The general assumption at both Yoga Six locations I attended was that if you were new to Yoga Six, you were new to yoga, which was...odd. The studio is beautiful, and ultra contemporary, if that's your style. Some of the instructors do a ton of talking when they could simply name a move (eg, they'll say "now lower your left heel, now raise your left heel, now lower your right heel, now raise your right heel," instead of simply saying "walk the dog"), which may be an attempt to be new-yogi-friendly. It's a small thing but I found the amount of required listening to be exhausting. My favorite instructor was Dana. She's very down-to-earth and encourages you to listen to what your body needs in that moment, rather than being concerned with performance or fixating on the technicalities of a pose, which I appreciated. Buti with Traci was also super fun! What turned me off (in addition to their prices) was that this location wasted no time in soliciting to my emergency contact. (I expect this from a used car salesman, but my yoga studio??) To me this was pretty inappropriate, and a violation of boundaries/my developing trust. I've cancelled my membership.

It started out a little slow, which was alright because it was a Sunday and I'm used to 'gentle yoga' on Sundays, but then she really kicked it up and everyone broke a sweat without realizing it. It was a really good workout! The studio is wonderful: very wide open spaces, they had all the bolsters and blocks and mats available to use (plus mat cleaner, which was very much appreciated), so it was perfect to drop in as unprepared as we were. I got the first month membership at $99. I signed up for these classes because I was having…read morepostpartum depression after recently having my baby. The classes have helped me a lot. Weights are involved in some exercises, but a lot of it involves lifting your own body weight. Lots of sweating and shaking of legs (they really work your butt muscles), but they encourage the shaking because it usually means you're truly challenging yourself. They also offer alternative positions if the default ones are just not working for you. I have only seen women in the classes, which I prefer because I feel a sense of camaraderie with them. Even if I have to modify my exercises, I always feel accomplished at the end. Since joining, my balance has gotten better, and my ab and butt muscles are stronger! Instructors are very motivational and friendly. During the classes, they sort of cheer you on, and they will walk around to check in with people individually, asking them how they are feeling and helping them make adjustments if necessary. They also make an effort to remember people's names. Bathroom is very clean! I give it 4 stars rather than 5 because the normal monthly membership is a little expensive for me. Could they offer a deal like, commit to 4 months and you get $20 off your monthly dues? Overall, I really enjoy Barre3, and it has helped my physical and mental wellness. **I would also like to add that the pictures in the description are accurate. Some companies will use pictures that are misleading and not representative of what the location actually looks like. Not the case with this one. They keep it very clean.**

The instructors - I've had 5 different instructors in 9 classes and all were nice yet challenging. Sometimes hard to breakdown the move from words alone so mirrors were key in following along. The workout - I'm usually a gym/run rat but have dabbled in some class addictions. But, this class pushes me to my limits and fatigue my muscles. A great cardio, rear and core workout. Unfortunately, I'll be headed home to HI after 2 weeks here in STL and will need to breakup with you, Barre3. It was good while it lasted.

On my latest trip, I finally had the chance to dedicate time for my yoga practice every day, so I was eager to sign up for a couple of drop-in classes at BlueBird Yoga. As soon as I walked on the deck, I was welcomed by Tibetan prayer flags and the scent of incense. I felt right at home in this beautiful studio! I was kindly greeted by Jo, who checked me in and helped me acquaint myself to the space. She led an awesome yoga basics class where she led us through proper alignment of fundamental poses. She also offered many modifications and options to deepen the stretches for more sensations in these poses. I also loved Joe's studio expanding class. It was dynamic and challenging in a good way. He threw in a couple of arm balances, which were fun to explore. Lastly, the BlueBird Yoga community is amazing. Everyone was so friendly, and I made a friend who grabbed coffee with me at one of the nearby cafes. I look forward to coming back next time I visit.
