I've had my child enrolled in the 18 month-3 year old class for the past year. Today, she was only…read moreallowed to participate in about 45% of the class because I was told- right before class started that she would need to stay in the lobby during group instruction. This should have been communicated ahead of time by phone or voicemail, not sprung on us in front of other parents and children. My child sometimes has developmentally normal tantrums when she doesn't want to participate in activities, which is expected for her age. Other children in the class also don't participate and continue to play during instructions, which only made it harder for my child to engage. My child was essentially expelled under the guise a constructive dismissal. I wasn't even given the courtesy of a quick refund. Instead, I sat in the lobby for an extended period, waiting to even be acknowledged. My daughter was upset watching all the other kids go into class without her, and I was left feeling humiliated and frustrated. I paid for her to be included in the full class, and the way this was handled was unprofessional, poorly communicated, and inconsiderate to both my child and myself.

EDITED. After leaving this review on Google. They proceeded to call us multiple times and then…read morecalled my husband telling him "better watch your tone" and then threatening to call his place of work for the one star review. I HATE leaving bad reviews and Would have changed my review after receiving our money back for the class, but after calling us so many times and trying to call my husbands job over a bad review? This will stay. My son started at the three year old class. The teacher (Natalie), gave them a circuit and expected them to be able to remember it. After completing one thing, He would go to the next (As a circuit works). I guess that was seen as not listening to them. Which I could not hear what was said and maybe they were told not to go on. In no way am I saying that my son wasn't at fault. However, I do find it ridiculous that He was sent out to sit with us five minutes before the class was up. I was a ballet dancer for sixteen years performing in major productions and studying in college. Many of those years included teaching. There's no reason there should be one teacher to several itty bittys. You cannot expect them to learn an entire circuit and stay in one place for a long period of time. My husband is an NAIA cheerleading champion and he will be the first to tell you that the older kids that SHOULD be tumbling- aren't. They are barely able to cartwheel. Technique is so important! Especially in sports like this. No technique can lead to broken bones. If you read their staff wall, you will see that there are no real credentials other than "they've been doing this a long time". If you want your kids to be good at gymnastics, please send them somewhere where they can learn technique and teachers know how to teach.

Bart Conner Gymnastics Academy - My daughters were involved with BCGA's girls AAU Xcel team for 5 years... Don't expect them to care if you have concerns.

My daughters have been involved with BCGA's girls AAU Xcel team for 5 years and after the second…read moreyear it became a revolving door of coaches, so the girls on the team haven't had any stability in the realm of coaching for the last 3 seasons. Well, this year the coaches they brought in hit an all-time low, to the point they sucked all of the love of the sport out of my daughter that has loved doing gymnastics with her teammates for years now. I emailed the main coach (the guy in charge of the 3 coaches for the AAU Xcel team) 5 times between January and April 14th with little to no responses from him. Our daughter and the rest of the team were told that they needed to come up with their own beam routines, while the coaches didn't even make sure all the skills that they needed for the event were in their routines. Many of the girls completely bombed the beam event at their first meet (which was at BCGA), then the coaches got angry at the team for not doing well at the event. The two female coaches they had this year consistently looked for any excuse they could find to cancel practice, when practice wasn't cancelled, they didn't work on developing or fine-tuning the girls' skills instead they worked on breaking down the girls' spirits by calling them pathetic and getting in their faces at the drop of a hat. The one male coach the team had was the best at developing the girls' skills, but he thought it was appropriate talk to them about their periods and had other inappropriate behaviors. He was removed from the gym after an incident with another team, so that it the caliber of people that this organization feels is okay to hire to train your kids. If you want your girls to enjoy gymnastics, then find another gym. My daughters have both quit gymnastics now and it is in no small part due to the way this gym is being run. Again, I emailed the main coach (the guy in charge of the 3 coaches for the AAU Xcel team) 5 times between January and April 14th with little to no responses from him. So, after getting tired of my daughter being upset to the point of tears after 90% of her practices, I addressed the coaches myself. I will admit that I could've been more tactful when I approached the coaches, but here is what I said to the team's "head coach." I said, "Since you want to talk about the team being pathetic in front of the girls, you should know that the performance of the team is a reflection of their coaches," I then said, "You're a shit coach." After that the other coach scoffed and I left the gym. They then kicked my daughter off the team because of me addressing the coaches, and they said she was lying about everything despite several of the other girls talking with her on the phone about the things the coaches have been saying to them and how it's making them feel. I do wish I would've approached this situation differently, but due to an overwhelming amount of frustration at both the coaches and senior staff of BCGA, I addressed the problem that they were not handling. This organization does not care about the well-being of your girls or even that they are developing their gymnastics skills, all of that went out the door a long time ago. Your AAU girls are just numbers and paychecks for this place. This is not to say anything against Bart Conner himself, because he is not involved with most of the day-to-day work going on at the gym. The few interactions I have had with him have been pleasant and he seems like a very down-to-earth kind of guy. However, the people running the gym are dragging his name through the mud.

It was a great experience. My kid learn a lot and improved his strength and communication skills. He tried himself in professional sports. And we are grateful to all the people who have supported us during this time. For parents who only starting to step up into gymnastics, I recommend planning it in advance. Usually, classes are full, and it is difficult to find a free spot for your kid.
