I feel so strongly about the recent posts about the Resource Center, that I just had to post. I…read moredon't want to add my opinion yet, because that doesn't matter really. What matters are facts that can help us and change the course of a life; ours or someone else's. I do not believe scare tactics are a good way to change someone, they don't, and any specific agenda can be scrutinized and found out as truth of false. Hope we're in agreement here. Most people like to be healthy and proactive about having a great life and I'm no different; I ride my bike whenever possible and try not to eat too many sweets... but when I did my research on STD's, and found that non religious places like The CDC (Center for Disease control) https://www.cdc.gov/std/prevention/default.htm and The Mayo Clinic https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/sexual-health/in-depth/teens-and-sex/art-20045927 the sites listed here will take you to the the pages that state that to prevent STD's, you must abstain from sex. So, if a Government site and The famous Mayo clinic says to abstain, and they are not religious organizations, I must conclude that: any responsible health clinic should do the same. Here's a CDC fact PDF: https://www.cdc.gov/nchhstp/newsroom/docs/factsheets/std-trends-508.pdf
Do you have any idea why Planned Parenthood also says to abstain from sex to prevent STD's ? https://www.plannedparenthood.org/search/?q=abstain , because it's the only 100% way NOT to get an STD. Condoms are not 100% (another fact)
There are over 120 STD's, 4 of them are viruses, 3 of those will kill you for certain. I don't think the center is placing judgement on anyone, they are just responsibly stating the facts. So, why am I writing this? Because, I've had loved ones suffer and yes, die, from STD's , and some of these posts are stating that not only is this Resource Center wrong for "preaching abstinence" and the facts about STD's they are also saying that The Mayo Clinic and The CDC and planned Parenthood are wrong too. However, I did my research, and I am correct about it.
Now, it's time for my opinion: I think we women should take care of ourselves. Getting tested is a good idea always, but, once you have an STD, like Hep B or C, HIV, HPV, or Herpes, what will you do? I'll tell you what you will do: you'll live with it, until you won't. I wish someone would have given me this advice: abstain. No one told me, but, I will tell you: Abstain. And if you want to roll the dice like I did, get tested.
I feel strongly about any group, no matter the affiliation, that will offer MD's, RN's, counseling and free STD (not to mention, Pregnancy Testing, Ultra sounds, and Labor and delivery classes, all for free) testing should be applauded and supported.
