Came here two separate times for service…read more For the first time, I just replaced my brakes and rotors and might have introduced air into my brake lines so instead of bleeding my brakes and changing the fluid, I decided I'd come here instead. The service advisor was Angelo. He made sure I got taken care of as quickly as possible and despite forgetting to bring in my wheel lock, he was able to get the tech to bleed my brakes. The tech also said my brakes are fine but Angelo got him to check it again and bleed it anyways to get rid of any air. My brakes felt instantly better. Unfortunately, the reservoir was completely overfilled when I checked it so I had to go buy a syringe to remove some of the fluid myself. I also saw some fluid near the brake booster so I had to monitor it for leaks for the next couple days. This wasn't exactly the experience I expected. The second time I came in, I spoke to Angelo about getting my tire/tire valve looked at due to a flat tire. It was an hour before closing and he wanted to help but couldn't since most of the techs went home. He told me to return in the AM and he would get me helped asap. I did so the next day and he got my tire looked at, got the valve replaced, and I was good to go. It was a pretty painless experience this time. Shout out to Angelo because I was really expecting poor service but he did the best he could for me. He always kept me in the loop for what was going on while my car was in the bay.

AVOID THIS PEP BOYS LOCATION AT ALL COSTS!…read more I made an appointment for an oil change and tire rotation. When I got to the store, I had to reexplain what I wanted. I asked the clerk to replace my wiper fluid. He said they usually don't have any, but he'd see if there was some "lying around." The clerk told me that the service would take about an hour and a half. That was at around 9:40. I didn't get a message that the car was done until around 2:30. When I went to pick my car up they had somehow forgotten to do the tire rotation and I cooled my heels for another hour while they rectified that. They were supposed to replace my wiper blades, but SURPRISE! They didn't have any! I have an Outback, not a Lamborghini. There was a Manager's Special that would have saved me money but I only learned about it when I was about to pay my bill. By that time it was too late. They wasted half my day on all this nonsense. When I gave them a bad review on Google, the "owner" apologized, asked me for info they should already have on file, and told me they'd look into it. But offer a refund or even a coupon (not that I would ever go back)? Nope. They are careless, don't listen, and don't seem to care about the customer at all. With such incompetence, I'm worried they even didn't provide any of the services I paid for. No wonder they have so many bad reviews! AVOID, AVOID, AVOID!

Listen. LISTEN. If you are considering hiring this "mobile mechanic," please pause, take a deep…read morebreath, and maybe lie down, because what I'm about to describe is not for the faint of heart. This man rolled up to my driveway in a van that looked like it had already lost a fight with a tornado, a raccoon, and possibly its own sense of self-worth. He hopped out, spilled an entire soda, and said, "Don't worry, that happens." Sir. SIR. Why is that your greeting?? He opened my hood, nodded like he was understanding the secrets of the universe, then poked a totally random part and said, "Yep, that's your problem." When I asked what the problem was, he said and I quote, "Mechanic stuff." Thirty minutes later my car was making a new sound I can only describe as "haunted dishwasher screaming into the void." I asked him if that was normal and he said, "Cars make noises." Then he charged me an amount of money so offensive I think it might be a hate crime against my bank account. He drove away. My car died. In the same moment. Like they were spiritually connected and my car couldn't continue living after witnessing whatever he did to it. If you hire this man, may the automotive gods have mercy on your soul because he WILL NOT. i would give zero stars but, Yelp refuses to let me express the true depth of my suffering.

Basically we were side swiped. I put out a project on yelp asking for a mechanic. Dave messaged me…read moreand said he would come out that night to take a look. Hours go by and he never showed. Finally that morning he came by. Told us the issues and told us what parts to get. We paid him $250 to buy the parts and $200 in labor. Not only did he get junked parts but none of them were good. I asked him to at least refund us for the money we paid in the parts. So he stopped responding. DO NOT USE THIS MECHANIC. He took our car parts and sold them for cash and our car still isn't running. We've had to have another mechanic take a look and begin to work on the car. This was a very unpleasant experience I wish on no one.

Went in for a rough idle, which started after a high (but within spec) rev during downshift…read more Online research had indicated that it was likely a timing belt tooth slip at best, and at worst was valve or piston damage. I had been told on the phone by Schafer's that they had a diagnostic machine that could drill down to the exact cause of the error code. Not so. Their second level diagnostic, which would have cost over $200 except for a discount coupon I had received, did not diagnose the specific cause of the rough idle. They wanted to replace my entire EGR system and also fix a leaky valve cover, for a cost of over $2,000, just to start. They only gave all that a 50% chance of being the problem. The components in my EGR system are easy to test and do not require replacement if they are good. They listed a $241 charge for an EGR valve control solenoid, but my car's EGR valve is vacuum operated only, so I don't understand why that part was needed. The installation time was taken from "the book," and was hugely inflated over how much time is actually needed for this work, much of which I have done myself in the past. If a spark plug seal is bad, they should have been able to know which cylinder is misfiring from the diagnostic. When I asked for a pricing on a timing belt replacement, which they refused to do without the other work, their price was much, much higher than the estimate I received from a dealer. I previously had brake work done by Schafer's, which was unrelated to the current problem, and found their prices to be high for the work done, but lower than what Meinicke had wanted for the job. That led me to have confidence in Schafer's, but at this point I have lost that confidence.
