Busy place in the AM. Bagels fresh and yummy. Art on the walls for sale. Simple alpine decore

Happening little spot for coffee and a bite to eat. I had a well-crafted cappuccino that tasted as good as it looked. The bagel sandwiches looked good too! Lots of locals stopping in made for a fun place to savor my cap as the snow started falling outside.

Borscht soup, served hot and chicken and Brie panini.

After a long morning of ski boot shopping my son and I stopped here for lunch at the recommendation of the ski shop owner. So glad we did! The vibe is laid back and the food prepared to order. Enjoyed a cup of hot coffee while putting up my (cold) feet and waiting on my soup and sandwich. Tried the Borscht soup, served hot instead of the traditional cold. My son had the zucchini soup. Both were unique and yummy!! The sandwiches we ordered were hot paninis. The portion generous, served hot and fresh! Both sandwiches were delicious and nutritious. Lunch here hit the spot. I highly recommend it.

Homemade granola with a side of yogurt and a matcha latte

This shop is great! My friends and I stopped by for some brunch and coffee before we drove back to the States, and I was really impressed by the quaint little shop. They have such great dishes, yummy baked goods, and well-crafted drinks. My pick of the day was homemade granola with a side of yogurt and a matcha latte. The matcha wasn't overly sweet, and it was a nice drink to start my day off. The homemade granola was also yummy. I love that they have bits of dried fruits in the granola. The thing that threw me off at first was that the yogurt was quite sour, but if you eat it with a granola it's a perfect blend of sweet and sour. If you're ever in town, definitely stop by here for a good cup of warm drink or some brunch!

The absolute slowest service I have ever had at a cafe. We ordered one bagel and it took over 25 minutes.

Very good coffee, if you like that sort of thing. Tasty baked goods both sweet and savoury available, delicious soups and good paninis.

The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge - Beef Tenderloin & Lobster

    The Velvet Restaurant and Lounge

I got here on a Sunday night and am currently staying at The Josie Hotel for 3 days. I was so…read moreimpressed with the quality of my dinner, I've been eating here for every meal. I know there are other restaurants in Rossland but having a fantastic restaurant literally 1 minute from your room makes life a lot easier. So far I've eaten 2 dinners and 1 breakfast meal here. I plan on eating at least 2 more meals here before I leave to go back to the United States. The first night, I had the roast beef special of the day, which was described to me as sliced roast beef with gravy by the bartender Savannah. She was fantastic, very friendly and welcoming. Upon receiving it, I realized it was prime rib, which made me more excited. It was served with brown gravy, broccolini, and carrots. The gravy was superb and added just the right saltiness to the prime rib. It was a nice cut with plenty of meat and a small amount of fat. The broccolini and carrots were cooked to the perfect tenderness. I did order a mocktail, the Ruby Fizz, because I wanted a tart drink. Grapefruit and lemon were the primary flavors and it was magnificently refreshing. The next morning, I opted for the more expensive breakfast buffet, which includes eggs, potatoes, sausage, pancakes, and bacon on top of the nice spread of fruits, pastries, yogurt, oatmeal, and fresh fruit. As far as breakfast buffets go, it has everything I needed to tide me over until dinner. For dinne on day 2, I went a bit indulgent after recommendations by my waitress Kate. Kate was amazing; attentive, knew the menu well, and very friendly. I started off with 2 bottles of some of the best Ginger Beer I've ever tasted. Strong ginger flavor with a spicy bite. The canoe cut of bone marrow was so rich and delicious on the lightly toasted pieces of sourdough. I even used extra prices to sop up the juices in the bone marrow. Last but not least, was a slice of beef tenderloin, lobster (which I added), wilted kale, and potato pavé. The kale was wonderful. I wish I had more of it. Lightly cooked with a nice salted finish. The potato pavé was something I've never seen before. Kate explained it was basically scalloped potatoes with a crispy shell. That too was crispy, yet tender and buttery. The lobster was cooked to perfection, tender and not tough or overcooked. It was lightly seasoned and for the first time in my life, I ate lobster without butter and I liked it. The beef tenderloin was cooked medium rare and was sitting on a bed of gravy. I'm sure it was the same gravy as the prime rib and I made sure to eat up every piece. I love The Velvet. It really is a wonderful place to eat and the food is superb. Everyone is nice and I've had back to back delicious dinners that I'll remember long after I leave here. Can't wait to eat here tomorrow.

It has a great theme with the wooden spoons everywhere, cool old tin panels in the ceiling as well as the burlap bags. You order at the counter, pay and get your numbered wooden spoons which you place in a glass milk carton at the table you choose while awaiting your food. There is plenty of brick inside the restaurant which is always something I like. The woman who took or order said that the owner had bought the place behind them and they were blowing out the wall in between the two establishments so the kitchen can service two places. Sounds good right? The problem we had was that the breakfasts we got were not hot, I mean barely warm. My sunny up eggs were barely done, still alot of clear in the whites. My two halves of toast were put together, butter to butter. The second pieces together for my entire meal I was going to put marmalade on after I had finished all but them. The butter had not even melted into the toast, it was still whole butter. Everything tasted quite good, but it has to be hot. We would certainly return, but it fell just short of the mark. Too bad!

He got the Tiger Spiced Chai, and I got the Honey Nut Latte. I will say my latte could have used a bit more flavor - it was a little bitter, but that could just be their bean blend. It was still pretty good though. Prices were also good! The atmosphere is very nice with the blend of rustic touch and modern features. Loved all the spoon decor.
