Fortunately, I rarely write reviews that require one star or that provide advice that a service or company has failed to meet or come close to their service promise, unfortunately, Alpenrose's delivery service has earned this distinction. After two attempts, at becoming a home delivery customer, I am left to believe that they have not completely thought through what is required to execute their strategy in this portion of the consumer market. As a longtime Alpenrose customer and supporter, we were excited to participate and support the company in their efforts when approached online and at a recent promotional event. After this experience, the brand and our fondness for this local business have been impacted. I hope they figure out their process, customer service and execution in the future. For now, it is wrought with frustration, unmet expectations and a lack of creativity in finding solutions that work. read more

For people looking at reviews because you may be considering to work here, allow me to give my personal experience with management: Great job, disgusting management Examples of mistreatment: New years, 2024: Route manager Mike M. grieved me every day of the snow storm demanding that I still show up after I've voiced to him dozens of times that if a snow or ice storm hits, due to the elevation I live at, it will make things more worse and harder to manage, completely shrugged off my concerns and still demanded I try to get into work. Uber wouldn't pick me up because they black zoned my area. I was without power and unable to shower for 4 days and unable to even make any real meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Mike shrugged it all off. Mike found me a ride and then an hour later, canceled that ride and told me the snow and ice was melting (he was in Mexico, not living the experience we all were while saying this to me) and told me to make it in by any means necessary. Sent photos of my car and road with its 3 inch thick sheet of ice trapping my car in, and the wheels that had an inch of ice around them that bonded them to the road. Still expected me to make it in with no concern for my safety even though he bullshited all of us saying "you're safety is our number one priority"when speaking to all the drivers in the group chat. February 2nd: had my first review with Mike, all he had was nit picks and issues, proceeds to say "I shouldn't tell you this, but Igor is doing better then you" (even though Igor usually shows back up at the diary after me) which basically demeaned me on the spot, any thing he had to say, I had a reason for it and he snapped at me saying to stop rebuttaling and making excuses when all I was doing was giving him things from my perspective since I'm the one that lived the day/experience. Also made a request for him to check into who complained about not getting their stuff in their box so I can rectify making that mistake again, reminded him several times through the week, he never got back to me about it. February 9th: one week after my review, Mike apparently expected me to be at his standards and was demanding everything from me like not working OT to sending him all these photos of my comeback. February 12th 2024: one of the drivers truck battery died, and like always, Mike makes me the one to shoulder the burden and deal with the inconvenience of it. Trucks E-brake was beeping for my full shift, Mike said he would reach out to a mechanic and get back to me. Never got back to me, like always. I told Mike I'm tired of being the one to shoulder all the inconveniences when it comes to getting the short end of the stick, he completely blew off what I said and changed the topic back to the tablet not working (it was resetting so I took the time to voice my frustration with being the burden barer) The dashboard was also not working, Mike said any speeding violations won't be held against me and I'm sure he will still try to hold them against me as he's done before. Counts my milk and eggs in the morning because the pickers keep overstocking me, Mike kept trying to imply that it's my fault, but I count all the comeback accurately every day with some small hiccups here and there. Keeps asking for photos of my comeback after I submit end of day report like he doesn't trust me to count right. 95% sure he doesn't hound the other drivers this much. March 1st: after getting back to the dairy and before unloading my truck, I went and put my tablet back in Mikes office and had a small chat with him, after talking to him I went about the rest of my day unloading the truck before clocking out. Once done, I went to go clock out and after doing so, I always check my timesheet on the app, and it had conflicting clock outs. The one I had just done, and one that was manually put in by "someone" (99% sure it was mike) which the time of that reflected the time I had finished talking to Mike. Mike has been on my case about not going into overtime. So I believe he clocked me out on his own accord so he could keep me away from my 40 hours. I took a $400 monthly pay cut and 2 faced Mike tried telling me it was a raise. F**k you straight into the ground Mike enjoy giving Todd that 24/7 reach around. Many more instances but I think you get the idea. HR is also a complete joke, doesn't do anything an HR rep should do. The entire office work force are all incompetent fools. I was really happy to have the essentials delivered to my house. Unfortunately because of a different turn of events, I had to cancel the service. And that's where the issues started. I spent time and time online to find a place to cancel my subscription or at least put it on hold, none are an option. As previous people have mentioned, you have to call. Well, I don't have the time to call to cancel the service during their hours! As I was waiting to resolve this issue, I skipped the deliveries online. But then I forgot to skip and they delivered milk and eggs but I was not informed. My neighbor's dog came and was sniffing the box so I opened it to find milk and eggs from a while back. And it all went straight to the trash. I sent a few emails to kindly request for my service to be canceled and they won't. I am sorry but this is clearly poor customer service. If I had been able to put my account on hold (again impossible on the site) I might have come back to it. The entire planning of what will be delivered, what is not available, and what needs to be substituted is just too much. At this point, it's easier to run to the store. read more

This review is for the Alpenrose Delivery service. I'm on my third delivery and items have been missing from the last two. I have to compare what was delivered to what's on the order every time and manually request refunds for what was not delivered. I contacted customer service an hour after the latest delivery was dropped off. I stated that one item was not delivered. They replied that it was not delivered because it was discontinued and therefore wasn't on my order but would I like to substitute another product they suggested? The product they suggested was they one that was not delivered! So, I figure they never even looked at my order before saying it was discontinued. I had to send them a copy of the order that they sent me, circling the missing product which WAS on the order to get a refund. It's taking me more time to reconcile my delivery orders than it would take to just go pick up what I want at Safeway. read more

This review is for the Alpenrose delivery. I was so hopeful about this service, given the wonderful Alpenrose name, but am sadly disappointed and, after only 2 weeks, have cancelled. The ordering process is confusing (choosing the every other week option really means every week, unless I go in and mark skip on their pre-projected delivery dates). An item marked for regular delivery gets postponed but an item added last minute becomes a priority. Customer service amounts to scripted e-mails and, if you are able to speak with a human, scripted phone conversation. Expect to be told that YOU misunderstood their process. No middle ground. This IS NOT the kind of offering I would consider a service. read more

So our experience with Alpenrose delivery.... We were referred by a friend, we have previously been using Milkrun and never had any trouble with them (they are WONDERFUL) we just wanted to change up our selection a bit and try some new items. We signed up and get an email saying they will send us another email when our order is confirmed showing our new scheduled delivery date. 3 days later I get an email saying our order is confirmed.... with a "pending" delivery date, nothing actually scheduled. No other instruction and everything in their help center says this email should have our delivery date on it, it doesn't. So confused we reply to ask when our first delivery will come? We get the same scripted answer, "When it is scheduled". A couple more days pass, we finally get another email saying we have a regular scheduled delivery day. Cool. Now unfortunately between the time we signed up and the date they have now scheduled our delivery our building's doorbox breaks and no one can use the box to either call for entry or dial a buzzcode for entry. We did not know this the morning of the first delivery and I get a phone call at 6am asking for help getting in the building, I am happy to come down and I let the driver in (wearing a mask and keeping my distance). I try and quickly grab our bag from him to keep a social distance for both our sakes, and he seems very confused and asks if we have a Alpenrose dropbox? I now act confused as I have no idea what he is referring to and have received literally almost no instruction or contact from anyone at Alpenrose about any expectation the driver may have. No one has at any point ever mentioned a dropbox to us. He then says something like oh well they should get you a box soon and hands me the insulated bag he is carrying. Not ideal during a pandemic but functional. The next weeks delivery our buildings callbox is supposed to be fixed but unfortunately isn't so we again get a call from the driver (we've still never had anyone at Alpenrose mention a dropbox to us), I come down, I hand him the bag he gave us the week before and he hands us the new bag. I let him know the callbox should be repaired by the next week and thank him again. The next week comes, I am awake at 6am and waiting... the box is repaired, we get no delivery. No call. No contact of any kind all day. I go online to their site to see what may be happening and no info. I email them at about 6pm to let them know we never got our order and ask what happened. The person replies the next day and apologizes, they said they would be happy to reschedule our delivery for the next day but ask if we can check on the call box and make sure it is the same code. We do and find out our apartment complex changed the building code when they repaired the box and never informed anyone. We reply to Alpenrose and provide them the new code, apologize, and ask why the driver had not called like he did the previous weeks. No reply from alpenrose. A couple days pass, still no reply. I email again when I have still not seen a reply and no redelivery attempt. Someone eventually replies (3 days before Christmas and it is now the day we are supposed to get the next weeks delivery, so going on two weeks with no delivery), we are told that unfortunately "We cannot make deliveries that will require being buzzed in or phoning for access." even though since DAY ONE our apartment has required using a call box for access and the driver has phoned us on two occasions for building access while the call box was being repaired, and WHILE KNOWING our building required a call box they had already offered to resend our delivery... Also noting this is not mentioned ANYWHERE on their website or in their helpcenter. So 3 days before Christmas and we are now placing a last minute Instacart order from picked over stock just to have some basic household staples for Christmas. So this was our month and a half experience with Alpenrose. Try Milkrun, they are amazing, wonderful milkpeople, all locally sourced and 1000% better service and communication. This experience has only reassured me Milkrun is a far better service. read more

It is easy to start home delivery, but hard to stop. Speaking in person and providing written notice to the deliverer is not enough. Emailing is not enough. Phone verification is required, but I just get long holds and am then disconnected. Very unhappy with the customer service. read more

I wanted to review Alpenrose home delivery since most reviews are not real current. Maybe kinks were worked out since some past reviews because we have had excellent service. We live (in my opinion) a far distance from Alpenrose, yet our deliveries are promptly at our front door each week. Even in snow! All products I order are in place and very good. Our milkman pulls up every Thursday morning almost exactly at 6AM. We appreciate the prompt and accurate service. Thank you!! read more

If you have heard lore about the cool village at the Alpenrose dairy from family or fiends it is true, BUT Alpenrose has really let this icon of Portland fall to ruin. The most interesting thing is the small ice cream shop which is still open in the village. It is a bit scary looking like it teleported into place from the 50s but I must admit the ice cream is good. They only take cash ($1.50) for a tub of ice cream served in left over Alpenrose cottage cheese containers. It is a strange enough experience to be one of those must do things. read more

My daughter goes to school with a member of the Alpenrose family. They were kind enough to offer their space for a concert featuring the Spizzwinks of Yale University (If you've never heard of them, look them up. GREAT A Capella group!) for a fundraiser for the choir program at the school. I had no pre-conceived notions about this venue. We were seated in the TINY seats in the opera house. (Large or tall folks beware, the seats have little to no leg room and are quite narrow.) It's obviously a few years old, but was warm and a great place for this event. This review is NOT a rag on the venue... keep reading. The trees outside, lining the "street" were lit up with large white bulbs and almost fairy-land like. Parking was down the hill closer to the race track and baseball field, but adequate. There were plenty of people directing traffic as this place can be a bit overwhelming, especially in the dark. There was a small bathroom on the street that was open for guests, thanks for no porti-potties! The hospitality was amazing. Not only did they donate the space, but they donated ice cream for everyone that was at the concert! Choir students dished out several flavors to anyone who lined up. Seating in the ice cream shop was at many long tables. We opted to eat outside in the 24 degree weather because it was very crowded, but what do you expect with 600 people wanting free ice cream! Big kudos to the Alpenrose folks for being a great community partner and for providing great hospitality! read more

I went to see the Christmas Cows and get my daughter's picture with Santa. neither happened. I've never been to this place, I'm from out of town, it was hyped up to me as a really cool little place. Here's what to expect. Parking: absurd. You'll get a spot, but they have people directing traffic and nobody can park. Area: The dairy area is built around a town-square with one off-shoot section. All the building are small, usually about half the size of a real building. So take the smallest town square you've seen in real life. I'd say 20 paces by 20 paces at max for the town square, and a second area that's a set of two side streets with buildings you can go in. Total content is about one city block. Attractions: Santa (four hour wait?) Christmas Cows (did not see them) two buildings with model railroads in them two stands that sell their milk and snacks. Strawberry milk at one, regular at another. Cash only. Nativity barn which is maybe 80 Christmas trees crammed into a small area, covered in fake snow, and some stuff for tiny kids to play in. There's a few animals here also. There are lines literally out the door and to the other side of the town square for this. Warming tent where you can wait while Santa takes pictures. Empty shops that you can walk a little into - post office that's tiny, sheet music store with old pianos everywhere, etc. Candy store, nick-knack store Sled in the center of town you can take your picture in. If you stand near it you'll hear the constant exclamations of people that they're worried it will break from the weight of them. The narrative: We walked in from the side of the duck pond. It was fenced in, dreary, filled with ducks. Saw a horse hanging around in a black field with some chickens way off in the distance. Everything was behind fences. I was told the Christmas cows were housed in the barn next to the horse, but this was the last I was to hear of them. Walking up the only road to the place I passed the warming station and started noticing that all the signs in the village were chipping and decaying. At one point they obviously had been taken care of, but it did not appear any work had been done in the past few years to keep the signs looking nice. I'm asked if I want strawberry milk by my wife. I tell her no and she wonders why. The idea of cold strawberry milk in 40 degree weather holds no appeal and I can't explain that with anything other than a stare. We get in the only line in town. I expect that at the end of this line Santa waits on his mighty throne, this was not the case. It's the nativity barn. At least that's what I call it. They had two goats, a sheepdog, three sleeping ducks, a knuckle-biting donkey, and two or three passed the eff out black cats. The place is also wall to wall white trees and smells like it does when you open up a package with a lot of Styrofoam. There are some small houses in this place, people stop to get pictures of adults in tiny shops. I'm not particularly enthralled by the place and come out with fake snow all over my jacket. That's ok because it shakes off. Companions are annoyed that the places only accept cash and that to get what you want foodwise involves going to two different stores that are eight paces from each other with different long lines. Model railroad looked pretty nice, but I did not feel like fighting to see it. We went into a store, I think it was the only actual store, I'm not sure, and looked around for a minute. The store was the size of a bedroom room, so a minute was about what we needed and left. Taking a picture in the sleigh was the only next thing to do. It felt like it needed some support, but it held us and everyone else. At some point during this the smell of sewage, hopefully from the cows, overwhelmed my senses and I left the town square to get out of it. The tiny post office and tiny sheet music store were interesting, but there was nothing to do, no information to learn, no tidbits. It was like walking into a child's play house. I wandered into the heating area to warm myself and my baby back up. The group debated what to do because we'd pretty much done it all and we left. On the way out we passed some broken down props that ad just been placed to the side of the thing. The whole place had an air of "this used to be great" to it, but having never been there before there was no reliving the childhood memories for me, and I felt if I said anything I was going to be the person who ruined the trip. read more

I ran out of my milk order before next delivery date so bought something comparable at grocery store (whole milk, organic) and it did not have a pleasing taste. I think the lower temperature pasteurization that Alpenrose uses makes a significant difference. I use it in my coffee and could really taste the difference. Was so happy to get my order! read more

This is a fun experience for a young child. Our 2 year old toddler had a great time seeing all the animals, looking in all the storefronts and watching all the model trains, and visiting the storybook village. There also is a very convincing Santa, and you can avoid the hour plus wait because they will text you when it's your turn. We'll be back next Christmas! read more

Bar none they have the best Santa by Nicholaus Photograph ! He makes me Believe again. The long wait is worth it! Way better than the long line at the mall. This year they have spruced up the place, repainted a lot of the "town", first time going through Storybook Lane...just darling! All admissions are free & just amazingly affordable outing. From what I understand, this event relies heavily on volunteers, and donations. Alpenrose do not make any money from this event, any proceeds go to the local charities. It is truly their mission to give back to the community.... The only thing is, the strong occasional spoiled milk/farm stench makes it alarming and interesting, to say the least. But, it is, afterall, a dairy farm, something city folks need to get reacquainted I guess. My 6 yo daughter can learn that hardworking farmers have to deal w that everyday! Maybe they can have chestnut roasting/old fashioned pop corn....something to help diffuse the stench. A lot still needs to be done to bring this place back to its luster. But folks, IT IS FREE! I am looking forward to maybe volunteer in the future and to help keep this event bigger and better. read more

I grew up in West Linn, and I have no idea why my parents never took us here for Christmas, it's FREE people! While it may be a little out of date, It's FREE!!!! It's a quaint little town, and there are animals to see, people who are obsessed and will talk to you about trains forever and a day, and the movie theater is just darling. There's food to buy (cash only). It's a great Christmas experience! We've been going since they reopened four years ago. My husband remembers going when he was a kid, and watching his brother race on the little car track. Go people, it's FREE! read more

I was very excited to take my granddaughters here for their Christmas Village and Santa. Sadly, a bit of a disappointment. The place was not well maintained, bathrooms very rather difficult to find, and everything was overcrowded. We went a t 11 am on Saturday. Pictures with Santa were out of the question! The system requires you to take a number and they would text you when it was your turn. Sounds great, right? We were there for 2 hours and when we checked back in to see if they had forgotten us, we were informed that it would be ANOTHER 2 hours until our turn. Needless to say, we left. That being said, their Storybook Lane was precious and our girls enjoyed it. Other than that, don't waste your time. Santa downtown for us next year! read more

After hearing the hype and watching the stories on the 10 o'clock news, I was expecting some really magical Christmas time fun at Alpenrose Dairy but instead, I was treated to the most boring holiday experience ever. EVER. First of all, don't even bother with the Alpenrose web site as it does not at all explain the event or hours very clearly. I re-visited the site after our non-memorable trip to see if maybe I missed something. Nope. However, I did see what they did there that got me confused. So, first things first: DO NOT visit during the week unless you are only going to hand over large sums of money for a picture with Santa. Sencond: DO NOT visit on the weekend unless you are only there to hand over large sums of money for a picture of Santa after walking around the lamest holiday experience EVER. Third: Go to the mall and hand over smaller sums of money for a picture with Santa where you can also visit the food-court instead of the closed cafe. Just so you know, the picture with Santa was $14.95 for ONE 5x7 photo. The second photo was $7.50. They also had a package deal for ONE 5x7 photo with FOUR 2x3 photos for a measly sum of $29.99. And that's the special price. The normal price was $34.95. To sum up: Don't waste your time or your money as there is plenty of other fun things to do around town that don't suck nearly as bad as this black hole of a dairy farm. read more

Great Santa and super cute little village to wander around in while you wait. Santa opened at 10am and we had our name on the list at 10:45. We got a text when it was our turn which was after about 45 minutes. The photographer did a great job of making my two year old feel okay enough to get a picture with a smile. I've visited Alpenrose about a dozen times to ride in the cyclocross races they host each fall and every time it's great: plenty of parking & bathrooms, diverse terrain for the race course (they even have a velodrome!), and quirky scenery (duck pond & a hokey little old-time western street front). For all those who are into locomotives, Model railroad here alone is worth the trip, they have it set up nicely in two rooms. My son loves loves loves trains and was so excited to see this. The owners are really friendly. The old time model village is pretty cool. My kids had a great time here. It was nice for them to see how things looked like in olden days in person, than me showing them images on the PC. We did like that we were free to go around to take a look at and experience the old village with the kids at our own pace unlike at some places where it is with a guide. I would suggest they put up a lil more info about the displays either on their website, which we could print/pull up on phones to explain to kids(and educate ourselves as well. Truth be told I didn't know what some things were or how some things worked. Don't tell my kids, for the time being, Mommy is a know-it-all ~wink~). They serve icecream and it is was a hit with all of us. Will certainly visit again. Did I mention the owners are some nice folks? :) read more

I can't speak to the quality of their dairy products, but I would like to use this space to thank the two Alpenrose employees and the company itself for helping me with my car this afternoon. During last night's snowfall, my car got stuck on the side of Shattuck a quarter mile south of Alpenrose. Two of their employees saw my situation and offered their help. They not only towed my car out of the ditch, but also took me to a safe spot to park my car. Despite saving me hundreds of dollars in towing fees and a parking ticket, they declined to accept my offer of the little cash I had on me. Thank you so much! I live behind this place, on Terri Court. Alpenrose has a massive sewage problem that is now severely affecting the surrounding neighborhood in southwest Portland. The sewage from Alpenrose backs up into nearby Fanno Creek and the numerous apartments, condos and homes along the creek are victim to an absolutely unbelievable stench that permeates the entire area, unlike anything I've ever smelled before. Along with the damage they probably are inflicting on the local environment, the sewage gas smell is so strong it also may be affecting the health of those close by. It has been an ongoing problem for years and they are, so far, unwilling to fix it. I'm looking to file an official complaint with the city and am asking others in the surrounding area to do the same. In the meantime, I am asking those that read this to not give them your business until the problem is solved.
