While traveling in Italy, we were able to make our way around Rome on our own. But when we wanted to go to Sorrento, the Almafi Coast was on the way and a must-see. So we hired a chauffeur to take us on a private tour.
The drive felt long, and at some spots, we were able to see Mt. Vesuvius and other scenic spots. But once we arrived on the coastal stretch of the Almafi Coast, it is absolutely awesome. Pictures simply cannot do it justice.
Views of the nice unique homes hugging the steep hills, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea is (IMO) one of the best views I've seen in Europe.
There are several spots where vehicles can pullover to take pictures, but they are often packed with tourists and locals.
Tip: avoid coming here in August. The road is one lane, and in August, nearly the whole country is on holiday and they all come to the beach, so the stretch of road is nearly a parking lot.
If you do come out to the Almafi Coast, also visit Sorrento. A quaint little town full of charm and not too far away.
This would have been a 5 star, but due to the horrendous traffic, I feel 4 is very generous. The memory of seeing the views makes it all worthwhile. read more
