smile. Loved it all but my most favorite is the cabbage roll!!! So good and tons of flavor. Atmosphere is nice and staff is very friendly. Would of never of known about this place with out Yelp's users leaving awesome reviews. Even bought sausage to go from their market next door! When I'm hankering for some "Hunky" food...there is no place like Al's. They have THE BEST Slovenian and Hungarian sausage and their Halubky (stuffed cabbage rolls) is legit. I recommend the Sampler platter to first timer's because it gives you a chance to sample the majority of their offerings. (Stuffed Cabbage, Chicken Paprikas, Sausage and Pierogi) The portions are ample and the price can't be beat! Don't let the long line deter you...Definitely worth the wait and they move you through fast. Staff is great! Can eat in or take it to go! Be aware it's not on the corner and there isn't a sign, look for the name on the glass storefront window. Loved the buttery, perfectly textured mashed potatoes. Those potatoes are also in the cheesy perogies, yum! Dumplings are hands down the best I've ever had; buttery and perfectly textured, loved them in the paprikash and in the cabbage and dumplings. This is simple, no frills stick to your ribs Hungarian food that is dang good. The inside of the restaurant is the same- no frills and functional. You won't pay over $10 for a meal here (including AMAZING bread and a drink) and you'll get a pile of good hearty food for the price. The sampler is good so you can try a little of everything, but for me the cabbage and dumplings and chicken paprikash is where it's at. My husband always goes for the Hungarian sausage sandwich which he swears is the best around. Went here yesterday for lunch. I got the #2 lunch which consists of two cabbage rolls, one side (I got mashed potatoes), slice of bread, and a drink. The cabbage rolls were good. The meat was tender and the cabbage was cooked well. However, I didn't like the tomato sauce on the rolls. The taste reminds me of Chef Boyardee ravioli. It had a very bland, canned flavor. The mashed potatoes were good. The bread was my favorite part, fresh and homemade! YUM! I might go back just to try something else. I love this place. I work in the Barberton area and normally head here on Thursdays for lunch. I did some research for good places to dine in at and this placed showed up as a popular spot. First trip there, I had the sampler and thoroughly enjoyed it. I've never had Hungarian food before but I'm a fan of all the ingredients used. I don't think there's anything that I dislike. I'm a big fan of the sausages and cabbage rolls. The only thing I would like changed is more spice in the spicy sausages but I fully understand that not everyone can take the heat so it has to be kept at a minimum to please the crowd and not the individuals. Simple, and amazing. I had the Chicken Paprikas, and it was the best I've had since Gran passed over a decade ago. A mountain of great food for $7.50, drink included. You won't have room for desert, but get the cherry strudel anyway. I won't describe the location or interior as I see they're moving a few blocks away soon, but I will definitely go back and visit them in their new digs. This gem is the best kept secret in this area. When there, the line of locals is consistently about 10 people deep, but the line moves quickly. Each item is better than the next. We enjoyed our meals at Al's corner. Since this was our first time, we took someone's advice and ordered the sampler. We also had the pierogi lunch meal. If you go for the first time, get the sampler so that you get a little bit of everything. We also tried the regular and spicy sausage. Both were good but I'd probably stick to the spicy sausage next time. The pierogies were very good! We got lucky this time and we were not in any line when we came in. It looks like we just missed the crowd because as we were eating our meal, the line started to form. Today I was feeling cabbage and dumplings and a side salad The side salad.. could have been my lunch as was a nice size a little disappointed that when ordered Cabbage and Dumplings thought would get fair amnt of both not the case a lot of cabbage and a few dumpling pieces next time I will just order dumplings and have cabbage sauce on them. read more
