My daughter has just bought her bridal dress from Allison Jayne. It was a stress-free, joyful experience. There was a wide range of different styles and my daughter tried on lots before choosing the special one. The atmosphere was relaxed, with no pressure of time . The staff were so friendly, helpful and patient! They made the whole experience feel very special. You'd think with the amount of bridal shop reviews I've done that perhaps some small part of me wants to climb into a gown and spit out my vows one day. Sadly no, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate a store for its ranges of exquisite gowns and stellar customer service. Allison Jayne has the most diverse selection of gowns I've seen, from the more ostentatious Marie Antoinette-styles in brilliant shades to your usual no-beads, no-lace traditional variety. Not sure what camp I'm in, as they all seem like head-turners in their own right. I was surprised at how modest some of the prices were as well, with several on offer for less than £1,000. I think if I had forthcoming nuptials, I'd probably come to Allison Jayne first, as you're less likely to look like a catalogue bride in one of these spectacular dresses. read more

This is a fantastic bridal shop. I'll admit that I've bought my dress from there but I really am a fan. For years as a teenager and in my early 20s I'd walk past the shop and look through the window at the gorgeous gowns inside and here I am having bought my dress from there for my wedding in December. Allison Jayne was the first bridal shop I went to. I called to make an appointment but you don't have to if you just want to have a look around. I went mid week so it was lovely and quiet but it can get rather busy on a Saturday. There is a huge selection of dresses available and the ladies there are happy for you to pick out as many as you want to try on, I went along picking out dresses and handing them to the assistant who would them put them in the changing room ready for me. The assistant I was with was wonderfully helpful and was honest with me when I needed to be told that something didn't suit me, I tried on one dress that I and my aunt loved but the sales assistant told me that the dress was too old for me, which looking back on I agree with. The shop itself is warm and welcoming, the changing rooms are private so there's no chance of anyone outside peeking in at you. The dresses are widely priced so there's something for everyone, they also usually have a sales wrack. As well as wedding dresses they also sell shoes, veils, shrugs, hair pieces and bridesmaid dresses. I'd highly recommend Allison Jayne to brides for a professional and welcoming service. read more

I would absolutely not recommend Allison Jayne's bridal shop. I went in to have a look at wedding dresses and, while I found a dress I loved that I was happy to buy, they do adopt a very high-pressure sales technique. I decided to buy the dress after having thought about it, and they were very friendly and helpful. They tried to push some overpriced accessories (£50 for a plain piece of chiffon as a shawl - yikes!), but I was clear about what I wanted and they didn't have it. So, I went away having paid the deposit feeling quite happy. Six months later, we went to have a look at the dress and have a first fitting. They left us standing outside the shop for fifteen minutes on a freezing December morning (after 9am, too!), which wasn't a good start... I went with my Mum, who had been a seamstress in her youth, and we got the impression that the dress wasn't as good quality as the one I'd initially tried on. We weren't sure though, so let it go. There were some adjustments needed to the hem (which was weird, because I'm quite tall and the dress was the perfect length when I'd tried it on initially), and the boning stuck out over the hip making it look a weird shape. When we went back a month or so later, after the adjustments had been done, we were appalled. There was a snag in the chiffon! The boning had been altered so one side was higher than the other! The hem was wonky, so one side touched the ground whereas the other didn't! There was no shifting around of the dress that we could do to make it look ok. The sales girl refused to "see it", even though it was as plain as day. She even got the in-house seamstress to come in and try and bully us down. There's only so much arguing you can do three days before your wedding, though, so we ended up paying and leaving. I am so disgusted and disappointed by my experience with Allison Jayne's, and would absolutely not recommend them to anyone. read more

This review is for the Bristol branch of Allison Jayne: First impressions of the Bristol store are great, lovely new premises with a white glossy floor. The staff were helpful and you leave feeling reassured that everything it under control. As time was coming closer to the wedding I rang the shop several times and was told that the dress was delayed, unsure of where it is, we are chasing it. I couldn't believe that something this big could not be tracked easily so five weeks before my big day I contacted the designer directly, they told me that my dress was with them but I'd needed to speak to the shop about it being delivered. I rang the shop keeping quiet about having spoken to the designer and they told me that the dress had not reached the designer yet (hmm). I told the designer what the shop had said and magically my dress was on it's way and would be at the shop in a few days time. I suspect that the designer rang the shop and asked why they were telling me that they didn't have the dress, the shop then had no option but to pay for the dress and get it delivered. Of course who really knows what happened here? Anyway eventually they phoned and I went in for my fitting all the staff in the shop were totally different, they looked busy and customer service was lacking. They no longer accepted the credit card that we used to pay the deposit so we had to pay with a different card which we were not told about prior to arriving. Alterations on the dress were rushed but admittively good. When trying to find a time to do the fittings it was highlighted that it had been left a little late. I was asked to take the dress home straight after which was a total different story when I first went to the store. I'd of taken the dress anyway, I was concerned the shop may be having money problems and did not want to risk leaving it there. When I first went in to order I was told they could hold on to the dress to keep it nice up until the big day. It's just strange, there was a distinct impression that they really did not want me to leave the dress there. It could all just be a lack of communication between designer and store but If I hadn't have contacted the designer who knows if I would have even got my dress! I won't know what happened between the designer and store, but I shouldn't have had to intervene to get things moving. read more

The general shop staff I found to be helpful, attentive and good to deal with. The stock was good and there was plenty of choice. HOWEVER the owner is a different story. She used high pressure sales techniques and lied to us in order to get the order. With us it failed but I wonder how many would have caved in? We did go back as this was the only shop that stocked what we wanted and we placed an order. When we picked up the dress we were NOT ALLOWED to try the dress on as it is "not policy". The real reason is that we were taking the dress to be taken up and in by our dressmaker NOT hers. She was going to charge - wait for it - £200 for work that should cost no more than £60. Lots of techniques were used on us to make us feel bad - to guilt us into using their dressmaker. Needless to say we didn't. My advice would be only use this company if you have no other earthly choice. Try every other shop before you visit this place!! read more

Its was painful to even rate this shop one star to be honest. Avoid this place at all costs. The staff were rude, particularly the owner who kept saying every single dress looked amazing just to make me buy it including the hideous dresses. They didnt listen to me or find anything that suited what i explained i was looking for, in fact they pretty much showed me the complete opposite. Im a good size 12 and all the dresses were far too small to try on properly, most of them being a size 10. i asked why and apparently it was because the only buy one size and most of these were to fit the mannequins. This idea i found ridiculous, i not only had to be held into most of the dresses which was embarrassing and im not even big in size, you could not tell what it would really look like in the correct size, so they tried explaining to me instead!! Absolutely ridiculous!! If you want to go and try on the most important dress of your life and be made to feel fat, uncomfortable, unlistened to and as if you are being taken for a ride then go to Alison Jayne in Cardiff as this place will tick all those boxes. read more

Do not , do Not buy from this shop they are wolfs in dresses , they are nice as pie when your in the shop but when you have payed for you dress and signed the contract that's the last you see and hear from them , plus they say they will do something for you and they don't , They have no time for you they don't return your phone calls , don't take my word for it read all about them I wish I did , don't let this happen to you don't sign the contract , just tell them you will not buy if you have to sign , I hope this helps someone if so Im happy . Although i love the dress i bought, it was petty and leaves a bad overall impression that the manager just had to add an extra £10 out of nowhere last minute after giving me the final price - most likely just because i wouldnt spend an extra £200 on a tiara and hoop i didnt need (as there was a built-in hoop).
