More time at the pool

I wanted to find a relaxing, laid-back resort for our first ever visit to Puerto Vallarta and came across the Almar Resort. Billing itself as the LGBT Beachfront Experience, I thought this might be the place for us to chill out. In many ways this is an awesome place to stay. Located on the beach at the south end of the Zona Romantica (Romantic Zone), the hotel tower has undergone an extensive renovation along with the addition of a smaller modern building called Mantamar. The existing tower rooms are well appointed and pleasant although a bit bland in their design. They feature walk-in showers and separate space for the toilet, with dual vanities as well as a separate mirror and vanity with bench seat for personal care. Rooms also feature a microwave, wet bar and mini refrigerator, although the fridge is mostly filled with purchasable food and beverages. Our room on the 12th floor had a sweeping view of the bay and beach. The rooms in Mantamar have a more modern and colorful vibe with similar amenities. Some rooms have a glass shower exposed to the rest of the guest room and the rooms are also adjacent to the beach club. These rooms are intended to be the "party" area and the beach club pool and club reflect that intent. The older tower has the Eden pool on the fifth floor with an infinity pool, hot tub and swim-up bar. There are cabanas for rent if you want to spend the day hanging out. It is more relaxed and a nice break from the thump-thump-thump pounding music at Mantamar. That said, to each his own: you can choose the experience you want here. The food at the Eden bar is delicious and a highlight from our stay. We ordered the ceviche, tuna sashimi and fish tacos: all were executed with care and were very good. The pool food is a hidden gem at this hotel. The infinity pool faces the ocean and is sparkling clean. During our visit we enjoyed meeting several other guests on vacation; everyone was kind and fun to talk to. The main tower features a rooftop bar, called the Top Sky Bar. On the positive side, the views are incredible here and is an awesome place for a drink. However, the food is truly awful and ranges from barely edible to total crap. I had a hamburger that was cooked on the surface but raw inside. My husband ordered a bruschetta that looked more like a slice of toasted Wonder bread with some salad fixings scattered on top. We also received a complimentary breakfast that was better but still flavorless and skimpy. Some aspects of our stay were not pleasant unfortunately. The business office has a very antiquated system in requiring a paid security deposit for the room as well as a deposit to cover expected food and beverage charges. Most hotels simply let you place a credit card on file to cover incidentals but that is not allowable at this property. The most annoying part of our experience however is the timeshare presentation. They bill it as a "membership" but let's face it: they are connected to RCI, one of the big players in the timeshare industry so make no mistake, membership functions as a timeshare would. The presentation is insulting in that they very boldly tel you that the only reasons that people don't buy in is that they either 1) don't understand the package (i.e. you must be stupid), or 2) they can't afford it. The high pressure tactics don't work on me having been in sales myself. I know the game and I wasn't biting. Despite this unpleasantness, we did receive two massage appointments in the hotel spa. These were very good and professionally done and were a nice introduction to the spa services available. For those fitness minded individuals, there is also a gym. The spa is located adjacent to the Top Bar on the top floor of the hotel. I think this property works best for men as the majority of guests were male. I did see some women couples hanging out at the pool, but not sure how comfortable they were with the male-oriented atmosphere. Overall, it was a good stay at this property, but they lose a star for the bad food in the Top Bar and the ham handed timeshare presentation. Recommended.

Emmanuel was absolutely amazing. He helped us get situated in the room. The room was spacious and the jacuzzi on the balcony was such a welcoming sight after a long day. Take a chance, try it out. You won't regret the experience!

Went to Puerto Vallarta in August/September. We booked Almar and saw it had good reviews. Our stay there was great. We had zero issues. I've seen a lot of posts about the AC not working but I'm glad we did not have any trouble with that. It would have ruined our experience seeing as we do not like the heat. If anything our AC was too cold lol. We got out the shower shivering, but of course didn't mind. We had food at the SkyBar one evening which was good and a few drinks at the pool. I will say when ordering drinks make sure you tell them exactly which alcohol you want because if you don't they will assume/upcharge their top shelf liquor. Staff were nice and friendly to us. Never had any problems even when we lost one of our keycards. Although checking in did move a bit slow we were greeted with drinks so it all balanced out! lol. All in all I would recommend. It's not a bad walk to any part of Zona Romántica. Price of the room wasn't bad either when we booked!! Although the spa was pretty expensive so we opted to get massages elsewhere.

Is that partial ocean view???

If you are a gay man - GO for it. If you are a straight woman you can forget you exist! I came with a group of 25 for a birthday celebration. We were excited since it was our first time. Meaning the females. My friend & I were not greeted with a friendly smile or greeting more like the help! I informed them that 3 other ladies booked partial ocean & were given a room the 2nd floor with no view. I expressed how I emailed the hotel a week before & no response. "Mar" stated we are fully booked. I stated I should get the room Im paying for. I was dismissed. We left our CC with a $250 hold for inessentials in the room or bar. Nope didn't matter. Anytime we ordered something we needed to pay up front with a card or money because they claimed our card was not on file when we showed proof of our $250 hold receipt. Breakfast is included. Well you are allowed one choice from the menu. You can order additional but for a cost. Don't order the eggs it's probably ONE scramble cold egg. Order the pancakes it'll fill you up for an hour. The beach area the service was excellent. Irvin was a complete doll very attentive & friendly. Again I had to go get my CC because I couldn't charge it to the room. At 10am i asked for bottled water for the room & tidy up the room. At 5p I called to inquiete why wasn't our room tidy up with water clean towels. They stated we asked too late pass 3pm. That's when I lost it. We had been at the beach since 10:45a we turned the sign at 10am. Our room no partial ocean view but 2%. We had full street view. The bed with hair ! The balcony full of hair. Would I come & stay here again?? NEVER!!!!

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at Hyatt Ziva Puerto Vallarta for a wedding, and since…read morethe accommodations were already chosen for us, I didn't read any reviews beforehand. But after seeing some of the mixed feedback now, I was honestly surprised. It seems like this place can be very hit or miss. Thankfully for us, it was definitely a hit. We were there for three nights, and overall had a great experience. Our main complaint would be the food, which we found to be mediocre overall, though there were definitely a couple of standouts. Next time, I'd skip the buffet except for the freshly made stations, which were the only part consistently worth it. We really enjoyed the teppanyaki at Tamari, and the fish and shrimp tacos from Blaze were so good we had them twice during our stay. On the other hand, dinner at Blaze was unremarkable and we were disappointed with the pizza and zeppole from Melanzane, though we didn't get to try anything else there. I do wish we had stayed an extra night or two to explore more of the dining options, though based on what we experienced, we may not have missed out on too much. Every staff member we encountered was friendly and helpful. Special shoutout to Rafael at the club lounge bar and Lizbeth at reception - both were a pleasure and made our stay even more enjoyable. I was also surprised by the size of the gym and the variety of equipment. I made sure to get at least one workout in and really appreciated the incredible ocean views while doing so. We visited in February and never felt like the resort was overcrowded. In fact, some restaurants seemed surprisingly empty at times. One thing worth noting: they have pickleball courts and a basketball court, which we didn't see advertised anywhere. We would've packed our pickleball gear had we known, but fortunately they provide equipment you can borrow. They also offer activities throughout the day - we mostly enjoyed the evening bar shows. I'd definitely recommend downloading their app to keep track of the schedule and access other helpful hotel information like menus. Overall, this was a very enjoyable stay and a strong positive experience for us. I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because the dining experience didn't quite match the rest of the resort. While the food could be more consistent, the friendly staff, beautiful setting, amenities, and relaxed atmosphere made it a memorable stay.

We used a resortpass for a day pass here and enjoyed ourselves…read more The buffet had plenty of great options - don't sleep on the salmon, as it was absolutely delicious, as were the potato tacos. We spent most of our time at the adult pool which was a lovely location with an infinity pool, hot tub, and drink service. There was also a great view of the beach, which seemed very private. The atmosphere in general was relatively relaxed and upscale, and not too many kids, but maybe it was off season. Overall, would certainly go again!

All rooms have a deck facing the ocean, allowing for great sunset views and whale watching. The small beach has built in cabanas and staff will bring lounges or chairs to you. Immediately in front of the beach are large rocks, which break the surf but obstruct the ocean view. The resort has an open air restaurant and bar with excellent views of the ocean. However, service is inconsistent and the food is unremarkable. Similarly, the bar serves a variety of drinks but are mediocre. Restaurant and bar staff are slow and not motivated to provide good service. The resort uses an arcane and cumbersome method to have you sign receipts for your food and drink orders. Much better food, drinks, and service can be found in restaurants and bars throughout PV. Other small hotels and condominiums surround the resort but there is a pharmacy and small convenience store less than a half a mile away and can be walked to along the main road. If you rent a car, parking is minimal, maybe only 6 or so spaces. Taxi service is quick at the resort. The southern edge of PV is about a mile walk along the shoreline through a mix of beach and rocky sections, and likely not passable during high tide. Overall, our stay was pleasant. If you are looking for a quiet place and not picky about food, drinks, or service, you may like Lindo Mar. However, there are better and more modern resorts to choose from in the PV area.

As we're driving to our Airbnb late in the evening (it's really dark and can't see much) we finally saw this restaurant and it was opened so we decided to stop by after settling in but turns out they just closed! I kindly asked them what other spots can we go that's nearby and not in downtown and the waitress recommended me Lindo Mar. We called to make sure they're open and they were also about to close but the guy said he can take us if we come in 5 min. We took an uber there and asked again if they can take us and it was close to closing and they kindly took us! I was so appreciative and felt bad for staying late when they were about to close the kitchen but during our time there, we didn't feel any rush, the servers were so attentive and welcoming. So thank you Lindo Mar Resort! Now about the food, I was craving a burrito so I was disappointed they don't have burritos here so I just got the chicken fajitas and my fiancé got the beef fajitas. They were both really good and cooked well done even though it was all late and we were the last ones. Unfortunately it was too dark to enjoy the views but sitting right by the ocean and hearing the waves in the quiet was still beautiful. Now I know about this spot because you wouldn't think it's a restaurant when you pass by. Would love to stop by again but during the day to enjoy the views more!

They're pricing their food and spa like a 5 star hotel, but providing 2 star service. Hoping this can provide management with constructive feedback. - CONSTRUCTION: the noise is inescapable (beach, towers, and Mousai). Tower 4 was terrible. The tile saw ran continuously from 7 am to 7 pm. It was a LOUD chorus of power tools for 12 hours EVERY day. - You hear EVERYTHING from your next-door neighbors due to the adjoining doors. There's zero soundproofing, and the tile floors echo everything. You might as well have a paper curtain dividing the rooms. - You are required to meet with the 'concierge' after you check in. Their real goal is to get you to sign up for a timeshare presentation. If you decline (like me), they will refuse to book services for you. - The concierge didn't meet with me when I checked in (even though it was during normal hours), and instead sent me informal WhatsApp messages for 2 days in a row (with no explanation of who they were, so I didn't reply). They then said it was mandatory to meet with me to orient me to the property (I'd already been there for 48 hours at that point...) and they wanted me to take the trolly to the lobby. I refused, and instead they came and found me by the pool. - There are only 2 restaurants open for breakfast (for the AI plan), and the earliest option opens at 7 am. This left me with no option for food when I had to leave at 7 am for an excursion, especially frustrating since I'd already paid for that meal with the AI. - At breakfast, you are sandwiched between couples doing their timeshare tour (at least 50% of the restaurant guests are on a timeshare tour). You are constantly overhearing the spiel and awkward small talk over their free breakfast. After a week of staying there, it was honestly nauseating. - If you have any sort of limited mobility, there is no way to enter the Panorama pool without walking through 6 foot tall water fountains (that's the only place with stairs). If you don't want to run the fountain gauntlet, you have to straddle about 3 feet and hope you don't faceplant into the water. - Food prices are all over the map, mostly way overpriced. Cocktails are ~$25 USD, a sushi roll ~$25, a side of plain rice was $8. The prices are so steep that it essentially forces you into buying the all-inclusive plan ($155/day) Spa prices have risen a ton. A 50 min treatment runs $220 USD, a 30 min 'add-on' treatment is $150 USD. - The spa experience has gone downhill since my first visit in 2018. They no longer stock routine amenities like razors, and one day the sole container of body lotion was missing, and the sauna was broken the entire time I was there. Not a huge deal, but annoying when you're paying nearly double the price from your last visit. They used to be great about offering a cup of herbal tea and a small snack after your treatment, or a cold face towel after the sauna or steam room, but I was never once offered any of these (I had 3-4 separate trips to the spa). Just felt like the staff didn't care, or didn't want to be there. - Pool chairs: the best pool chairs are permanently reserved for 'elite' members (aka big spenders), even if they're not planning to use the pool that day. Being a regular member doesn't cut it. Us 'common folk' are left to the less desirable chairs, which were almost always in use or had wet towels on them - The music at the beachside pool was loud and terrible. They were blasting club music at 11 am. If I wanted that vibe, I'd stay at the Hard Rock. - A staff member comes to the pool daily around 3-4 pm and flips over the chair cushions for the night. It was midafternoon! It felt unwelcoming. - The amenities/toiletries in my room were never restocked during the week I was there. Again, a small thing, but it all adds up and is not 4-5 star service. There were more service issues throughout my stay, but I'm out of space.

Because the Grand Miramar is located on top of the hill/mountain you will need to take a cab or uber to the romantic zone. Over time the Ubers or taxis add up in price. If you are looking for a beautiful property a few minutes from the main city area than this is the one. If you are looking to be right in the city center then this is not the property! With the property so high up on the hill, you will get amazing views!!!
