I did a Google search to find a doctor nearby and found Dr. Mehfoud. When I went into the office, the staff was friendly and sociable, and the other patients seemed to enjoy the office as well. After a very short wait, I was sent back to the doctor. Most of the time, when you go to see a doctor, you end up waiting in the waiting room forever, then they send you back to the room, where you end up waiting a lot longer. Dr. Mehfoud was in the room within ten minutes, and instead of making me feel rushed or like he was in a hurry, he was very thorough and asked a wide range of questions to diagnose. I appreciated his manner and thought he did a great job of discussing treatment options with me. He is a wonderful doctor and really seemed to care about his patients. I will be keeping him as a PCP!

Advance Care LLC must be one of Richmond's best kept secrets…read more Two words: House Calls Recovering from surgery, my PCP was unable to give me proper aftercare, so they arranged for Advance Care to contact me and set up house calls (actually to my hotel room). Over a period of approximately 30 days, I was visited by a RN about a dozen times to tend to my needs. Nurses visiting me were Meg, Amy, Missy, Danni, and Debbie. Each was professional and personable. One nurse who visited me 2 or 3 times had a strong John Rolfe redolence on her first visit; not noticeable on subsequent visits. But the care she gave was first rate, same for the other nurses. And the best part was that Medicare covered all expenses. :) I believe they offer more services than just house calls, so I anticipate contacting this week to see if they can/will serve as my PCP.

I found it very unprofessional and simply cruel. Never again would I use or recommend this company. I have had to use hospice care for loved ones before this and never been treated with such disrespect.

I am a single parent, and am the only adult able to handle these appointments for them. Due to reasons beyond my control, I was hospitalized the night before their first appointment. I called the number on their website ALL morning from my hospital bed. I finally had to send a contact request, as I was unable to get someone on the phone with the telephone number they had online. I finally spoke to "Tracy" who responded to my contact request through their online portal. She advised me that they were dismissing my children from the practice because of the "no call no show"?? I don't know how doctors work in Virginia, but it truly shocked me how unprofessional and negligent the lady/person was on the phone was. I'm glad they dismissed my children, as I would not want anyone in that practice near my kids. I hope you heed the same and save yourself this headache. Now I get to stress about finding another pediatrician from the emergency room. Good job pediatric associates. You got yourself a star employee.

These are probably the most important considerations. However, their office isn't really wheelchair accessible. Although they have a ramp built it is difficult to use with a manual wheelchair. From the very first appointment they were thorough, kind and informative. I was there weekly from Feb 2024-Feb 2025 for Speech and Occupational therapy. It was hard work, and I wasn't sure if I would function in a normal life again, but they worked hard with me and now I can do the things I was doing before. They altered a lot of material, and even came up with new material for me to specifically target my symptoms and my unique mental processing. I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for CNS. I highly recommend them. Lisa Morrow- Virginia Beach, VA

From 2004-2006 another local neurologist was treating my daily migraines and many other symptoms from the (as of that time undiagnosed) permanent brain injury that I received in the dog attack. This other neurologist's ONLY treatment for me was Vicodin, which was not helping me, it was only making it worse. He did not listen to me nor do an MRI. At the time that I first went to CNS I was barely able to speak in full sentences. Each morning would start with me being sick, from waking up with a migraine, so I could not be around bright lights w/o extreme pain in my head. I had a severe balance problem causing me to fall down three flights of stairs fracturing my spine in several places. I could go on, but you probably get the picture. Dr. O'Shanick listened to me. He properly diagnosed me and helped me with O.T., Speech Therapy, got me off of the Vicodin and on proper migraine therapy. After two years of daily migraines and not wanting to leave the darkness in my home, I finally started to function again! I could remember words when I would have a conversation with my kids. The migraines slowly went away, thank the Lord! I stopped falling, learning how to deal with my balance being 'off'. In short, thanks to Dr. O'Shanick, I actually feel 'human' again. That can only be understood by someone who has suffered a brain injury. I do still have ringing in my ears, but unfortunately that is permanent. And hey, considering how bad I was, I'm doing pretty great! And I give all the credit to Dr. O'Shanick and his staff. Martinea Mease

My mother who suffered from dementia needed a special residential facility and we chose Southerland…read morePlace because they do a good sales job and have ONE good nurse. Beware. This facility paid very little attention to my mother. Her personal items were stolen from her room. She had very few activities to participate in (as compared with Arden Courts in Northern Virginia). Granted, this place cost a lot less than Arden Courts, but they do not do what they advertise. In addition to what I felt was a sad lack of interaction, when my mother became gravely ill, the staff at Southerland Place didn't call me. The first I heard was from the hospital where she was taken, and by that time several hours had passed and it was too late. My mother died alone because this facility didn't take the time, or care enough, to contact my family. Then, after she had passed away, we had another battle with moving furniture out of her room and they continued to bill us AND BILL LATE CHARGES AFTER SHE WAS DEAD. In fact, I just received an additional invoice for personal services 4 months after she died. Really, unless this is close to your home and you are able to visit several times a week, I would not choose this facility, nor would I recommend it. And if you should go and visit and think the staff is nice, do yourself a favor and go onto the internet onto whistle blower websites and read about the management. Not a good situation.

My family's experience has been much different than Pamela H. I do know that they have a new…read moreexecutive director since Pamela made her review. Below is the review I made under Southerland Place - Midlothian. In searching for an assisted living facility the task was difficult and stressful. I had my mind set on one place due to its location and reputation, but felt I owed it to my loved one to do my due diligence and visit all of the places close by. When I went to Southerland Place and toured the facility I knew this was the place. Their executive director, Sam Stoddard, took time to walk down the hall to say hello and make sure someone was helping me. Later as I talked with him, I could tell he was a man of integrity and cared about his residents. Then I met Courtney, their sales manager, she has a great personality and knew all of the residents by name. As I toured, I tried to watch how the staff interacted with the residents and was impressed with love they showed to each individual. We had lunch with the managing staff and really enjoyed the food and company. They even let the residents help with planning the menu as the chef came out during lunch to discuss options for the next week. Larry and Rena deal with the assessment and all nursing type stuff. They listened and treated my loved one with respect. Nancy, the business manager, has been a great help with getting the proper paperwork needed for long term care insurance. Her door is always open, if you have any questions. When we moved in Sam and Ronnie helped with the move. Ronnie is the manager of maintenance and is quick to help you with any request you may have. It has been 2 months since my loved one moved in and they love the place. The family has seen a big improvement in our loved one mental and physical state. The activities are great! They have had a Senior Prom, Bingo, Card games and other things to stimulate the minds of their residence. At lunch the staff came in and provided entertainment by hula hooping and even Sam got in there and gave it try. My loved one laughed and still gets a chuckle when thinking about it. One last thing that has impressed me is when I see Courtney she always ask how we are liking the place and if there is anything that the Southerland Place can do to make it a better place. I like this because it shows that they are always trying to improve the place. If you are in need of an assisted living facility I strongly recommend The Southerland Place.

(Note: office visit was earlier in the year, but had not finished the post)…read more My husband had an early appointment but was having difficulty finding the office. Starting at 8:40 a.m., I tried calling the office but it went to the physicians answering service. I tried again, and it did the same thing. We finally located the office building, and arrived at 8:55 a.m. After my husband checked in, I told an older lady, who was the receptionist, about trying to call and having it go to the answering service. First, she said that they had been receiving calls that morning. Then she looked at the phone. She actually laughed and said "I guess we forgot to switch the phones back from the answering service - that happens sometimes." Another employee walked into her area and she was laughing telling her about "forgetting to turn the phones back on." I mentioned to her that they need to be more careful in the future and she apologized. I do not think she handled this situation professionally, and it definitely didn't seem to be a concern of hers, even though it was an inconvenience for the patient and their family. I would recommend the person in charge of this office stress to the receptionists about the importance of the phone system and how a person with an appointment might not think it's a laughing matter to be inconvenienced.

I was forced by the county to use their doctors at this office legally after a bout of depression…read moreled to me going into a nearby hospital. I kept them as my doctors for far too long, a few years, out of convenience. I have been mistreated terribly there. I had 5 different doctors in 3 years (they all quit because the place sucks). They have repeatedly been very late for appointments and they don't apologize when they're late. They have randomly made me quit multiple medications cold turkey, and they lacked empathy when I explained how terrible it made me feel. during the process of making me quit a med cold turkey, my doctor prescribed another medication that induced mania. she tried to blame the drug-induced mania on me instead of accepting the fact that she was altering my brain chemistry and messed up! Oh, and I had been suffering from the mania for 3 days without a call back from the doctor's office despite me calling their emergency line to make sure I can stop taking the medication that made me feel manic... Flash forward a couple of months. I just moved across the country to California. I missed my last appointment with Henrico Mental Health due to having to move to another state because of a family emergency. I still have my info on file and the CVS near me said she just has to send the refills to my Richmond CVS and they can send them to a CVS in another state... Dr. Malloy then started saying she wasn't sure my meds are the right ones for me.. despite not asking me how I was feeling mentally, etc. Previously, when I've inquired about med changes, Dr. Jessica Malloy has stated that she believes they are the only thing "keeping me stable..." then She went on to say they're not the right ones for me while we were in the phone so that she can save herself the hassle of having to call in a refill for me. A doctor should NEVER do things like this out of spite for a missed appointment. My experience with this place has been absolutely horrible and I have suffered PTSD from them over the years from multiple incidents. I'm done. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Grade: F

They have been fantastic. They spoke with my husband for the initial phone interview and sent us paperwork to complete before our initial appointment. We had an appointment for 9 AM and were met pretty quickly. We met with the coordinator (Katy) and with the PT (Katie) and OT (Anne) for evaluation. They were friendly, informative, and very professional. They each talked about the steps/process that they were about to do and what they were looking for. They informed me on what to look out for and what their suggestions were. At the end of the evaluation, Katie - the coordinator, talked about the plan that we were going to do, the steps that will happen, and the payments. VERY professional and helpful with all the questions that I had. This showed that they had the best interest for my little one and to have him on track with his development. It hasn't even been more than 3 days and they have been able to follow up with us on my son's upcoming schedule for his therapy sessions. We decided to do the therapy session at either my son's daycare or home so that it is part of his daily routines. This whole process was first hard to digest, but the people here made me, as a first time parent, feel more at ease with the plans and expectations. I look forward to seeing how the OT and PT goes and how we can help my son get back on track.
