Since 1991, I've purchased house insurance, then an umbrella policy and recently, when I moved to Philly, I got renters insurance and will be transferring my car insurance to PA. Net-net is 30 years of TELEPHONE-only service has been extraordinary. No brokerage agents, only a few brick and mortar offices -- all business is conducted over the phone, and the customer service is extraordinary. I recall a scary auto accident where I was rear ended on a Sunday in the parking lot of a shopping center: trunk not able to be closed, rear windshield shattered, bumper caved in. I reported it on a Monday morning [not realizing that I could report it on Sunday!], a claims adjuster came right out, and I RECEIVED THE CHECK in US mail on Friday.

A call to Grundy's office about a specific level of coverage was answered promptly. Notification of approved coverage came within a few days. This is in sharp contrast to the two other "big name" specialty carriers. One carrier, referred to me by my primary Auto/Homeowners company, and which I had used for a previous car, was curt and intrusive, took weeks to get back to me and offered less coverage at TWICE the cost! The other specialty company offered similar coverage at FOUR times the cost of Grundy. Grundy is a family-owned business and they treated me like family.

The question was never answered, instead they sent me a "ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF USE" form to sign again because I asked a simple question. The form they sent me reads: "... It will not be driven to work or school or used for business or commercial purposes..." Their website reads: "It is even OK if occasionally you drive your collector car to work to show it off to friends." They also requested that I again send them information about mine and my wife's daily drivers. Stay away, they are shady.
