I've used Allen Barron several times to help structure startup companies and then for integrated help with planning for matters legal and tax. Usually you end up dealing with your CPA in one meeting (maybe with tax counsel) and then later with your business lawyer, and it fells like there are no clear answers. Do not work with them. Took about five months to get my Living Trust revised and cost about twice the original estimate (and that included some reduction in the final cost per my request). Some of the delay was due to ongoing questions and adjustments per my requests but the great majority of the delay was due to very poor and delayed communication on the part of Allen Barron. In one case it took three weeks before I received answers to an email regarding very basic questions. Some of the staff was friendly and courteous but the overall process was very painful, took a huge amount of my time, and was very expensive. On my part I was courteous and respectful. Asked to speak with the owner but was told that he would not speak with me. For months I sent tax papers and Janathon said Vanessa would send contract many times. The day taxes are due I finally receive a contract and sign it and then they say they can't have me as a client after months of being reassured they would take care of everything. Something disturbing is Janathon wanted to call my financial advisor. The taxes for this last year to be filed had nothing to do with my financial advisor. The following year yes. But no reason to call him. The first quote I received was 5000+ retainer. I see where other people complain. I said I have financial advisors(10 calls a day everyone wants to be my financial advisor) and attorneys, I don't need these other services. The "retainer" was around 1200. I feel I dodged a huge bullet from not continuing working with them. Even tho my taxes did not get done on the deadline, because of them. They want to do full service. Sept 2017 - New to the USA and went to a meeting for some advice concerning investing in the US as expats. Paid with a non US card at the counter on the way out. June 2018 - 9 months later I received a notification that my payment was still outstanding, I told them that I paid on the way out at the front desk. In the meantime we'd replaced those cards and closed bank accounts. October 2018 - emails to and fro and I couldn't get statements on closed accounts without even more time and $$ so I just paid the 'outstanding invoice' as the time and cost of getting statements from overseas banks was more than the bill and the effort involved. Was also worried about trying to build credit in the USA. October 2018 - because of the above I paid FOR A SECOND TIME. This second payment was nearly TWICE THE AMOUNT OF THE ORIGINAL INVOICE. Even after confirming I was paying a secondary invoice I received a further condescending email from new 'head of collections' asking "if I knew Id paid why would I do so again??" Really unprofessional. November 2018 - received a notice my 'debt' - now paid twice - was going out for collections - as they hadn't updated the payment appropriately. July 2020 - FOUND THE ORIGINAL PAPER RECEIPT of payment in full on the date of the original meeting, as Id written to several staff over numerous emails back in 2018. Several condescending emails to and fro later they confirmed the error, and eventually confirmed my new postal address for a refund. No surprise but the refund was still issued to THE WRONG ADDRESS, with a typo on the addressee line... At no time did anyone besides the frontline admin staff involved in the mess contact me, offered an explanation, or apology. I have no idea how a simple meeting, no actual accounting work, could cause this much ridiculousness and wasted time with multiple staff. There is no chance they reconciled the end of month accounts receivable correctly way back in Sept 2017 or again in October 2018, leads me to think there's potentially much more sloppy work going on. Last year I got extremely busy and I could not do my taxes (I usually do my own). So I decided to hire this firm to help me since I literally had no time. The owner/person in change talked to me over the phone during a phone appointment-interview about my taxes and I told her it should be pretty simple. She gave me a quote of 575 dollars. Then I dropped all my paperwork then they proceeded to take my credit card for that amount 575 dollars. Then the receptionist said that was the retainer? I was not sure what retainer meant. The lady told me my taxes would be about 500, 600 dollars which I thought it was excessive but it seemed like a legitimate place. After I was given to a regular clerk/tax clerk he kept asking me for additional things. What I didn't realized it's that everything I spoke that clerk it was an additional fee. After a few weeks they finish and my bill was 1300 dollars. I couldn't believe it.!!!! I was misled. I spoke to another clerk at this point regarding billing, a collections lady. She told me I owe more money just for talking to the clerk that did my work. Anyways I never got copies of my taxes by now. They still said I owe them money. I hired this law firm to do a Charitbale Trust for a client. After 2 months of excuses, trust still isn't finished and they want to upcharge me for services not rendered, basically holding my client hostage. The staff is a bunch of pencil pushing nim wits. I trusted this team of attorneys to help me with my back taxes owed after hardship. They claimed they could help me settle however in the end they only set me up on a payment plan which you can do yourself with the IRS. They made a couple of mistakes and billed me for the work that was there fault, in the end they dismissed the bill for the mistake. I was however charged for services rendered which were, setting up a payment plan (you can do this by calling the IRS yourself) and 2 phone calls to the IRS to settle which didn't happen and I'm pretty sure they knew I wouldn't be able to settle due to my current circumstances. I paid them over $800. Be careful you could end up owing more money than what you started with, I suggest talking to the IRS before an Attorney, surprisingly the IRS reps were easy to work with :) good luck! read more

This firm is by far the worst accounting firm I have EVER had do work for me. Completely condescending when they are 100% in the WRONG. You ask a question and they can't think for themselves. The best they could ever do is regurgitate back to me what was in my "engagement" letter. Hmmmm I think I know what was in there? What I expect when I shell out more than $5K is a firm that knows what they are doing. When someone says to me "you didn't tell me you wanted me to do that", aren't you advising ME???? I don't have a law degree, you do. I don't have an accounting degree YOU DO. Am I making my point here? Customer service is embarrassing, lawyers and tax preparers just push paper from one area to another. No one thinks there, no one, then they don't take responsibility when they make a mistake. Perhaps I've been too lax in my trust of CPAs and attorneys who I've been paying to take care of my very complicated money and tax issues but I have to give this firm a low rating and it pains me to do so. I was happy to find a woman-owned organization and felt that she sounded like they knew what they were doing, but I now have new representation and mistakes were found in last year's taxes and the professional demeanor and attitude was sorely missing. I retained the services of this firm the beginning of March 2016 and its been a nightmare ever since!!! They lie and try to steal your money!!!! They do not return any emails and then threaten to send you to collections even though I have made MULTIPLE attempts to resolve this only to be ignored. I went there for filing an offshore discovery, a procedure my regular, competent and honest CPA did not want to do, and my ignorance was heavily taxed. Although I was told repeatedly that the firm was routinely handling this type of filing, I had the impression that I was the first person who was doing this at this office. The staff had to do a lot of research at my expense (250-275$/h). The accountant handled only a small part of the tax filing (I was sent to my regular accountant for the major part of the work) and charged an obscene amount of money for filing FBAR, a task which was fairly simple and straightforward in my case. Wherever there were difficulties, mistakes were done. I notified the CPA of the errors, and was charged for the corrections. To avoid additional fees, I spent a lot of time researching my questions on the internet and found I could have easily done the job without their help.
