Where do I start?
I first came across CBC in October 2010. I walked in and was totally amazed at the selection of dresses considering the size of the shop.
Anyway, the first dress I tried on was 'The One' even though it was Ivory and I wanted white. There was no doubt in my mind. However, at £750 for a white version, custom made, I decided that I need to discuss the price with my fiance first. It was then the hard sale came!
With comments like 'If you don't put half the deposit down soon, we can't guarantee you will get that dress'
'We sell out of that dress as soon as it comes in'
'We may not have that fabric' and so on....
I placed a £375 deposit that day. Also ensuring I would get a free BM dress and £100 accessories voucher.
A few weeks later I went for another fitting, this time with my bridesmaids. I was offered the dress I had chosen, off the rail, £200 cheaper. It wasn't the colour I wanted but at £200 cheaper who was I to argue? I was assured that as there were a few minor flaws and alterations that needed doing, this would all be corrected FREE at a later date.
I also asked how much it would be to add sleeves to my dress and was told in Katie' (the manageress) words 'No more than £40' - this is also made clear on ALL of the alteration signs in store.
All was going well until a few months ago, maybe June of 2011 when I asked for a running total with O/S balance. I was told that I had X amount to pay, but by my calculations, the shop would be over-charging me by exactly £200. I immediately attended the shop to try and resolve the issue. I spoke to Katie. She was adamant that I owed that £200 even though I had receipts to confirm what I had paid. We were in the wrong, she was right.
This disagreement continued for 2 weeks before she eventually phoned and agreed that OUR figures were correct and hers were wrong. No apology, nothing.
Today, (7.9.11) I am only 8 weeks away from my big day. I had an appointment with the seamstress. I was given a list of things that needed changing. I agreed to them as I was previously told by Katie that alterations would be free.
I discussed with the seamstress the possibility of having the sleeves fitted for £40, that I had previously discussed with Katie.
Well, I thought everything was going fine, I was enjoying myself, as were my wedding party. Until we got to the till to pay off the balance. I was told that for my alterations it would cost a further £200!!!!
(they seem to have a fascination with the £200 figure) I explained that Katie had told me that the alterations would be free but that I understood I would have to pay £40 for the sleeves. As Katie wasn't in work, the lady at the desk agreed to phone her and ask whether free alterations were agreed. She denied it. This absolutely infuriated me as she told me in front of 3 of my BM's that they would be free and this was also confirmed by them today. I would NEVER have settled for an Ivory dress if I could have got the white version, custom made, for what would be the same price after alterations.
I decided, that as I am fortunate enough to have a soon to be mother in law who is a seamstress, I would take my dress as soon as the sleeves were added with no further alteration. I was then told that would be £75. I pointed out that I was quoted 'no more than £40' - again this was denied by the assistants. I decided there and then that I would take my dress and my BM dresses as they were as I wanted no further dealing with such a poorly managed bridal shop.
My whole experience has been ruined. The joy of my dress is gone.
Unfortunately, My sister has now paid deposits for her dress, my BM dress and 2 flower girls dresses ready for her wedding next September and after today, she is deeply regretting using CBC too and wishes she had looked elsewhere first.
Cardiff Bridal Centre & Katie in particular.... I hope I NEVER have to deal with you again! Katie needs replacing with someone a lot more competent.
STAY AWAY FROM CBC - THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF!
If you have been promised something (Such as the free alterations I was promised) Get it in writing. They will only deny it.
You think paying £750 for a dress, alterations would come free anyway.... Especially as they are chopping material off and adding nothing! They even had the cheek to charge my bridesmaid £20 to trim her dress by half an inch. (even though the dress was custom made to her sizes) DON'T TOUCH THEM WITH A BARGE POLE! read more
