Really though, I love this place. The staff is wonderful. On one particular visit, I was griping over the problems that arise when I refill my Juul cartridges. Bammmm!!!! The next week the manager pops out an alternative product that addressed the complaints I had. She actually hunted it down because I was getting to be a regular at the store. That should tell you, reader, two important facts. 1) They provide such exceptional service that I became a regular. That's rare as I'm usually an "I don't care, whatever is closest" type of person. (For general info: there are a crazy amount of head shops here to choose from.) 2) They actually care about their customers. For example: I noticed the staff never up-sells products. Whether its him coming with me to make the purchase himself or if I'm sent in on my own to pick something up, I always leave with a purchase. What makes this place four stars versus five is because the level of customer service you receive is ENTIRELY dependent on who is working that day. There are some awesome guys who don't mind being patient, informative, and kind while I view the glass cases or while my husband goes through the menu of flavors. On the flip side, there have consistently been employees at least across the last four years who seem highly inconvenienced by us entering the store. Overall, there isn't a single place in the Hampton Roads area that I would recommend over Papa Joe's.

The following days, when I respectfully explained that her tone hurt my feelings, I was told to leave the store and that I was no longer welcome. I was not disrespectful, disruptive, or rude at any point. What made the situation worse was seeing other customers treated kindly while I felt singled out and embarrassed. I've reached out to ownership and corporate because this experience was completely out of character for the store I've known for years. The female employee, working on March 22, 2025, just before noon, told me, "that I had put it in my pocket," which was impossible because I was busy counting out my cash as she bagged the items. I decided it wasn't worth it to argue with her about it and left. So, at least this employee is a thief. I would not recommend going to this store for any reason, especially since there are at least five other, HONEST, vape shops less than a mile from this one.
