Dr. Zac Dodson was a life saver yesterday when we had to bring our little girl in for an emergency visit. I have owned dogs for over 30 years and seen lots of vets in many states. I felt like I was in very good hands and confident in his care and recommendations. He brought up things to consider that have never been mentioned by my current vet in NC. Trust me in that I always do extensive research before I go to any vet and will drive far for the right care. I was even further astonished to get the bill at the end of our comprehensive visit because of how reasonable it was. Alpine is fortunate to have Dr. Dodson. You can tell they truly care about the animals and their owners. On top of the excellent care, their prices were very fair and transparent. We were at Big Bend (2 hours from the nearest vet). My sweet little Maltese got really sick. Dr. Mary returned an after hours call to us and suggested treatment, then checked on him the next day. I ended up (a couple of days later) taking him in when he relapsed. I have never been so grateful for such kind and professional treatment. My only regret is that we don't live here and she can't be our full-time vet. Oliver loved the staff and I felt listened to. Dr. Mary explained everything to me making sure I had no questions. Both Dr. Zach and Dr. Mary are fantastic. Everyone on staff here is kind and helpful, and every pet and human is treated with great respect. The vets always explain the reasoning for specific treatments or recommendations, and I appreciate that they share this information with the patients' "parents." Staff are attuned to all of the emotions humans tend to experience when they take their furbaby to the doctor, and I think these folks do as well at taking care of people as they do animals. Now for the anecdotes! 1. Our dog has been a patient here for a couple of years and has received great routine care. He had an ear infection recently and the treatment is often given in-clinic so the doctor can make sure the eardrops make it in the ears. We live 100 miles away (welcome to west Texas!), so to help us avoid the inconvenience of a daily 4-hour round trip to the clinic the vet taught us how to administer the medicine and gave us advice on how to hold our wiggly, anxious dog so the medicine actually goes in. 2. We adopted a kitten found on the side of the road at 3 weeks old. She was in such bad shape when we brought her in I was afraid we'd be told there was nothing to be done. Not at all! She got excellent care, successful emergency surgery after she'd put on a few more ounces, and now we have a happy, healthy, feisty one-eyed road kitten. What this boils down to is we absolutely trust these doctors and feel very lucky to have them so close by (hey, 100 miles isn't bad out here). read more

It's always scarry to have to take our beloved pets to an unknown doctor. Far from home, traveling through in our RV our 22 year old cat becomes ill. This vet and staff got us in that very day. They were so kind and loving to my old girl. She showed no additional signs of stress after her appointment. The entire visit was caring and comfortable for both of us. If I was to live live in this area this office would be my choice of care. I feel fortunate to have been able to find such a caring facility so far from home. read more

The entire staff at Alpine are amazing. I am so grateful to them for helping my husband and I during one of the most traumatic experiences of our lives. We were traveling cross country with our 2 small terriers. It was the beginning of our 2 month road trip and while we were in Marfa, our eldest pup was attacked by a dog that was off leash at the grounds we were staying. It happened within seconds. My dog was on leash and I heard a cry that pierced my ears. It was our beloved Bu. Immediately grabbing my dog, I noticed his eye was damaged. Not knowing where to go for help and screaming for anyone to help us, we were directed to Alpine 30 minutes away from our camping spot. We jumped on the road and the team at Alpine talked us through our drive as our pup's eye was enlarging. Before this experience, we had near been to Marfa or Alpine so to have their guidance was life-saving. Once we arrived, their team was ready to assist. The damage was too deep and surgery was required. The veterinarian made arrangements for us to get immediate service in San Antonio about 7 hours away via car. Once we arrived in San Antonio, Alpine Small Animal Practice made sure all paperwork was there and that we were in good hands. They also followed up with us later that week for an update on our pup. He ended up losing his eye BUT he survived thanks to the team at Alpine. Alpine Small Animal Practice, if you are reading this, I can't thank you enough for saving my dog, who is my best friend and heart. My husband and I will forever be grateful. read more

Dr. Zach and Dr. Mary are both great. They saved our Boxer's life after she got attacked by a wild boar. They fit us in right away even though we were new to the area and didn't have an appointment. They were very kind and professional, even when I was an emotional wreck. They took great care of our beloved boxer and kept her overnight until it was safe to bring her home again. I am so grateful and wouldn't hesitate to bring my pets back in the future. read more

The vets and staff at ASAP are great. They answered questions I emailed after my cats appointment and helped him immediately when I came in (unscheduled) with an emergency. They've been kind, thoughtful, and responsive to my cat and I's needs. read more

While driving from Houston to Marfa last week, my 13 year old small dog began vomiting bile and defecating blood somewhere around Sonora, Texas. I called around Alpine and Fort Davis in a panic and only Alpine Small Animal Practice was able and/or willing to fit us in and they fit us in an hour later just as I pulled into Alpine. The staff and Dr. Mary Dobson could not have been more caring and accommodating. They quick examined and diagnosed my dog and within forty five minutes, 2 shots and 2 oral meds later, we were on our way to Marfa and for a far smaller bill that what I would have paid in Houston.
