After speaking with a handful of reputable contractors in the Madison area, we chose Allen Kitchen & Bath (AKB) based on a referral from a friend who had their kitchen recently remodeled. We had our first meeting with Kathy (Interior Designer) within a few days of contacting them. She came out to our home, talked with us about our needs and ideas, and took rough measurements right then and there so she could get started on renderings, material selection, and planning. Within a week, we were in her office reviewing a detailed, accurate work order that was nearly spot-on with our vision -- and at a price lower than we had anticipated! After answering what must have been a million questions from us over the next week or two (and letting us review other materials in the showroom), we came almost full circle back to Kathy's original design. Kathy was patient, kind, and quick to address all our needs as we worked through the initial planning process. Once we officially signed with AKB, it was less than a month before our project was scheduled and the dumpster arrived. Our lead carpenter, Pat, arrived the following morning and got to work right away. Outside of the electrician and plumbers, Pat was our main tradesperson for the project--from tear-out to tiling, he was skilled in all areas. Since I work from home, I was able to greet Pat each morning and talk over the day's work. He also showed a great deal of patience and kindness as I asked questions about the project, materials, techniques, and more. And since he was here for over a month, I got to learn more about him and his family. It was genuinely nice having him here each morning, putting his years of experience to work as he rebuilt our bathroom from the ground up. His dedication to his trade truly speaks for itself--our bathroom turned out amazing! Overall, we are very pleased with our remodeling experience with Allen Kitchen & Bath. I can't say enough good things about my kitchen remodel with Allen. I had a basic idea of what I wanted and Laree helped me find all the right pieces. She rearranged my kitchen floor plan to not only work better but also give me much more storage. Harrison, the carpenter, did a great job - he was not happy with just "ok", but was more of a perfectionist than me. Nino, the tile guy, made my selection of hand made (thus uneven and a challenge to use) tile the highlight of the room. Deanna kept me up-to-date on all installations. Even the inspections went smoothly. I've been thru a lot of construction projects and this has been, by far, the easiest with the best outcome. 5 Stars for Sure! read more

One star because no star isn't an option. I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at Allen (Madison, WI location). While I was excited to work with them on my kitchen cabinets, I was treated incredibly poorly by their designer Kathy W. From the beginning, she was rude, dismissive, and unwilling to listen to my ideas. Rather than collaborating, she made me feel like I was a nuisance for simply trying to be involved in the design of my own home. What made things worse was how the situation was handled when I brought my concerns to management, who called me shortly after to try to salvage the relationship. I expected the owner or leadership team to take the issue seriously and stand behind the customer. Instead, I was met with defensiveness and excuses. It was clear they were more interested in protecting their staff than in resolving a legitimate customer complaint. It's disappointing when a company fails to uphold basic standards of respect and professionalism--and even more so when those values are not reflected at the top. I took my business elsewhere, and I encourage others to think twice before trusting Allen with such an important investment. read more

Although I was happy with my bathroom remodeling project through Allen Kitchen and Bath, I wasn't thrilled with their less than punctual accounting. Over six months after my project had wrapped, I received the "final invoice" with really no excuse as to why it took so long to get that final billing. June 2024 my wife and I had a very good experience remodeling our Bath with Laree Allen. The most difficult part of the process was deciding on the Fixtures. Run, run away fast! I made the mistake of not reading reviews before signing with Allen Kitchen and Bath. I did that because they have been a Madison fixture for so long. It was a HUGE mistake. They are unprofessional, incompetent, unresponsive, and unethical. DO NOT do business with them! They are hurting for money. Check CCAP under Allen, Gary E.  Work was not done as requested. Product quality was substandard. Tiles were chipped. An employee was hostile. The work took twice as long as they said.  Management was unresponsive to my complaints. read more

Google wont post the review because I am not a customer, but the partner to a recently fired employee. I suggest finding somewhere else to have your new kitchen or bathroom installed. This company has terrible ethics and treats their employees like crap. My partner has worked here for over 2-3 years and has had to beg for his deserved raises, been yelled at by the owners son and other people on multiple occasions. He works very hard and always does the right thing just to be told to do it the wrong or lazy way resulting in a bad installation. During the entire time he's worked here, I've begged him to work somewhere else because it's so terrible. To top everything off, they fired him today, on Christmas Eve, in retaliation because he put in a two week notice yesterday. Again, I don't suggest going with these guys as they just fired the only person who cared about doing the right thing. Imagine being so terrible to your own employees that you fire them on CHRISTMAS eve out of RETALIATION because they found something better. We were extremely knowledgeable, replaced and installed a broken timer for our sprinkler system in the quickest turnaround and also advised us on our kitchen remodeling options which our previous irrigation company never did because they only sent their servicemen to switch on and switch off. Allen and his team were very hands on and we would definitely recommend them to anyone. read more

Stay away from this company! We have done a lot of remodeling projects over the years and in November 2016, after a lengthy, deliberative process that included multiple bids, we selected Allen for our bathroom remodel. We have never had a more disappointing or frustrating experience with a contractor. From the beginning we told Laree Allen that timing was very important to us, a primary reason for selecting them was that they assured us they coud start the project sooner than other contractors and could complete it in a shorter time frame than other contractors. When we signed our contract we were told that the project would begin in 6 weeks and then take 5 weeks to complete. The week before our project was scheduled to begin we called Allen to confirm that the project would be starting on time. They informed us that the start date would be delayed by 4 weeks. I doubt they would have informed us of this delay if we hadn't called them. So, right from the start we had a 4 week delay, our project wouldn't be starting until the week it should have been finishing. Once it did start, 4 weeks late, workers didn't seem to have a clue what needed to be done. In our first conversation with the carpenter he told us that another customer was upset with him because he was taking so long to finish her project and he tried to talk us out of the pocket door that was part of our design because he said it was not going to work. We told him, "It was designed by your office with a pocket door we told him, it better work." On the first day of our project, during demo of the bathroom, a wet wall was discovered that needed time to dry. The carpenter told us that he would check back in a few days to see how things were progressing. We did not hear back from him for an entire week. The walls dried relatively quickly but they put the whole project on hold for that week even though there was additional work that could have been done in the bathroom away from the wet wall-finishing demo and beginning construction on other walls. Another week delay. When the electrician arrived we were told that there was going to be an additional charge to move some of the circuits which were all things that were covered in our original estimate from Allen. When we protested, they came in with another electrician to review the situation and then did change electricians and did not add any costs, but again, this cost us several more days in the project timeline. They also changed carpenters at this time as well. As the project was nearing what should have been completion, we were informed that Allen failed to order a transition piece for the shower walls that were scheduled to be installed. This caused another week-plus delay. Then, when the project was ready for counters & other solid surface pieces that were ready to be installed, those were not ready when needed causing more delays. All the delays were blamed on the wet wall initially discovered even though the project was in a position to be completed within 5 weeks of starting, but pieces needed to complete the project were not ordered in a timely fashion by Allen. A project that should have been completed on January 20th was not completed until March 10th. read more

I really loved working with the designer Joe M and they assigned Jorge to do my project. Both these men are wonderful to work with. Joe really helped me pick materials that created the look I was going for. Jorge was so detail oriented he asked questions that I often answered "what do you think J, okay lets do that". One star since no stars isn't an option. My parents used their Brookfield location for a kitchen counter/backsplash remodel. Run far away. The kitchen is not huge and is a project I imagine could've been completed in a month, a generous estimate. They began the process in late February with their stated deadline of Easter. My mom took a week of vacation to be available for whenever they could come. Easter is this Sunday and they still don't have the counters. Donna quoted one time and then Julie called with another time and asked who promised the first time. Ummmm...your colleague. From a business and project management standpoint, this place could not be worse. Donna, Julie, and the rest of the crew are unprofessional and lazy. Again, run away. read more

STAY away! Worked with the Brookfield location on a full kitchen remodel and floor replacement in 4 rooms. They lie. This mismanage time. They use your money to pay for past jobs, so when needing to order your product, money isn't available. They accidentally forwarded me an internal email in which they were negatively talking about ME ( and this came from the owner Laree) The project was not completed in the time promised. Credits were not issued as promised. When trying to collect final payment they "forgot" about a credit and attempted to collect extra money. Use this company at your own risk. If you do, keep good records, get things in writing, and don't accept whatever excuses/lies they tell you. read more

When our kitchen needed a down-to-stud remodeling 15 years ago, we turned to Allen Kitchen and Bath for both the design and construction work. We were extremely happy with the beautiful kitchen that resulted and called on Allen a few years later to redesign our master bathroom, laundry and pantry. Working with what we thought was a difficult footprint, the designer and contractors gave us a spacious and functional set of rooms. This year, as appliances began to wear out, we found we needed a remodel to fit today's larger appliances into the area we had, keeping the design we love intact. Allen again gave us reason to be grateful we found them. Most recently, a factory-related issue with our oven led to reinstallation problems. We called Allen, and within two hours we had a carpenter and electrician at our home working to resolve the issue. They stayed until they were certain we were happy with the solution they came up with. If we ever need kitchen or bath design work done in our home again, there is no question we will definitely call Allen. read more

After 5 months and numerous days that I had to take off to let the installers in, the shower is finally finished. At a cost of $10000 I would have thought that the service would be better. They installed tile incorrectly which I made them remove and reinstall. They threw cigarette buts in my driveway, killed the grass from shavings from cutting of material that they didn't sweep up, and tracked mud in several times. They ordered the glass door THREE TIMES before they got it right. I HAD TO SHOW THEM THE SHOTTY WORKMANSHIP. THEN THE MANAGER. They said it took longer than normal because their installers didn't work in Madison on Tuesdays or Thursdays. And after all that they didn't discount the price for my inconvenience or APOLOGIZE. Do not let them in your home or give them a dime for workmanship that is sub standard. read more

My bath remodel was a complete disaster and had to be redone back down to the studs twice. Bad tile work, poor electrical work, shockingly poor plumbing (failed city inspection), poor installation of a very expensive shower door (still doesn't work properly), sloppy painting, and a contractor who did not show up until I refused to make scheduled payments and threatened legal action. This guy needs his license reviewed. Unfortunately, Wi consumers are not protected from guys like this. I strongly urge all buyers to avoid this company. Don't be fooled by their slick showroom and sales staff. It was a nightmare and worst remodeling experience I've ever had. read more

Told bathroom redo would be 8 weeks. Took 4 months. Paid for full sheets of corian for new countertop and 3 wall shower. Got pieces. The counter top doesn't even match where they joined the pieces. Spent weeks trying to get done as requested and had paid the extra money for. No luck. Will never do business with this company again. read more

Couldn't be more pleased with Allen Kitchen and Bath, Stoughton Road, Madison. Did a complete kitchen remodel, from start to finish, a very unbelievably pleasant experience! Had a good time working with Joe, the designer. I had some idea what I wanted but very glad I listened to his suggestions. He knows his stuff. I was given a start date when signing the contract. I was also told it would take about a month. Yeah, right. The actual start date was about a week later than promised but not bad considering they had other projects before mine. Most amazing was that it really was done in about a month. I mean top to bottom, complete! Mike the carpenter and Zach, hardworking guys! And Mike, no detail too small for him to take care of. And Julie, never meet her in person, but she had everything/everyone scheduled in such a timely manner. The plumber, the electrician,the floor guy, the inspector, etc. and they had to come back more than once as the project progressed. I never thought any major remodel like a kitchen could go so smoothly. Even now when I walk out into the kitchen 4 months later, I still think, Wow! did this turn out great or what. read more
