Hmmm...good thing we had GPS to wind our way through Ames or follow the bicycle riders. The land and buildings for both the brewery and Prairie Moon wine, are impressive. The stars are for the beer, we ordered a flight- all 5 had great flavor, I decided on the Rubbly Strawberry Sour. I wish it was available in the store, it's a solid beer. However, the bartender was sitting on our side of the bar eating a bowl of cooked vegetables, with her hands, dipping them in hummus, by the handful and then stuffing them in her mouth. She did have to lick the hummus off at times. It was vulgar. When finished eating and behind the bar, she had a paddle like bug zapper, and began zapping flies and fruit flies around the cooler and bar area. And there were a lot of gnats/flies. The beer was good but so many other things were questionable- we left after the one beer.

It appears all of my brewery photos have a board game in them, which is great if you're me and you like board games! I didn't find anything wrong with this place, it just didn't blow my mind. I was here just before the Iowa weather took a turn for the cold and I wasn't the only one with that great idea on a Friday night. I ventured to their cute little outdoor seating area with hanging patio lights at night. I love the aesthetic at breweries so I have pretty High standards but this was fun. I liked that you could taste the beers with the small glass for only $2 or $3. I got a couple to test them out and once we decided which we liked best, we went back for a bigger one!

I heard great things about this place from a friend and it did not disappoint. Getting there was a little bit tough because it is kind of in the middle of nowhere but that turns out to be part of the charm. It was a beautiful night when we went there so we sat outside and had a really good IPA. Great place to go if you want a comfortable atmosphere to hang out and chat with a good beer!

The staff is very friendly. Love the outside space. Inside there is amazing art work every where you turn. They have a variety of beers on tap. They have popcorn for snacking.

First time here and was very satisfied! The environment is a lot different than your typical brewery as there is a woody, cabin feel to the place. Beer was unique (which I like to see) but some had a hard time matching the description on the menu. The back room is open for extra tables, but it also holds the brewing tanks and a food truck if you're lucky. The food truck was named Cornbred BBQ and I would recommend that to anyone as it was some of the best barbecue in this area.

Really cute brewery, great architecture & artwork with a nice selection of brews and package store. Wish there was just a little more food/snacks, beyond (nicely seasoned popcorn. I'm sure it is a great event venue too, with outdoor patios and a stage/entertainment room.

Beautiful background for some good beers. Love the wildflowers. Would have liked to have food, even just charcuterie.

My boyfriend moved to Ames in January and has been wanting to check out the local brewery. As I'm visiting over spring break, I found on Facebook they were having a trivia night so we decided to check it out! Overall, not an incredibly large selection. The selection is heavy on stouts and porters. You should expect to pay around $5/beer. We tried the Dineezi IPA and Baldylocks Blonde, both good. We had a good time and would return for another Trivia night. However, I would recommend that trivia went a tad faster, in between the questions. It was painfully slow, especially since you can request repeats at the end of each session.

Great beer while watching the sun set.

My partner and I love coming here for a drink! It has such a cool vibe and I love all the artwork in the place - but the best thing about this place is, obviously, the beer I also love the long tables inside for meeting new people and building community. The outdoor space is awesome when it isn't windy or cold out, too. You can't go wrong with this awesome hangout spot.

I absolutely love Alluvial. Best brewery in Ames. They have a beer for eceryone plus cider, kombucha, and coffee. 8n the summer the patio gets packed!!! Dog and kid friendly place. They have board games to play inside and staff is awesome. Cant say enough good things!!

We ventured into Boulder Tap House for a later dinner this past Sunday. Boulder Tap House appears…read moreto be a midwest chain with 11 locations throughout Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. It's amazing how many restaurants are closed on Sunday in Ames... Not much of a demand for Sunday dine-in business in a college town I guess...? Lol Fortunately Boulder Tap House is open from at least 1100 AM until 1000 PM every day of the week. Boulder Tap House sits just off of the Southeast corner of South Duff and East Lincoln Way. It has a large parking lot and it's easy to access. We were greeted right away when we walked in and shown to a booth. Seating is a mix of low and high top tables and chairs, booths, and standard stool seating around the bar. There are TONS of TVs around the dining room and bar; most of which had football games running on them. Our server was named Zach. He stopped by shortly after we were seated, introduced himself and dropped off menus etc., and took our drink orders (Pepsi products). He was back shortly with the first round of drinks and to take our food order. We ordered: 1x Unsweetened ice tea 1x Cherry Pepsi 1x Cheddar house made Boulder cheese cubes 1x Medium (12) order of wings with their honey BBQ sauce. Blue cheese on the side 1x Side salad with ranch dressing 1x Swicy burger and fries Zach was attentive and personable and provided good service the entire meal. He made sure to check on us several times and kept our drink glasses topped off. I HIGHLY recommend the cheese cubes! Choose cheddar, white cheddar, or pepper jack cheese. Served with Burger Co. sauce. The Burger Co. sauce reminded me of a spicy ranch. These things are HUGE. Each will take you at least two bites. They were hot and fresh right out of the fryer. I cut mine in half with a fork to make them more bite size... And to avoid 3rd degree burns from the molten cheese! Lol The wings were sauced well and cooked perfectly! Very good! The swicy burger is where I'm torn. I see other reviews of this burger and everyone really seems to like it. It tasted okay... But I feel like it's trying too hard. Here's how it's described on the menu: "A little bit of sweet and a little bit of spice. A 6oz Angus burger patty topped with ghost pepper jack cheese, fried jalapeños, spicy peach sauce, butter leaf lettuce, tomato and pickles. Served on a toasted bun." First of all there was no tomato or pickles on mine... I didn't request them to be held so I'm not sure what happened there. There was a piece of lettuce...it was entirely covered up by the patty. I didn't even know it was on there until I bit into it. I was okay with this. The beef didn't taste fresh to me. I grew up in a small rural Iowa town of 500 where my dad was the city maintenance man. His boss (the mayor) also ran the local meat locker... It tasted like an overcooked frozen patty. Though I believe Boulder Tap House advertises fresh ground chuck...never frozen...at a lot of their locations. I'm not sure how it's distributed to the Ames location. In any case the taste of the beef was overshadowed by the topping to the point it became a texture v. the focus of the sandwich. All of the burgers listed using the 6 oz Angus patty are advertised the same way. Very heavy on the specialty toppings... The regular burger on the menu is advertised as a 8 oz burger patty (not specifically Angus). Same with the Smashburger (two 4 oz patties). Maybe the patties on these two items are different quality? I took a small piece of the burger itself and it wasn't great. It had the taste you come to expect with frozen patties. It was just meh. It lacked the flavor of fresh beef. I expected better for a $16 burger and fry combo. I kind of felt like the last burger I got at a Chili's was better meat. Now the fries though... Lightly battered and then fried! Served hot. On the thinner side... But these were exceptionally good...! I'd probably avoid the burgers on any future trips to a Boulder Tap House. But that's just me! If you like the novelty of topping and don't care about the quality of the beef. You do you! And I could be wrong about the patty...that's just how it tasted to me. I would go back. However next time I'd stick to the appetizers, wings, or one of the other sandwiches! Our meal overall was good. Payment is done with your server at the table. Everything was reasonably priced. Zach was terrific!

The servers got our orders wrong (we ordered bone in wings and they gave us boneless) and she took it back and have us waited for another 10 mins. My potato soup was horrible, looks like from bottom of the pot that we so thick that I could used a folk to scoop and tasted nothing like potato. The Caesar salad dressing was sour. The cheese curd was good but can't have more than 2. Overall, didn't like the food and experience.

It seemed like the thing do after our meeting and lunch. It took a bit to get out there because it is on the north side of campus and Ames. I had actually never been here because it didn't exist when I was in college. Though there has really been a winery boom in the last couple of years. The winery baristas were able to explain the 10 different wines to us. It would have been amazing if they had all of the white wines because one was sold out. The deal of trying 8 1 oz glasses for 8 dollars is great. We ordered two of their cheese and charcuterie plates (later we found out this was all that they had made). The seating was not ideal and we stayed at the wine bar instead of trying other locations. There was not a tasting card given to you when you got your flight of wines so you had to really pay attention so you knew which ones you wanted to buy. The Iowa grape wines were for the most part great. However, the chardonnay grape that was purchased from California was not good. It either wasn't store correctly in the barrels or not a high quality. Chardonnay is one of the wines I have grown up drinking because my Grandma loves a good chardonnay and I believe I have 4 different bottles of chardonnay at home. Overall not bad place, just I've been to better wineries.
