I left a really comprehensive review so I'm not sure why Yelp is asking again... but long story…read moreshort: 2 chihuahuas that were rescued from out of state - and complete terrors. After speaking with several training programs, visiting some, and prayerfully considering what the right choice should be Madi Potts helped make our choice easy. Before we would trust anyone with our little 7.5 lb boy, we had to get a sense of one's heart. My husband and I were not looking for someone who could simply "control dogs" or "make them obey commands". We wanted someone who had a heart for dogs to have better lives with structure, less fear, and longevity due to possibilities that came with what training offered. My first inquiry call with Madi was pretty long, if I recall right. She was patient, understanding of my many questions, and willing to talk as long as I needed to feel she was safe to go to next step with. We started with a 90 min at home training session to see first hand and understand how she would personally be as a trainer with Beans. That training was stressful and also a relief as we believed we found the right person to entrust our boy to. When the day came for him to be picked up, both my husband and I were crying. It wasn't just about trusting a new person to take care of Beans, it was also the resurfaced grief of losing our whippet girl of 11 years just a few months prior. The "what ifs" where overwhelming, but we agreed we were moving forward. Madi also saw our "anguish" if you want to call it that. She quickly said she typically doesn't give an update for the first 24-48 hours but she would update us that evening. To her word, we got a picture of beans at the park and our hearts settled a bit. Throughout the two weeks, Madi was wonderful about keeping us up to date and answering questions as needed or as we annoyed her (lol we might have been a little over the top haha) She never hesitated to share and ensure our boy was learning, and struggling in some areas, but overall doing great. Now that he is back with us, we have already had one of our follow up appointments and are so thankful Madi was who helped us with Beans. He was so happy to see her and made her say goodbye before leaving (even though he was supposed to "stay", lol). Training is still a ongoing work daily, Beans still doesn't love his crate but is accepting he is safe and it's ok to not see us 24/7 (Italian greyhounds are Velcro dogs to the max!) This was an emotional, time, and financial investment that we continue to place priority on. I know many will say do not board and train an Iggy, but for our family, giving him and us the tools to have a successful life together was important. We did our due diligence and don't regret our decision. Actually we are extremely grateful we found Madi and Suburban K9. When she left after our last follow up session she looked at Beans, gave him a scratch and said "I love you". I have no doubt she does, for that I am thankful. It is my hope everyone will find someone as knowledgeable and kind hearted toward an animals as Madi is. Thank you Suburban K9 for helping us learn puppy manners with Madi. We are forever grateful. They are my world. In all honesty, I was very unsure about the e-collar. That was a huge hurdle for me to jump, but I'm glad I did. One thing that helped was on the first day, when I dropped off Stella, my 3 year old rescue, Lab-Rottie mix, Nikita allowed me to feel what these collar felt like, on the palm of my hand . It wasn't at all what I had built up in my mind. It felt like a tens unit, that I've used for muscle tightness. Not painful, but an interruption to distraction, redirecting attention- is the best way I can describe it. From day one, results were nothing short of AMAZING. When I picked my dog up after her first day, I was in utter disbelief. I had a different dog from day one. My high energy girl, who would bark at people who said hello on the sidewalk, and bark and growl at other dogs, as well as pull me, came home with some manners. We've made major progress from each class. My dog who was afraid of everything, and had no confidence, is now "placing" on big rocks, tree stumps, anything that she can jump up on, at my command. And she sits or lays there, until I release her. People at the park are amazed, standing around watching MY (crazy) dog, and are complimenting me on what a "well trained dog she is." () A week before we started training, I was cussed out by a man, because my dog barked at him, which made her bark at him even more... it's hard to believe that this is the same dog. You have to do your part at home, reinforcing the work from your trainer. But, it's not hard, as you go about living daily life, you tweak little things and do things a tiny bit different, and voala! You have an incredibly mannerly dog! Sit Mean Sit is a solid program. The owners at Madison, WI are great folks, and their own dogs are often there too. Their communication is second to none, as is the trainer's. Our Trainer, Brenna is OUTSTANDING! Many times, she has reminded me to text her if I have any issues! She means it. And I have. They work through things with you and your dog- you're not alone, and there's phenomenal support. My confidence has grown too. I'm being trained along with my dog. Our walks are enjoyable and even fun now! It's like playing par-core! Whatever raised surface we find to "place" on, we do! She loves it! I love it! Now, I'm excited to grow her skills even more! She has so much potential that never would have been tapped into! I plan to continue training my dog in new skills, and take her to refresher classes, group classes, whatever I can do to help her realize her very best potential!

We've been working with Jessie at Mindful Methods Companion Coaching for awhile through our rescue group, and she has been an incredible resource for our dogs. (especially the ones who need extra patience and creative thinking) She gave us a lot of dog/child safety tips as well as spent a lot of time patiently educating us about the various levels of behavior issues involving aggression. Right now she's working with one of our recently adopted dogs, Lumi, a blind puppy who resource guards when he gets overstimulated. He uses objects in his mouth (socks or paper towel, or whatever he finds) almost like a way to self-soothe. He will growl and snap if someone tries to take the item from him. Instead of addressing that with force or correction, Jessie is teaching his adopter to slow down, use high-value treats to redirect, and build trust rather than conflict. What really struck me was the guidance she gave around working with a blind dog specifically. She taught the adopter to tap their toes on the floor as Lumi approaches so he can hear where they are and doesn't bump into them. It's such a small thing, but it shows how thoughtfully she meets each dog where they actually are. Jessie offers virtual sessions and digital download classes, which has made her accessible to our fosters and their adopters regardless of location. If you have a fearful, anxious, or complex dog, I can't recommend her enough.

When Janice was in the class, I was super impressed. And, she works with the Chicago Court Case Dog Program...so awesome! Okay, long story? Here goes: I have wanted a dog for a long time. At my friend's graduation party last year, she recommended that I contact Megan. Megan acted as a dog head hunter for my friend. Wait...that reads/sounds bad. Lemme rephrase: Megan hunted a dog down for my frie...wait. Megan searched for a dog for my friend (okay, better). My friend said that Megan would do the same for me and, dang it, she did! Interestingly enough, she found the perfect dog for me the same day that I adopted the most perfect dog for me! Even more interestingly enough, Megan trained the dog that she originally found for me and my dog. ANNNNDDD, my dog and the other dog are now in the same walking group! It's like 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon, but for dogs! In almost serious, I tell that story to point out that Megan is dedicated to connecting people and dogs so that all parties are happy as clams! Oh! Megan is also a great trainer. She is very attentive to the pups and the people. I think dog training is not only about training the dog, but also - and potentially more importantly - it is about training the people. Since we were learning so many skills each class, she gave us homework sheets so that we could practice the way she taught us in class. If we had questions, we could ask her pretty much at any time. She is also amazingly available on email. I mean, I have sent her frantic emails at 12a asking why the hell my dog won't walk, what type of harness goes with what type of dog seatbelt, why does she insist on chewing the wood in the apartment versus the thousands of chewies I bought, so on and so forth, and she has emailed me back within the hour or by 7a the next morning (disclaimer: she might not do that all of the time, but I was impressed when she did it for me). Overall, I heart Megan and Dog Behavior Solutions. I would be lost without them...in fact, I am about to break into song about my heart-ing of these folks and the way they care about dogs...*nods to Robin Thicke, clears throat* I'm lost without you Can't train my dog Why won't she siiiiit?
