Her room was always unkept. Her sheets were dirty and one time she had no top sheet on her bed at all. Physical therapy called me to talk about treating her Parkinsons (which she did not have)!!! It would take about 3 calls just to get a reply from anyone at the office. I would NOT recommend this facility.

He was diagnosed with both vascular dementia and Alzheimer's in 2015, and eventually he needed more care than I could provide for him at home. They kept him clean and dry and well taken care of. Everything is done on a schedule here, and it's a good thing because the residents all know when meals & snack times are. They get changed on a schedule (and sometimes someone needs an extra change) and they keep a list of the residents for each changing time so no one gets missed. The facility smells clean and looks clean all the time. They have a dining room with fresh cooked meals for every meal, no prepackaged or microwave stuff. They have doctors, nurses, podiatrists, physical therapists, and hair dressers etc all come in, so the stress of taking him for appointments was gone. I didn't have to bring anything except for clothes and toiletries, they washed and/or provided everything else. The main "living room" on the first floor is used during the day for activities, and it has big windows and comfortable chairs for visiting in. Or you can visit on the covered back patio that has ceiling fans so it doesn't get too hot. The building has a backup generator, hurricane windows and is a hurricane shelter. I signed a paper that said he could stay there during hurricanes, which gave me peace of mind too. They have a fire sprinkler system in the whole building and fire extinguishers are easily seen on every wall. They are set up for 45 residents, and each attendant/caregiver has 4-5 residents to take care during the day, so everyone has help. Everyone knew my husband's name, which was a big deal to me. I wanted him to be treated as a person until the end, and he was. The monthly price was all-inclusive, so no added surprises. They billed medicare for his meds and doctor visits, so I didn't even have to do that. All I did was visit him, bring snacks, and sit and talk with him. Having him live at Mi Casa was a great decision!

As a healthcare professional, I understand how these environments work. Rehab centers are not hotels. They are clinical settings caring for people who are often very sick, sometimes incontinent, and recovering from major medical events. Some reviewers seem to misunderstand that. Yes, you may occasionally smell something unpleasant, but that is part of the nature of this level of care. What matters is that the staff respond quickly, and at St. John's, they do. I also noticed several complaints online about the food. What many people don't realize is that meals in rehab facilities follow medical diets, safety guidelines, and physician orders. If something isn't working for a patient, the dietitian is available to discuss alternatives, adjust preferences, and help find options that meet both nutritional needs and personal tastes. Complaints about food are understandable, but they are also easily addressed if you communicate with the team. The nurses, aides, therapists, and administrators have been consistently kind, respectful, and attentive. Any time I approached them with a question or concern, they addressed it. They cared for my mother after a serious lung infection and helped her regain her strength through their excellent PT and OT department. She left functioning close to her baseline, which is a testament to how hard the rehab team worked. My father is now recovering here after a hip fracture, and the rehab team has been just as dedicated. Pushing him appropriately, aligning goals with me, and keeping his recovery on track. I owe a lot to St. John's. If you choose this facility, stay engaged, communicate openly, and set realistic expectations for your loved one's recovery. My family's experience has been nothing but positive, and I'm truly grateful.

My mother was recovering from major surgery and was nowhere near ready to function independently, yet there appeared to be far more urgency around getting her discharged than ensuring she could do so safely. The lack of communication, accountability, and compassion was staggering. Family concerns were treated as inconveniences rather than legitimate questions about a vulnerable patient's well-being. Instead of feeling supported during a difficult recovery, we felt forced into a constant battle to obtain information and advocate for care that should have been provided without argument. A rehabilitation facility exists to help patients recover, not to treat them like items moving through an assembly line. When a patient cannot safely stand, transfer, or care for themselves, pushing for discharge raises serious questions about whose interests are actually being served. I would strongly encourage families to ask hard questions, document everything, and not assume this facility is acting in their loved one's best interests. Our experience was frustrating, stressful, and, frankly, unacceptable.

They do have an activity full of different interests for their residents. - so if you want a tour they can facilitate that as well. They do have something open to the community. - once a week if you are dealing with a family who has memory issues, you can go to a support group here. That's a big bonus for people. The type of food being given be it breakfast or dinner should be monitored half of the time the vegetables is totally dente, some of the meat is uncuttable, I dont understand why would you give ham or turkey meat then give a butter knife for it to be cut, you would think they would pre slice the meat for the residence who have difficulties with the strength in their hands. Parking is $8 a day. You can get your parking pass validated at some clinics and pay $3 instead. Parking garage connect to bldg. Food court restaurants located rigjt next to bldg. Walking distance. UM shuttle stops right in front for easy access around campus.

There is a system and it flows to a T. The door to the facility promptly open at 6am. I filled out my paperwork, paid the co-pay and was told to wait for a nurse to get me. Bring a small blanket because it is very cold. First round I wore my shoes and second round I went in my stocking feet. Reason for not wearing shoes was because when they lay you back, it felt uncomfortable with my shoes. Others said it feels like an assembly line. For me it felt like a car wash. Everyone was wonderful. Even though I had a blanket, they put a warm blanket on top of me. Both times there were 2 other patients waiting to go next. I was given multiple eye drops. The first time it felt like I was being water boarded and the second time the nurse slowly counted each drop. I had a terrific anesthesiologist who made darn sure that he supplied me with a great cocktail and nausea medication. When the procedure was over, I skipped the drinks and snacks and couldn't wait to get home to check out my new eyesight. Hope I can put anyone to rest if they are apprehensive about the surgery. The only agony is waiting for the other people to get done. Once those doors open, you are wheeled into the operating room and things move fast. This is when you should take some time to watch the show. To be able to see different unexplainable images without any pain was remarkable. Hearing the doctor say, "Perfect!" Put the shine on this old girl's eyes.
