The course flows gently along the South Channel of the Boise River and offers both challenge and charm. It was the first in our area to host a USGA championship, the U.S. Junior Girls. They are also adding a new simulator building next to Harvey's, their on-site restaurant. The space will feature three TrackMan simulators, full club-fitting services, and direct access to the bar, which sounds perfect for practice or a post-round hangout. My favorite part is sharing this place with friends. The golf course is pristine and welcoming. The staff is phenomenal, especially their PGA pro Drew, who gave me two lessons and runs fantastic group clinics. I always leave feeling more confident on the green. The restaurant side is just as amazing. The team, especially Law, knows our order so well that last visit he brought us our Arnold Palmers before we even asked. We always round out our day with lunch. Chicken tacos, Caesar salad, Reubens, burgers -- the food never disappoints. For evening golf or dinner, their prime rib and salmon are standout dishes. BanBury offers a flawless blend of great golf, excellent instruction, warm hospitality, and delicious food. I highly recommend it whether you are there to play, to eat, or just to spend time with friends.

Once the best public course within hundreds of miles, is now a shell of itself. What used to be a destination for me any time I was around, has become a once a year stop at the most. It's upsetting, especially considering how high the demand is in Boise for an elite public golf course. This weekends round was made especially miserable because of two factors the course absolutely had control over. The first being that myself (single digit handicap) and my partner (mid-handicap) were paired with two young men in their 20's, one of which had never played before. Needless to say, he was miserable, as were we. I had to buy drinks for the group behind us to apologize. Most egregious however, was that the course decided to let a group of FIVE people out in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, to film some Tik-Tok Golf Influencer "content". Our front nine, playing behind these folks took over 2 hours and 45 minutes, but then after the turn Hole 10 took 31 minutes BY ITSELF! By hole 14 we had decided to go ahead of them, and then were verbally accosted by the group as if wed done something inappropriate. And all of this cost me well over $100. The course conditions were mediocre and torn up, and it was crowded and slow even without the influencers. Highlights included awesome service from the folks in the restaurant and bar, and the young lady driving the beverage cart. All of which were affable, friendly, and made sure to take great care of us. Also the gentlemen in the Pro Shop were very professional, and understood my frustrations when I went to speak with them post round. I won't be back to Banbury this year. Might not be back again unless there's major changes to the operations and standards at Banbury Golf Club. Here's hoping that happens, because it sucks to see a world class golf course end up like that.

Currently, there is not much info on the food/beverage situation both on the website and on Yelp. We preordered our meals from a selection set by our group, so I have not seen a full menu. I ordered a club sandwich with french fries, and they were delicious. The bread is buttery toasted with quality tasting ham, turkey and bacon. Lettuce, tomato and cheddar cheese. However, they put A LOT of mayo on it too. The amount of French fries was huge! Good thing they reheat well in an air fryer. Service was fine, but she really didn't talk much, no real engagement with anyone. It also took forever to get whatever was asked for (side of dressing, ketchup and a ToGo box at the end) This establishment charges a 20% service fee "for better employee wages" but it was not told to us in advance (maybe it is posted on the menu I wasn't privy to). The bar area looked fun, clean and comfortable with a really great outdoor patio too. I asked the manager if the club was public or private and even though it is private was the public able to eat/drink here?Unfortunately, the answer is No, or I would come back to try more food. The club has lots of amenities and looked like a very lively place.

One of the most well known Boise courses is Hillcrest, home to the annual Korn Ferry Tour event and recognize as one of the premier private Country Clubs in the region. What sets HCCC apart for me are several factors. First of all, the course is in fantastic condition. Beautifully maintained, with challenging greens and nice landscaping. The course is flatter than some of my favorites, and I prefer some rolling hills and changes in elevation like Pumpkin Ridge outside Portland. However, the combination of playability and challenge is fantastic at Hillcrest. Another outstanding feature is the Professional Golf Staff and Management. The Head Pro, Brian McKinley is among the best I've ever met! And the Director of Instruction, Mark Johnson is warm, knowledgeable and an excellent resource. The Management has changed in the past few years, bringing a completely different and substantially more professional approach to the Member/Guest experience. I'm always impressed when the individuals in charge are working alongside their staff, bussing tables, refilling drinks, etc. The idea is that they're all in this together, working in lock step to provide a great experience. And that's a well run club and course! They've also really improved the experience from the Cart Guys/Girls, and Pro Shop employees. They're courteous, professional and under Brian's leadership, have become much more efficient with things like registrations, equipment sourcing, re-gripping and alike. I still would like to see cart guys/girls greeting guests at their cars to grab clubs and show them where to go to practice, etc. But that's improved as well. Overall, Hillcrest Country Club is the best private course in Boise by a lot. I enjoy getting to play there when I'm in town, and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great community for their families to belong to.

As someone who lives in the Highlands and was genuinely interested in contributing to their team this summer, I expected at least a basic level of communication and professionalism, but that was far from my experience. I first reached out to Crane Creek on April 25th, sending my resume to most of the email addresses listed on their employment page. Unfortunately, their website doesn't list any current openings, so I treated it as an inquiry rather than a formal application. I followed up on May 9th and received no response. Later, colleagues with connections to the club helped me get in touch with someone on the leadership team. I sent my completed application and resume again on June 2nd, just in case there was any confusion. On June 12th, I received multiple calls from an unknown number with no voicemail left. When they finally did leave a message, it was Jared Gion from Crane Creek. We had a productive 20-minute conversation about a golf course maintenance position, and I went down to the club within the hour to meet with a staff member named Ryan. He was friendly but brief, stating the next steps would be either a second interview or to come in and start work after filling out another application. Since then, I have called Jared multiple times over the past two weeks and have received absolutely no response--no email, no voicemail, nothing. The complete lack of follow-up, after taking time out of my day to meet with them and demonstrating flexibility and genuine interest in the position, is both highly unprofessional and frankly disrespectful. I understand that not every inquiry or interview leads to a job--but clear communication is the bare minimum in any professional setting. If a company can't extend the courtesy of letting you know whether or not you're moving forward, that says a lot about how they value people. Potential applicants: proceed with caution. And to Crane Creek: you can and should do better.

Right out the gates is a short, testy, hard dog leg left that really has you thinking about your club selection. Followed by a long par three and a blind downhill par 4. Then you can settle in a bit. There are a lot of parallel fairways and not a whole lot of signs to help direct you where the tee boxes are so bring a golf app and keep your eyes open cause there isn't any GPS on the carts either. Most of the fairways were in good condition. And the greens were average speed, and some were very narrow. Although they didn't have a cart girl and one of the two water stations was empty, the course layout does bring you back to the club house a couple times on the front and back to refill on beverages and hydrate. Be careful if you're playing blues on 18, it's a steep dirt path up and you'll almost certainly slip and fall on the way down.

TimberStone is a welcome relief to house lined fairways. The course, just a few years old, is maturing nicely. Fairways have filled in and are approaching the lush scale. Greens are excellent, receptive and true. Obviously, this was once farm land because the only trees on the course have been planted and, at this time, present no problem. But give those trees a few more years and it will be another story. TimberStone is a nice layout, with four sets of tees - Red, White, Green and Yellow, with red being the longest, yellow the shortest. We played the whites, and the yardage was very challenging, but fair. My only complaint is, that as a senior, they have two par threes that measure 200 yds. or more. Makes one pucker up a bit. If you are the Treasure Valley area, don't miss this golf course!!!

My mom likes doing the circuit of machines up in the weight lifting area. There's lots of cardio equipment. I usually prefer the free weights and non-circuit resistance machines for my workouts, and I've found everything I needed at this YMCA. Staff and members are all friendly, and I've never felt uncomfortable working out here. Sometimes you end up weighting for weights or machines, especially during peak times, but that's pretty much how it goes at any gym. Membership is $50/month for one person, or I believe $80/month for two, so a bit of savings. Considering everything you have access to with a membership, it's honestly not a bad deal. I have paid as much or more for gyms with way fewer amenities, let alone for a yoga or pilates studio. Definitely a good option.

The YMCA in West Boise offers a great experience for any newcomer to the gym or long time veterans who are just coming in to work out.

It was sunny, warm and beautiful out today so I took it as a sign to take a bike ride along the river. I started my ride at the Marigold and Glenwood entrance. I made my way down the path. A lot of construction going on for the new park that is being built by the Fairgrounds. I look forward to checking it out when it's finally complete. The ride along the river was beautiful. The trail was easy to ride and had a lot of spots you can stop at to check out. Wildlife, plant life and of course the water. Every stretch of the river is so different. I did stop at a part of the river that looked like a lagoon. The trees covering the benched area. The sun shining through the branches. You get beautiful rays of sun peaking through. It was truly a magical area. Made my way further down by the white water rafting area. People everywhere on thier bikes or folks just walking. Everyone had the same idea about enjoying this beautiful weather today. We were all soaking up mother earth. I biked all the way down to Main and Chinden. I decided to flip around. I still had to ride my bike home and didn't want to overwhelm myself with a longer ride back to my house which was another mile from the Marigold entrance. If I would have had a partner with me or have driven to the river, I probably would have continued on. But, that's for another adventure! This stretch of the river was so pretty. I'm happy I got to check it out today. It's amazing how beautiful our little city is. I'm looking forward to checking out the other side of the river heading towards Eagle. I just love how everyone is doing their own thing, whether that's walking, strolling, biking, fishing, kayaking or even surfing! Yes that's right, there's a section where you can actually surf the stream.. how cool is that?! There a signs at the entrances that remind people not to be a "speed demon" and also signs warning about blind curves, which I very much appreciated. We rented those Lime electric scooters and were able to scoot nearly the entire path, which felt so epic and fun. Of course, we were mindful of pedestrians, bikes and foot traffic. One of my favorites parts of the path was when went past the Boise Zoo and saw not just one, but too giraffes poking their heads up at the trees. They were ginormous and even seems to acknowledge us with curious eyes and ears. What a special treat to have such an open, accessible and convenient public space right in the heart of a city!

Well, that stack of pooty is this rock. In a good way. Honestly, our total hike was 11 miles and that killed me a little. A lot. But, it was overall a shady, pleasant hike with a great view at the end! I maybe would've go alone, just because you'd be hiking 4 hours by yourself. There's a parking lot at the trail head or street parking below that if the lot is full. Bring water and a snack!

Wow, oh, wow. This hike is a gem. The signs posted throughout the trail refer to it as "Freddy's…read moreStack Rock Trail", and this is considered an intermediate hike. To Stack Rock and back from the trailhead, this hike is just shy of 9 miles. I went with a group of friends and it took us roughly 6 hours from start to finish. How to get there: You'll find the trailhead about 13 miles up Bogus Basin rd on the left hand side. There's a larger gravel parking area on the side of the road. If you're going in the summer months, there is likely to be a lot of cars there. If you're not sure you're at the right spot, take a look at the map posted at the trailhead to ensure that it says "Freddy's Stack Rock Trail". I went with someone who had been before, so we made it there and back with no trouble. However, if it's your first time going, I recommend you read up on this loop or go with someone who has done it before. The loop breaks off into lots of other trails and it appears that it could be easy to get lost if you go into it ill-prepared. Scenery: STUNNING. There are gorgeous Ponderosa pine, and Douglas Firs surrounding the trail, as well as plentiful amounts of wildflowers. There are also lots of spots that overlook the forest and give you the opportunity to take in its grandeur. The photos I've posted give you an idea, but don't do it justice. From start to finish, this hike is beautiful. Stack Rock: I mean the trees and wildflowers are gorgeous, but this is what you do the hike for! After hiking 4-5 miles, you'll arrive at the stack rock formation. It's a bit daunting to climb, so take your steps wisely and consider how you'll get down before you go up! The views from here are truly remarkable though and absolutely worth the climb. Other things: - It's about 20 degrees cooler up here than it is down in Boise (and it's a bit windy). Bring a jacket, you'll probably want it at some point. Even if it is in the middle of the summer. - Also, bring snacks, bug spray, and sunscreen! - I had (limited) cell service for a good amount of the hike. - Lastly, for the sake of safety...don't do this hike alone. You go pretty deep into the forest. Bring a buddy. Better yet, bring 3 or 4.

How to get there(ish): 1. Head up ID 55 like you're going towards McCall 2. Hang a right on Banks Lowman Highway 3. Drive for 28 miles and then you'll see Pine Flats Campground on the right 4. (Now getting to the hot springs is a bit tricky. Side note: I definitely would NOT recommend attempting this in snowy weather, that just would not be smart or safe.) Anyways, you're going to take a trail that runs sort of by the river and is towards the rightmost part of the campground. You'll walk for what I assume to be a quarter mile, and then voila! You'll arrive at a beach along the river with massive boulders and pools stacked against the hillside (this is all natural by the way)! The Campground: Parking is $5/day, and I am not sure about the cost of overnight camping as we only made a day trip here. They have one bathroom here, and, well, it's totally a public park bathroom. The Views: We went on an October weekend, so we had a view that combined all things beautiful that Idaho has to offer in one--snow on mountains in the distance, lush green hills, stunning fall foliage, a rushing river running along the hot springs, and clean mountain air. The Hot Springs: A good amount of the pools of water were warm and I would only recommend sitting in them if the weather is above 80 degrees, or else you'll get chilly real quick. But for the most part, they were toasty, especially if you sat underneath the ones with waterfalls--those will heat you right up! Pro Tip(s): 1. Make sure you have more than enough gas in your car--you're out of service up here and out of luck if you run out of gas. 2. Bring a big water bottle! Sitting in hot water will dehydrate ya real quick.

The temperature is perfect if you land in the right spot. (Lower ones are better) would we do this again ? 10/10 yes.

I paddle all over the country, and in many other countries, I like to record my Paddle, especially first time, and transfer it from my Garmin watch to the relive app. This app creates a video of the trail and any pictures taken along the way or Geos stamped on the trail while you watch the video. It's really amazing. This park was clean, self service for Park entry if the booth is closed. Nice restrooms. Apple parking and it was mowed later in the week so it really looked nice. First hole water all on the left and a creek in front about 240-250. So no driver on a par 5. Lol. Very nice course with a few elevation changes. Greens had been punched two week prior, they weren't perfect but still pretty good. Couple of the tee boxes were TINY! like I felt if I laid down I could touch both. Lol Slightly pricey for Idaho in my opinion at 76 or 78 bucks. But I will totally be back, I enjoyed that course.

BanBury, a public course in Eagle thoughtfully designed by John Harbottle III, has consistently ranked among Idaho's top 10 public courses by Golf Digest for nearly two decades. The course flows gently along the South Channel of the Boise River and offers both challenge and charm. It was the first in our area to host a USGA championship, the U.S. Junior Girls. They are also adding a new simulator building next to Harvey's, their on-site restaurant. The space will feature three TrackMan simulators, full club-fitting services, and direct access to the bar, which sounds perfect for practice or a post-round hangout. My favorite part is sharing this place with friends. The golf course is pristine and welcoming. The staff is phenomenal, especially their PGA pro Drew, who gave me two lessons and runs fantastic group clinics. I always leave feeling more confident on the green. The restaurant side is just as amazing. The team, especially Law, knows our order so well that last visit he brought us our Arnold Palmers before we even asked. We always round out our day with lunch. Chicken tacos, Caesar salad, Reubens, burgers -- the food never disappoints. For evening golf or dinner, their prime rib and salmon are standout dishes. BanBury offers a flawless blend of great golf, excellent instruction, warm hospitality, and delicious food. I highly recommend it whether you are there to play, to eat, or just to spend time with friends.

One of the premier courses in Boise for decades,…read morethe decline of this course has been rapid since the departure of the original management team and greens keeper. Once the best public course within hundreds of miles, is now a shell of itself. What used to be a destination for me any time I was around, has become a once a year stop at the most. It's upsetting, especially considering how high the demand is in Boise for an elite public golf course. This weekends round was made especially miserable because of two factors the course absolutely had control over. The first being that myself (single digit handicap) and my partner (mid-handicap) were paired with two young men in their 20's, one of which had never played before. Needless to say, he was miserable, as were we. I had to buy drinks for the group behind us to apologize. Most egregious however, was that the course decided to let a group of FIVE people out in the middle of a Sunday afternoon, to film some Tik-Tok Golf Influencer "content". Our front nine, playing behind these folks took over 2 hours and 45 minutes, but then after the turn Hole 10 took 31 minutes BY ITSELF! By hole 14 we had decided to go ahead of them, and then were verbally accosted by the group as if wed done something inappropriate. And all of this cost me well over $100. The course conditions were mediocre and torn up, and it was crowded and slow even without the influencers. Highlights included awesome service from the folks in the restaurant and bar, and the young lady driving the beverage cart. All of which were affable, friendly, and made sure to take great care of us. Also the gentlemen in the Pro Shop were very professional, and understood my frustrations when I went to speak with them post round. I won't be back to Banbury this year. Might not be back again unless there's major changes to the operations and standards at Banbury Golf Club. Here's hoping that happens, because it sucks to see a world class golf course end up like that.

I am now comfortable with my swing and club distances and looking forward to improving my short game and putting over the winter months. Phil has been very diligent in working within my capabilities and assisting me in perfecting my swing and golf strategy on the course!!! Club speed on shot, club selection for distance, playing smart, approach shots and now - my putting! Whether out on the course or on the Golf365 simulator, Phil is always drawing the best out of my game. With Phil's winter program underway, I am hoping to improve my game another 5 to 10 strokes in 2024! Happy Holidays!

I have visited Golf 365 and worked with Randle to figure out some issues I have been having with my…read moreclubs. After three major back surgeries being able to golf is wonderful. Randle has helped me shaft length and grip size on several clubs I just couldn't hit. He has not tried to sell me a new set or left it up to "what I want" as they often do in large retail stores. He has made a few adjustments to a couple of clubs, re-gripped a few, and watched me swing my driver and offered me some suggestions. On my stance. I have gone to Golf 365 because I trust them and Randle has no let me down. I highly recommend them as a great source of all types of help with your golf equipment. I know they also offer lessons and simulator time but haven't used these services, no doubt also very good.

One of the most well known Boise courses is Hillcrest, home to the annual Korn Ferry Tour event and recognize as one of the premier private Country Clubs in the region. What sets HCCC apart for me are several factors. First of all, the course is in fantastic condition. Beautifully maintained, with challenging greens and nice landscaping. The course is flatter than some of my favorites, and I prefer some rolling hills and changes in elevation like Pumpkin Ridge outside Portland. However, the combination of playability and challenge is fantastic at Hillcrest. Another outstanding feature is the Professional Golf Staff and Management. The Head Pro, Brian McKinley is among the best I've ever met! And the Director of Instruction, Mark Johnson is warm, knowledgeable and an excellent resource. The Management has changed in the past few years, bringing a completely different and substantially more professional approach to the Member/Guest experience. I'm always impressed when the individuals in charge are working alongside their staff, bussing tables, refilling drinks, etc. The idea is that they're all in this together, working in lock step to provide a great experience. And that's a well run club and course! They've also really improved the experience from the Cart Guys/Girls, and Pro Shop employees. They're courteous, professional and under Brian's leadership, have become much more efficient with things like registrations, equipment sourcing, re-gripping and alike. I still would like to see cart guys/girls greeting guests at their cars to grab clubs and show them where to go to practice, etc. But that's improved as well. Overall, Hillcrest Country Club is the best private course in Boise by a lot. I enjoy getting to play there when I'm in town, and recommend it highly to anyone looking for a great community for their families to belong to.
