This is a very nice trail located in Amish Country which runs North and South of the small town of…read moreSpartansburg. It is named after the East Branch of Oil Creek, which it follows. The trail-head is located in town next to the Dutch Treat restaurant, and is also next to Clear Lake (There is a bridge so you can walk over and view the dam). The trail is not very long, but the natural scenery makes this a worthwhile visit. I have ridden this trail on numerous occasions, and have seen lots of wildlife, including one time, where I saw a bear cross the trail. Sometimes there are Amish horse and buggies using the trail also. P.S. I had no signal in the town of Spartansburg, so I was unable to check-in there, but near the end of the trail near Sportsmans Road I did have a signal, so I was able to check in there.

There are snakes and mosquitoes because you're near a murky mud puddle they (ironically?) call Clear Lake and a swamp. The length of it is paved. Alongside the pavement there's grass on one half and gravel on the other half of the length. There are a couple of benches. There is aggressive signage that's all kinds of pissy with buggy drivers about how "we'll close this gate if you amish keep using this trail for driving..." or something similarly sh*tty that seemed uninviting, prejudiced and unnecessary. There are no trash receptacles except at the very beginning of the trail so if you walk your dog be ready to carry your poop bag the whole way. Also, bikes are allowed on the trail so keep an eye out.

The Allegheny National Forest is beautiful and covers a lot of ground. There is so much to explore…read morehere, with so many amazing sights. There are two ranger sections here: Bradford and Marienville. We stopped by the Bradford office, where we were able to pick up maps and informational brochures and sheets that were helpful for our explorations. The Allegheny Reservoir, created by the Kinzua Dam, provides some great opportunities and views from the forest - Rimrock Overlook and picnic area looks out at this area, and a hike is available from Kinzua Beach to the overlook. Nearby Kinzua Point also looks out at the water, as well as an information center (limited hours). All of these areas were great for sunset viewing too. Another extraordinary area within the forest is the Hearts Content Scenic Area, which is absolutely stunning. Camping and cabins are also available in the forest.

The park was very calm and peaceful, with only a few other visitors when we stopped by. The lake and its small dam were beautiful to look at. The lake offers an accessible dock for fishing too. There are a number of picnic tables and shelterhouses throughout the park, plus some nice modern restrooms in good condition available. There is great beach area with a nearby playground, plus a campground with yurts and trails. It was a beautiful and relaxing visit to a very nice state park!

Chapman State Park is a pretty Pennsylvania State Park within the Boundaries of the Allegheny…read moreNational Forest. Its a unique State Park that shares it boundaries with National Forest Land making it really feel as if your in the middle of nowhere. Chapman State Park offers a beautiful campground with great amenities for families. As well as Cabin and Yurt rentals. Chapman also offers a Beach for swimming as well as a few Playgrounds for kids. Chapman has a pretty decent trail system for Hiking as well as Bike Riding. The large draw to the park is the Large lake that acts as the center piece for the Park. At one end of the Park is a beautiful spillway at the edge of the lake. Overall if your looking for a Pennsylvania State Park away from it all, but great for families Chapman is a great choice.
