Allpress have been here offering simple cafe fare for about a year now and yet the crowd is relatively small despite what is a bright an airy space, an incredibly good value menu and great coffee made with beans that are roasted in front of your very eyes (the warehouse can be spied through gigantic glass walls). Why? Because you will need to step away from the buzz of Smith Street and go deeper in to the industrial areas of Collingwood.
I paid a visit with my favourite +1 for a weekday breakfast and we left satisfied. There's dozens of tables inside and more again outside, and I pictured myself spending a couple of hours here lazing with newspapers or working on my laptop. The interior is Nordic-warehouse chic and felt rather calming.
Breakfast was a mixed plate of goodies - boiled egg, goat cheese, tomato, pickles. Served with a plate of mixed Brasserie Bread it was nice to mix and math flavours. It actually defeated me and next time we would probably share (two platters between three would be ideal). The rest of the menu is simple (sandwiches at lunch), but sometimes that's what you need, rather than tricked up hipster combos.
