So on my way north on I-20 towards D-FW had the Munchies, not really wanting to stop and eat and…read morenot really wanting a lot, I see on the horizon on my side of the hi-way coming up fast a Golden Chick. So this place is similar to a Bush's or a Chicken Express in menu options. So I think I'll pull over and grab a few chicken tenders for the road. I haven't been into many of these since they changed their name from Golden Fried Chicken back when I WORKED for them as a supervisor in the 90's. They have been around a long time and know what they are doing in the fried chicken and tenders business. I went inside instead of drive thru cuz I needed to stretch my legs anyway. Wow, menu has changed and exploded. They even have roasted chicken now. It looked amazing in the picks. And the old favorite tenders and fried chicken and sides and of course sweet tea. I was immediately greeted by a lanky young Cowboy. I'm gonna call him, in a green long sleeve western shirt and blue Jeans and straw cowboy hat and country friendly accent that would make Dolly Parton blush! And I'm pretty dang country myself! He was busy but said Someone would be right with me. Shortly a nice young girl came to take my order and I ordered just 3 tenders with gravy and a roll. I had to forgo the sweet tea today. I'm off sugar. And I had a bottle of water in the car anyway. Well t why we're out of tenders at the moment but they were cooking an it was a 5-6 minute wait. I told them that was fine. I NEVER mind waiting for fresh chicken, of any kind anywhere. So I went to take a seat a table nearby and wait. A minute or two later the young cowboy came to the counter and asked if he could get me glass of tea? I said why? Because I'm having to wait? And he said he said "yes sir" and I said no that not necessary but thank you for offering. Then he says "hour bout I toss in some fries or okra?" I laughed and said "well I wouldn't knock an order of okra out of your hand!" And he said "well all right then!" He went and finish packing up the order and repeated it to me and I said "and gravy I need gravy, I don't do dipping sauces with real chicken" and he said " oh I'm glad you said that cuz the 3 tender order doesn't come with gravy but I'll get you some". And we had nice little conversation about where I was headed to and where I was from. Another customer came in. An older lady, she ordered a kids meal, but wanted a roasted leg and Instead of apple slices wanted Cole slaw and to upgrade the kids drink to the Large Sweet Tea. I could tell what she was doing. And he had no issues accommodating all her special requests. Then we all three talked about how great their sweet tea is. She said" oh it's the best! I can't even make it this good at home!" And just laughed. I headed out to my car and got my food situated so I could eat and drive. Everting was hot fresh and delicious! OMG the fresh yeast rolls reminder of a place we when I was a child that made them. Slightly buttery yet a little sweet. Super soft, with a crispy bottom edge. Perfect with honey. As I was driving and eating I was a one happy camper let me tell you ... as I mindlessly dug into my box of goodies in the passenger seat. Then after I had eat my 3 tenders I went back to see if I had any okra left, feeling around in the box I found something ... bigger tho, was it clump of okra pieces. Nope, that young cowboy had given an extra tender too! I overheard him talking with another customer about his baby, I think is turning 2 in march. This young man, this young cowboy, I don't know if he was the manager, asst manager, heck maybe even the owner, who knows who has the money to start up a business these days! But God bless him. And may many blessings fall upon him. He was the friendliest counter help person in a fast food restaurant I have encountered in decades . He genuinely seemed to care about his customers as if they were guests in his home, or even as if they were family for those he knew a little better like the lady who came in asking about his child. Y'all stop in if you need some chicken. I always go to The Allen's normally and sit down and eat when I go thru Sweetwater. But today's experience blessed me in such a way I just have to sing this young gentleman's praises, The food was amazing the restaurant was clean inside and out. It's a little of a pain to get to but just follow the signs when you get of I-20. And your nose cuz it smells incredible as soon as you get out of the car!

Ended up picking up some dinner for my son at the Colorado City Golden Chick. Rather convenient one…read moreof his favorites was less than 100 yards from the hotel we stayed at. There was some initial worry as every business is suffering from staffing shortages. That and it was 8:20 in the evening; locally see alot of restaurants closed around my neck of the woods. Drive thru intercom broken; please drive forward according to a hand written side. Nice folks at the window; four piece tenders with fries. Half and half tea and an extra "boat" because my GF wanted one tender. Back to the hotel; chicken was fresh and piping hot. GF also exclaimed the seasoning on the tender was better than other locations. Kiddo settled in for dinner in his own room (a first). Well done folks; would visit here again!
