Akoni was amazing! We had the pleasure of seeing him share his gift twice at the Westin Nanae Ka'anapali! Thank you again for the memories!

My husband and I had our wedding at The Royal Lahaina Resort. They gave us a couple different musicians to pick from and we had picked originally someone else because we wanted a Ukulele musician. The day of our wedding the Ukulele player said he couldn't make it so Akoni stepped in last minute with his guitar and we couldn't be anymore happier with how everything turned out. It was meant to be that, that happened we believe. We are so grateful he was our musician on our special day. He made it fun and played so beautifully. Akoni was THE BEST. 100% recommend booking for any occasion.

This came highly recommended, we ll walk over in ten minutes. later: It was excellent and a full house. We were in row 5 of 10. Views just fine. I always get more education going to something like this. i didn't realize the introduction of the guitar to Hawaiian music came from the influence during the ranching era and cowmen from Spain and Mexico that brought music and instruments to the Big Island where Ranching remains to this day. Or that the men's higher pitch or falsetto voice in Hawaiian songs came from singing in churches for what would be a soprano or woman's part. It was a full 2 hour event with A wonderful Hula on some songs. After this, you will not forget the experience. A special time for my landmark # review, 2222.

We were very, very lucky to have him as our officiant. I was a little worried that family might roll their eyes at a Hawaiian ceremony. But Ernest's presence has a way of demanding respect. He explained the importance of Hawaiian traditions and shared his love of the Island. He had us face our wedding guests (instead of having our backs to them) and encouraged our loved ones to be involved in the ceremony with aloha and laughs. It was truly amazing. Ernest was also open to a few requests we had about the ceremony and vows. He put all of my worries to rest. I cannot recommend Ernest enough!

So of course, I didn't hesitate to fly over and fulfill my duties as the best man, maid of honor, flower girl, photographer, videographer, and reception planner! Ernest said he'd meet them at the DT Flemings beach. I went to look on one side, they went to look on the other. Bride: As I was looking around the beach, I spotted him at the right and it's as if he appeared out of the mist since the spray from the waves was like a cloud! She knew she had chosen the right person to perform the ceremony! Ernest was great! Explained a lot of how he infuses Hawaiian tradition and culture into each ceremony! I loved the conch shell call! He also sang as they danced the first dance on the beach! I was so blessed to be a part of this beautiful ceremony! When they were done, I started to take photos of the happy couple with the waves in the background. And just as mysteriously as he appeared, he disappeared into the foilage without us seeing. Bride: This has been a magical day! And I agree!

Words always feel inadequate. Let me start by saying Barefoot Minded was the thing we were the most sure about for our wedding and, as it turned out, it was with good reason! They were the uniting piece that made our ceremony and reception truly beautiful. We booked the duo, which in our case was Oren and Levi. Both were friendly and approachable and clearly cared deeply about creating excellent music and the right vibe to match our ceremony. Oren was easy to reach and was able to handle many likely annoyingly specific requests without ever making us feel like we were asking for too much. It made us even more confident we had booked the right music for the day. They played at both our ceremony and reception. At the ceremony, they captured such a perfect mood that our only regret was we didn't spend enough time appreciating them. During the reception, whenever we stopped listening to conversation, we could hear their beautiful tropical sounds coast through the noise. They were also a pleasure to dance to and got even our small wedding up and dancing. We honestly cannot recommend them enough. This is THE MUSIC you want for your Hawaiian wedding or get-together or whatever. Don't look anywhere else. They are absolutely perfect.

Being totally out of touch with the Hawaiian music scene I thought..."Ut oh. Another Don Ho impersonator." I figured I was was going to eat as fast as I could so that when the show started I could slip out before "Tiny Bubbles" started... The dinner was actually pretty good at the Marriott. As I was finishing my dessert, the lights dimmed for the show to start....and I glanced around picking out my escape route. What came on stage was a huge bulky Samoan with hair that spread out 3 feet in diameter.. As he said in his subsequent monolog, if you were on a bus and he boarded it, you would get off the bus and wait for the next one. As he talked to warm up the audience he was actually pretty funny. Then he started to play. WOW. He played the guitar with a bass player and drummer. That was it. Yet, his playing filled the song....strumming and playing solos that seemed to be simultaneous and continuous. He was doing riffs with full cords that most guitarists would have trouble with single notes. He played a range of pop, oldies, folk, country. His solos were a match to any professional musician on the circuit today. In the middle of his set, he then said he was an out of the box musician.....and certainly he looked the part. But then.....he started to sing opera with a modern arrangement. Yes....this was way out of the box......and his voice was impeccable. A purist would probably argue his voice wasnt the best that the Met had to offer, but I have sat through enough operas to know he would at least qualify to audition at the Met. His 1.5 hour set just whizzed by. His skills as a guitarist were some of the best I have ever seen, bar none (I was an usher at the Greek Theater for 3 years and saw the world's best musicians there) His voice had had incredible range in range and in timbre. He could have a very pure operatic voice or a raspy Joe Cockerish twang. At the end of his performance, the whole audience was captivated and yelling "HANA HO." No...that isn't a Hugh Grant saying but what I was told was that it was Hawaiian for "ENCORE." If you are planning a trip to Hawaii and have some flexibility of dates and where to stay....and if you like great entertainment, see if you can attend a Wille K concert. He is that good. Looking at his bio later, I found he has backed up, played with or opened some of the biggest names in the business. One of his songs was Grammy nominated which didn't surprise me in tne the least. Well....my night didn't go according to plan....and I was glad. I would have stayed until dawn if he chose to play that long. I was fortunate to see such a great entertainer. HANA HO.

My focus with reviews is restaurants so I will speak to the buffet. The process for getting us all fed was organized, with the premium seating guests first, followed by the rest of us one table at a time. There was plenty of food, during our turn there were no empty containers. As this is an all you care to eat, I was one that returned for seconds, still plenty of food. At the end of the buffet were the meats, and I thought those could have been better, the Teriyaki Steak pieces were overcooked and tough. All of the items I tried leading up to the meats were fine, I particularly liked the cucumber salad and the fresh pineapple, both had bold flavors and that's what I like. I skipped trying the Poi, having learned that is an acquired taste. Don't just go for the food, go for the fun, and we had a great time laughing and playing along.

While still on my Hawaii Maui vacation, I had to take the time to write this 5 star review…read more Luau - Let's start with what it means and is. A luau is a Hawaiian tradition, where people gather to celebrate and eat with entertainment. This also means in our own understanding like a "wedding", "baby shower", and/or "birthday". Having been to a dozen of luau's, I feel a compelling need to review from a perspective of one who appreciates the arts and culture. Let's start off with price - This is by far a VERY affordable luau. You're not just paying for a Buffett but the entertainment is included. They literally entertain you for 3 full hours. If you're bougie and hate waiting don't be a cheapskate and pay extra to be preferred. If you can't afford to pay extra for preferred then get there early, be the first in line to get seated at the tables behind the preferred seating. Is there a wait, yes, if you're not preferred you wait. That is typically how preferred and VIP works. I paid for the preferred because I don't like to wait and yes, I like to be front and center and I like the perks of being "first" so I paid for the extra service, well worth every extra penny. Staff: 5 stars EVERYONE was extremely nice! IFKYK: If I had read the reviews first I might not have paid to come to the show, these reviews are a mix of good/bad but more bad than good and I'll have to admit Yelpies on this one got it WRONG! Let's just say, more people are inclined to write a negative review before a positive review. It's almost as if the "negative crew" left their sentiments. But honestly it's fairly priced, weather is the weather, it's Hawaii, plan to be hot, in rain, they perform rain or shine. Is it crowded, YES, it's just not going to be just you and your 3 kids and wife. Think of church, if you go, a big ole crowded church! Are there long lines? Yes, but they go extremely fast. Can you experience a bigger show elsewhere? Absolutely you can, if you're going to Oahu and can visit the cultural center, then do that experience or even on the Big Island but for Maui, this is a fantastic experience! Let's get into it! It's a Buffet and given its Hawaiian theme this foodie gives it a solid 10! Food was full of flavor, a little cold but we had windy rainy weather which is no fault to them. Overall, a Maui vacation is going to cost 10k easy (that's cheap)! Add 2-3k for entertainment while you're here and enjoy this beautiful experience! Kudos to the entertainment crew, grateful to see how much love, passion and heart put into this show. Mahalo nui loa for continuing to share the legacy of beautiful Hawaii!
