I was a Grundy customer since 2019 and have never had to make a claim with them. A post on a car club came up regarding collector car insurance and someone was claiming that Grundy was very restrictive. On their main page it says you can drive your car to work every once in a while so I wanted to double check that with them by sending an email. The response was less than professional. The question was never answered, instead they sent me a "ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF USE" form to sign again because I asked a simple question. The form they sent me reads: "... It will not be driven to work or school or used for business or commercial purposes..." Their website reads: "It is even OK if occasionally you drive your collector car to work to show it off to friends." They also requested that I again send them information about mine and my wife's daily drivers. Stay away, they are shady. read more

We should have paid attention to Google Reviews, lots of negative ones on their procedures for sales and Underwriting. It's all a wasteful scam to get your personal info, and then deny you as a client! They make you "jump through hoops," make you submit tons of documents and pictures, only to deny you. But they never call to say you've been denied. The most ironic and ridiculous rule is that your "Everyday," driver vehicle can't be more than THREE YEARS OLD! Their sales staff should know this! I just bought a like new 2001 Porsche 911 and got quotes from literally ALL of the collector car insurance companies. Grundy was certainly the least expensive and on the surface they seem fine. Especially after reading their web page. Specifically this part... "Grundy wants you to enjoy your car, not keep track of mileage like some programs with limitations. Therefore, we give you unlimited miles for pleasure driving and in collector car-oriented activities. It is even OK if occasionally you drive your collector car to work to show it off to friends." I was sent a "use declarations" contract to sign and it read exactly opposite of what Grundy advertises on their website! Here is what it says... "It will not be used as backup transportation, or for errands, except for occasional pleasure use. It will not be driven to work." So, their website says your policy includes "UNLIMITED MILES FOR PLEASURE" and "It is even OK if occasionally you drive your collector car to work to show it off to friends" But the use declarations page says "Occasional pleasure" and "It will not be driven to work". Grundy should be ashamed. They are totally lying on their website to attract your business. They hope you don't notice the contracts you must sign completely opposite to what they advertise. Hagerty is almost as bad folks! If you have a Porsche and are in a state they offer coverage, do yourself a favor and contact Porsche Auto Insurance. They have zero limitations. Their policy includes 2500 miles use per year and you pay an extra 6 cents per mile after that. It is very fair in my opinion. read more

My experience with this business has been very positive. Yes, they do a thorough job during their intake but I found the prices to be reasonable and fair. I keep very good records on my classic cars, so it was not difficult to provide the information/pics. Also found their expertise in offering insurance in different states in LLC entities reassuring. Grundy is an agency model so you will end up being insured by an insurance company based on your coverage needs. I do agree the quote and proposal process is a bit clunky but you also don't have to pay the invoice they present until they actually bind the policy. I received my insurance cards in one instance by specifically asking them for a paper copy to be mailed to me. The other instance I just happened to go on the actual insurance website to retrieve the documents. read more

I currently have a claim for my 1962 Corvette it is very repairable but they want to total it and if I want it repaired I must buy it back with a salvage title. My car needs only fiberglass repairs front and rear, there is no structural or mechanical damage but they insist to keep the car a salvage title is required although a friend just a few months ago had an engine fire and he bought his car back without giving up his title. he repaired his car and everything is fine. Apparently it depends on your claims agent and they aren't all on the same page. I tried reaching out to Grundy directly but my request for help fell on deaf ears. I have been a Grundy customer for many years and have 5 classic vehicles insured by Grundy and have had only 1 small towing claim (under $200.) and this is an example of Grundys customers loyalty. I applied for collector's insurance for my 2006 car and I was denied due to the fact that I only had one other daily driver car. Their rule is that every licensed driver in the house must have a daily driver plus the collectible car that I was trying to insure. The collectible car was just my sunday driver. Caveat Emptor! I was a loyal Grundy customer for almost 20 years and gave them the opportunity to insure 14 vehicles-- everything from a 1931 Model A to a 2022 Challenger. But, when we downsized and moved into a condo with only a two car garage, they made the unilateral assumption that suddenly our collector car was a "daily driver" and unceremoniously cancelled our coverage, despite our remonstrations to the contrary. They demanded that we own at least three cars in order to get coverage on the collector car, even though my wife no longer drives. i filed a claim on january 13th of 2024 my vintage 1994 jaguar xjs convertible in mint condition was stolen grundy has not paid my claim yet. grundy application had a question have you had a loss or violations in the last 3 years in which i have not lost my drivers license nor had any moving violations . now grundy is claiming that the question was asking have i had any claims in the last 3 years this question was very ambiguous and grundy is trying to deny my $30000 claim. it has been 4 1/2 months now and my claim has not been paid. i explained under oath ( thats right i had to make a statement under oath at grundy attorneys office) i hired my own attorney who accompanied me. the question about claims and violation are always asked in separate question not in the same question.if you google does insurance companies ask about moving violations and claims in the same question google will say its always asked in separate question never in the same question my lawyer is working on grundy to pay this claim when i was obtaining the policy which took 5 1/2 weeks to become active in order to then order my vintage tags during recorded conversation via phone the rep and i discussed my previous claims and all kinds of forms were mailed to me in which an application form was included which this question " have i had a loss or violations in the last 3 years" this is number 3 on the form google and webster dictionary states : ambiguous "like many words in english doubtful or uncertain especially from obscurity or indistinctness" " capable of being understood in two or possible senses or ways" "inexplicable" so this situation has prevented from replacing my car and now that this is the perfect weather to cruise with the top down i had spoken to a rep during the course of the process of obtaining insurance for the 1994 jaguar xjs convertible and mint condition. and as i was speaking to the raptor several times i did it stated that it was being recorded. and now that i had to file a claim grundy insurance company is doing everything in their power not to pay vincent graham 94 jaguar xjs convertible claim read more

Total ripoff! I had classic car insurance with these clowns for 2 years. In the last year, my payment and hundreds of other insured payments got returned to the banks and no one knows why. When they didn't receive my payment, they sent me a cancellation notice. The other day I received a letter from a collection agency demanding the one years payment for the year they cancelled. Use Grundy with great caution. I cancelled a policy in August and had a Premium return due and have been trying to get this amount sent to me since then and it is now the end of November. I have been told numerous times they are sending an email to Philadelphia Insurance to get the situation resolved and never hear back. I have had coverage for my classic car for the past 5 years with Grundy, through Philadelphia Insurance Companies, I had always thought that they were a very good company. One that cared about their customers and their customer's vehicles. Recently, after getting a dent on my classic car, my claim was denied. The denial letter stated that the appraiser confirmed that the damage was due to poor workmanship and/or a manufacturer's defect, and as such, they will not cover the loss as they consider it normal wear and tear. How can a dent possibly be considered normal wear and tear? How can a dent be considered either poor workmanship or a manufacturer's defect? I have six figures invested into a five-year professional restoration that was started 10 years ago and finished 5 years ago of this vehicle, I simply cannot believe that poor workmanship or a manufacturer's defect is to blame for the dent. Certainly, poor workmanship or a manufacturer's defect would have shown up prior to this, especially considering that the part that is dented was manufactured over 50 years ago. When I try to contact the Claims Supervisor, Joseph Zampogna, I always get his voicemail. He claims he will return your call as soon as possible, however, I never receive a callback despite me leaving him numerous messages with my name, phone number, and claim number as his voicemail requests. I will not give my business to any company that makes arbitrary, irrational claims decisions like this. If they won't cover a dent what do they provide coverage for? Absolutely the WORST insurance company that I've ever had! Grundy falsely represents themselves as a still autonomous company in their ads.....THEY'RE NOT.....they are owned by Philadelphia Insurance Co. So all that blather you see in their ads about their corporate history, care and conscience is just that, blather. I had numerous collector cars insured with agreed value coverage through Grundy, including a '69 Mercedes-Benz 280 SL, a '54 Cadillac Eldorado and my '92 Oldsmobile convertible, etc. A guy hit my Olds, so I immediately turned his information and details about the wreck over to Grundy. After not hearing anything for an extended period I contacted Grundy only to find out they wanted to "total" my Olds, and pay me a fraction of what it was worth. I told them, "no dice" and Grundy, i.e. Philadelphia, spend over a year fighting payment to the body shop and me as they repeatedly said the Olds wasn't worth the coverage, even though Grundy AGREED TO THE COVERAGE LIMITS and I'd been paying on the policy for YEARS! I finally had to employ an attorney, who had a pretty laid-back approach and tried to work with Grundy for months in obtaining resolution. Finally my attorney told Grundy that they agreed the Olds was wrecked, they agreed to the coverage limits and the policy, the damage was within policy limits, and that they didn't have a leg to stand on, so he'd be filing suit that week against Grundy. Upon hearing this, and after months & months of stress & difficulty caused by Grundy (again MY OWN insurance company!), they FINALLY covered the costs to repair my Oldsmobile. So unless you want to be victimized firstly by a bad driver, THEN again be victimized repeatedly by your own insurance company, I highly recommend you insure your classic vehicle with a reputable & honest company......which means NOT GRUNDY! read more

I do not like giving poor reviews. I am sure the actually insurance and policy is just fine at Grundy. However, the process to get a quote and ID cards quickly takes way too long ( Days ). I had to submit photos, fill out multiple forms, and pay for the estimated amount just to wait and see if the policy is accepted. NO WAY! Their web site crashes so you have to manually print and send in docs. I called State Farm and they have a classic motor division and they got me total comprehension coverage and I had ID cards in 5 mins in my in box with greater coverage and for only 110.00 a year. If Grundy could streamline their process they may be okay. They are Archaic though when it comes to getting this stuff processed for people and to me that is unacceptable. read more

I hope you find this review before you waste your time with this company. I also wish I could have seen similar before I bothered trying to obtain a policy from Grundy. If you get nothing else from this review - think twice about even pursuing it. Went to insure a 30-year-old modern classic. Used the (horrifically clunky) website, submitted a value, got the quote sent in the application. Truthfully stated this was going to be primarily a show vehicle; I was fine with that. First snag: if you want the rates for a historic registration but you don't yet have a historic plate on your car - ironically enough, because you first need proof of insurance on it - they'll need you to pony up the larger cost of a car with normal plates, then hope to receive a refund after the fact - they admit this is a process that could take a month or longer. Second snag: application took nearly a week to come back as denied. Seems I failed because I put in a value that was deemed too low for their underwriters. Here's a thought - THEN WHY WOULD YOU LET ME COMPLETE MY QUOTE, LET ALONE AN APPLICATION? Every other agreed-value provider indicates a minimum on their submission forms before letting you proceed any further. Not here. Third snag: called a representative who was largely dismissive of me. Gave me all sorts of run-around when it came to why it was dismissed before finally landing on the value. I asked if I were to increase the agreed value to their minimum, would they provide coverage? Rep put me on hold, kept me on hold for over 10 minutes, then disconnected the call. I follow the rules of baseball; at this strike count, Grundy's out. Their rivals are more expensive but at this point, I think I'm happy to pay for customer service that ACTUALLY respects their customers (what a novel concept). read more

Grundy is the WORST collector car insurance on the planet! Stay away! I own a convertible 1969 Olds Cutlass restored twice with frame off restoration. Carburetor backfired in my garage and caused underhood damages. Grundy (Philadelphia) sent out an adjuster first. Then, two weeks later sent out a special investigator that interrogated my wife and I in separate rooms in our home. Then, several weeks later, Grundy had us testify under oath with their attorney and a court clerk who also asked us the same questions as the investigator. Needlessly to say, it's been 100 days later and no resolve. Representative handling the case is rude, unresponsive, and very ambiguous. They never give any details or specifics to the progress of resolution. Now they're not returning my calls or emails. Completely ignoring our $10,000 claim. We've been with Grundy for 2 years and we've never had to file an insurance claim or we don't have moving violations. The attorney conducting the Examination Under Oath asked my wife and I had we ever filed for bankruptcy! Wow! What does that have to do with our claim? We've been made to feel like criminals and like we're trying to file a false claim. I've even restored all the damages to my car, saving all receipts, and doing 90% of the work myself in the garage. Grundy just needs to reimburse me and simply will not do it. I will tell anyone and everyone to STAY AWAY from Grundy! They are not a problem until you have a problem. They even asked me where was I going and why was I warming up the vehicle in my garage. Grundy may offer lower annual rates, but you better be sure to never have to file a claim. Had the same issue as others posted, attempted to receive a quote from Grundy for a large collection. They are underwritten by AIG, who rejected issuing a policy to me because of comprehensive claims within the 5 years that included the following: * Damage by a transporter moving a vehicle who had a $5000 deductible and refused to take my calls after the damage. * Damage from being parked underneath a leaking vehicle at an external shop * Hail damage to my regular use vehicle. As you can see all 3 of those items are acts of nature and well beyond my control. But yet they will say they cannot underwrite a policy to you because of it. I'd hate to see what would happen if you had an at-fault claim. Stay far, far away. read more

I got a quote for my Corvette which was reasonable. However, the process to get the quote took way too long. Then, when they said everything was approved, I called and made the payment. A few days passed and still no insurance cards. I called them and they said they needed more documents and signatures. In my mind, this information should have been submitted during underwriting before the approval. They didn't have a problem taking my money immediately and I began paying for insurance that I couldn't even use. Based on this experience, I decided to cancel it since this process was long and clunky. I can't imagine what would happen if I actually had to make a claim. I received a quote online and it was a better price than Hagerty. I wanted to move forward with the process for insuring my 1967 Mustang Fastback. There was a list sent to me. I had the items I needed on the list and called to ask if there was a way to email everything. The gal I spoke to was rude and condescending stating that "it's on there several times". Well, it isn't. There is no email address on the form they sent and the email address they sent the form from had an automatic reply with no help. The email address she gave me was wrong as well. I called Hagerty and they got it done over the phone. I will pay more for better service. I am not an elderly person who struggles with technology. I am quite savvy with it.
