We were downtown on New Year's Day looking for something entertaining to do; 4 adults and 2 kids under 10. Enter Spare Me. They were open on NY Day when many other businesses weren't. We walked in around 12:30 and got a table smack dab next to the bar. Purchased some tokens and away we went for the next 4 hours. Skee Ball is always my #1, but I love all pinball machines. Suffice it to say, I was entertained. Couple that with a few Sour Cherry Ciders and I didn't want to leave. The venue was extremely clean. Tasty appetizers (they were only serving apps and pizzas while we were there) and pizza, funky holiday cocktail choices and extremely friendly staff. The guy tending bar said he had worked all day/night on NYE and the place was sold out from near open to close. You never would have known they were so busy because the place was immaculately clean. We didn't bowl, but it looked fun and all lanes were booked the whole time we were there. Lanes upstairs and downstairs. Restrooms are located outside the venue and they were pretty messy with no soap (at least the ladies). Parking is really close and free on the weekends. Spare Me offers brunch, so that piqued my interest. We definitely plan to come back. Great choice for groups big or small, date night, birthday, etc.

Blackhawk Bowl & Martini Lounge was a spontaneous stop during our time in Davenport, and it ended…read moreup being one of the most fun and unexpected highlights of the trip. We grabbed seats at the bar and started off with a round of drinks--Old Fashioneds and Martinis. Both were excellent. The bartenders here clearly take their craft seriously--my Old Fashioned was perfectly balanced, not too sweet, and the Martini (classic gin, of course) was ice cold with a clean finish. Definitely not your average bowling alley cocktails. The space itself is a great blend of upscale lounge and casual fun. It's stylish without being pretentious, with a cool retro vibe and a welcoming crowd. We didn't bowl this time, but the lanes looked great, and it's definitely on the list for the next visit. The overall vibe was perfect for a laid-back evening with colleagues--plenty of energy, good music, and room to unwind without feeling rushed or crowded. If you're in Davenport and looking for a spot that mixes craft cocktails with something a little out of the ordinary, Blackhawk Bowl is absolutely worth checking out. Next time, I'm bringing my bowling shoes.

Have you ever bowled a 9 EVERY. SINGLE. FRAME?!?!?…read more Yeah, me neither. I did every single frame but one, which was a strike. How maddening. Had I not gotten that one strike I would have been convinced that one pin was glued to the floor. LOL. My company holiday party was held here on a Saturday night and we had a blast. (Note: the lounge is only open Wednesday-Saturday evenings, starting at 4PM.) Things that were great-- - The entire vibe. It had cocktail tables throughout and was perfect for mixing and mingling with coworkers. - Shoes. They weren't old and gross! Always a win in my book. - The convenience of having it at the bottom of the hotel and being able to partake/enjoy then just head up the elevator for a good nights sleep. - Pricing for walk-ins seems ok, $5 a game, $4 for shoes. (But call ahead and make a reservation and pay per hour at $35-$45?) - Staff. The staff was super friendly and accommodating. A couple things that wasn't on par-- - The food. We did a pizza bar and it was nothing to write home about. - As other Yelpers have mentioned, the cocktails were not that good. After having one martini I opted for an Aperol Spritz... and the bartender was reading the recipe off the back of the bottle. A for effort. - We rented the entire space for about four hours and half the lanes were out of order randomly? Kind of a bummer. - No Big Ten Network! - Finally, there was a sign that there was a private event at the entrance of the lounge but it wasn't posted anywhere on social. There were multiple groups that were kind of bummed to have driven there and parked to just have to go home. Overall a super fun time. I think if they made a few tweaks (updates, menu changes, etc) this place would be amazing. Overall, Blackhawk Bowl & Martini Lounge is worth a try!

About every other time I go bowling at this bowling alley, my bowling lane tv screen (which counts points) messes up, but the people working always get it fixed fairly quickly. The Cedar Rapids Sports/Social Club hosts a lot of summer and winter events (including bowling).
