I was invited to play at a porch fest a week before the event, so I go into my closet to get my guitar and low and behold the neck had bowed and the strings were shot. well I call around for a luthier to help me out and all of them said it would take 3-4 weeks for a setup, so I get my guitar and take a ride over to Allentown music and meet Joe the owner and explain my situation and he finds me a guy that did it in two days, WOW! Allentown is a great place to shop locally for music supplies. The owner is super kind and provides great service. I teach piano lessons and he keeps the series I teach in stock so students can get the lesson books they need. Whenever I need to order lesson books, he gets them fairly quickly. There is a decent selection of piano music for browsing. I also teach clarinet and he has the basic supplies for clarinet and sells reeds by the box and by the reed. read more

This shop is amazing! The owner, Joe, is bend over backwards kind and helpful. Walked in as a first time customer and he spent a lot of time with me explaining about acoustic guitars so I could find the perfect one for a present. Ended up walking out with a brand new guitar with all the extra niceties to make the perfect birthday present for a family member. Service was amazing here. I like this store. The owner is always friendly and helpful, and has a decent supply of picks/strings/accessories at all times. It's important to me to support local music stores, and I've always liked coming here. I can get the odd Oboe reed for my son, drumsticks if I need them, I bought a really nice Djembe a few years back, and I've had him do a setup/action adjustment on my octave mandolin and my nylon-string guitar. Definitely recommend Allentown music over one of those big chain stores anyday. read more

I stopped in to Allentown Music about a week ago with my sister and boyfriend (an avid guitar player and enthusiast). Having grown up in Buffalo, I was hoping to be greeted with the same hometown friendliness that I've become accustomed to at other great shops along Elmwood Avenue. While we weren't shopping for anything in particular, we were interested in checking out some of the more unique instruments (guitars in particular). To my greatest dismay (and embarrassment), the salesman at the counter was nothing more than a grumpy and disgruntled, miserable employee. He had an extremely arrogant disposition about him when my boyfriend politely asked if there were any unique or special guitars that he could point out. After an incredibly snarky response from the salesman (of which left me speechless), the 3 of us left this store and will NOT be returning. I've seen much better service at any and every other music store than this one. read more

They're now on Elmwood Avenue. They specialize in instruments and lessons, aiming more at the lower end instrument market. They have a good deal of guitars and a very nice staff. It's just that their selection of upper end equipment is rather mediocre and not designed to serve those in search of the latest, and the best equipment. Sadly, we're stuck looking to guitar center for that. read more

Picked up some gifts here just before Christmas and this place was great. Got a nice small set of Bongos and a Ukulele. Staff was very helpful in picking one out and telling me a bit about tuning it. Glad to shop local at a place like this. read more

This is a store that I've had good dealings with in the past... I've gotten a couple of things there. The prices are generally competitive and in line with what the going rate is. I have dealt with Joe, who I assume is the owner, and got along with him just fine. He seems to be the kind of guy that tells it like it is with respect to prices, trade values and the like, which I greatly appreciate. No, they don't necessarily have the latest, greatest, all-singing, all-dancing gear in stock, but they generally have a good selection of equipment that is usable, affordable and giggable.
